Elegant but easy seafood dinner recipe for Friday
surepip replied to surepip's topic in RECENT TOPICS
This recipe works well with Orange Roughy, Maui-Maui [remove the skin]. Salmon will do well also, but make sure you pull the little bones. Scallops go well also with the shrimp and fish. Some others: Flounder Pompano, but it is hard to find Grouper Snapper -
Not to rain on your parade,...... but just wait till they become teenagers!!! But there is light at the end of the tunnel. Eventually they grow up and MOVE OUT!

Cod is very mild, not fishy at all, and it picks up the flavors of the shrimp, asparagus, onion and mushrooms. -

Give me a break. Do your like to argue with the fence post just to hear yourself? I was using the example, totally farfetched and absurd; insinuating if we were to combine Paulding, Bartow, and Polk, and cut back services, would you want to be in the county who no longer had that service available at a courthouse no more than a half a day horse ride from your home?
-
In the more rural counties many do share service such as superior court, etc. with adjoining counties, and there are lots of "Tri-county" high schools. And some of the rural counties actually share the county/city administration jobs and expenses. Bottom line though is which counties are going to be willing to give up their autonomy and join up with the neighboring county for taxes, services, etc. Would you want to have to go to Cedartown or Cartersville to get your tag, etc. ? Same goes for the larger Metro areas. Even though there is tremendous overlapping of services, do you rea

We had a friend give us 30 or so small ears of corn Friday, so I grilled them Sunday, cut them off the cob, and am doing a corn chowder. I don't fry chicken anymore, too much clean up and mess, and we really like the 16 piece dark meat deal at Kroger [for $8]. So we have corn chowder, fried chicken, steamed teeny-tiny green beans, cole slaw, mashed taters, gravy [i freeze containers of gravy when I have fowl with enough pan drippings] and corn bread.

No, but depending on my time and schedule, I may start doing a Wednesday/Thursday p.com feature of some weekend meals based on what is on sale at the local grocery stores/meat markets with a shopping list and recipes. Think it would kindle any interest? We eat well here, but really quite inexpensively. Generally, the wine is the most expensive part of dinner. I get frozen cleaned calamari at the Buford Highway Farmers Market when coming home via I85, for a whopping $2 a pound. My dinner last night for 3 people cost $4.00 without the wine.

A nice chuck roast seared and stewing with onions, garlic, celery, carrots, garlic, tomatoes, garlic, potatoes, bay leaves, lots of paprika, and did I mention garlic ? Very easy to keep an eye on while we are tilling and planting the veggie beds. Last night I stir fried some marinated calamari rings with some onion and garlic in a super hot wok. Added a jar of vodka pasta sauce and some crushed red pepper, and if I do say so myself it was divine. Had a nice rose' to wash it down and some crunchy french bread with a feta cheese salad.

Proposal to place 4-H under Agriculture Dept.
surepip replied to NewsJunky's topic in Paulding County NEWS
Can't say about the 4-H program, but I see moving the college of Agriculture and the Extension department to the Ag Department as a potential problem. Plus, if they follow past moves like this, they won't fund it, and it will simply whither on the vine. Georgia's number ONE industry is still Agriculture. Plain and simple. Lockheed, Insurance, autoplants, banking, medicine, etc. all take a back seat to agriculture. Poultry is still more than 50% of the Agriculture GDP. But our Cooperative Extension Departments and Poultry Science School have been decimated by cuts over the past 8 ye -
The house smells wonderful. The aroma of corned beef is truly unique. We like corning our own not only to get it leaner, for easy carving and serving, but we also do it without any nitrate based preservatives. The color of the meat, and taste, is much richer than the industrial corned beef from stores. The Ruebens will come later in the week. Some day I am going to try making some Pastrami instead of corned beef. You smoke the brisket after the brine instead of boiling it to make Pastrami. Yes, the "Traditional" American St Patty's Day meal is corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and so

I see the airport as being a possible plus if and when we ever get any true A+ industrial development. It will not be the primary draw, but a plus. I have to disagree about the lack of interstate being a road block to industrial development. The Powder Springs Intermodal yard on 278 is for all practical purposes a deep water port. The containers coming off the trains there from Savannah, Charleston, Los Angeles, Oakland, etc. are hooked up to a Semi, and ALL of those bound for I75 North or North Alabama, North Mississipp or West Tennessee are coming right through Paulding now. Take a look

We do our own corned beef. I get briskets from the Hiram Kroger when they put them on sale. Trim off most of the fat on top, and between the 2 pieces of meat separating them. Brine, garlic, bay leaves, pickling spices, all spice, cloves and whole peppercorns. I stuff them down in a gallon jug, add the spices and seasonings, and cover with the brine. Stick them in the back of the garage refrigerator, and flip them over every so often. I did 4 last fall, and have been saving the last one for Wednesday. Pull the 2 pieces of meat out of the water, and put in a large kettle of s

Maybe they could do better with a required sticker fee on the cars of those who drive their kids to encourage all to use the buses ? Kind of like a parking permit on the windshield corner.

Beverley Cochran was Jerry Shearin's Assistant for most if not all of his 8 years in office. Having been a protege' to, and mentored by King Jerry for those many years, I would definitely have some difficulties supporting her in this election.

We have used the forums to find commercial members who we have indeed used, and we have done very well both with buying stuff seen on p.com and selling stuff we have listed on p.com. Applicance repair, lawn service, handyman asssistance around the house, Subby keeps the mower and other gas tools running. I have a big freezer, a side by side fridge, washer, dryer, large window/wall mounted AC, riding lawn mower, table saw, and grill, all purchased on p.com along with some other smaller stuff. Palm tree, other plants, shrubs, trees, bulbs, etc. Rattan furniture in the hot tub room

I have been watching this topic waiting for SOMEONE to chime in about STDs! We dodged this bullet, but saw many of our kid's friends and peers go down the teen pregnancy road. Daughter is 25, and is now married with an 18 month old. Son is 23, working on his masters, and single living at home. But we educated both of them about sex. We were showing them how to put condoms on bananas at 12 and 13, and no subject was taboo at our dinner table. We had many a discussion which would have sent hardened sailors heading for the exits. We knew they were at least educated about sex, pregnancy,

Literal translation does not provide an option, it is just translated saying it in a polite form. It means RESPOND, Please. There is no option. Kind of like ....Please be so kind as to respond to this invitation so we know you received it and we can plan for how many are coming.

Something I think of, and forget to post about...
surepip replied to wenfen's topic in RECENT TOPICS
In a nutshell, there was no planning at all. It just sort of "happened". Prestige Jewelry was the only think there before. They ought to consider 4 laning Rosedale, and closing all the cut-throughs and traffic lights along 278 from 92 to Metromount or even Cleburn Parkway, and basically turn the whole mess into a Mall like arrangement with only 2 or 3 entrances/exits. -

Percentage wise Yes, Healthcare Profit margins are single digit. But, when subtracting out the obscene pay packages, perks, and incentives, and then factoring in the billions spent on lobbying to keep the status quo, there is a huge amount of wasted overhead and profits. Plain and simply they need to be regulated out of the profit business. Pay off the stockholders and turn them into service providers who DON'T pay obscene pay packages, no lobbying fees, and cut loose the claim analysers who spend 40 hours a week, with additional bonues paid for finding loopholes to deny claims.
