  1. How soon we forget. Can you say repetitive school bond votes ?
  2. Ah, Leftovers. I roasted a super RARE half a Boneless Ribeye, about 7-8 pounds, which had been "curing" for the past week+. And I did a red wine reduction with it. Asparagus and twice baked potatoes. Garden salad with fresh arugula, endive, romaine, spinach, mesclun, bibb and oak leaf lettuce from the garden. Toasted crispy bagettes rubbed with garlic and olive oil with some parmesian. An Italian red from Tuscany. And I have about 5-6 pounds of interior RARE left after lunch today.
  3. Give it time. It is almost 3 months until the primary. I promise you will be tired of hearing all of the "info" come the latter part of July. Less than 24 hours remaining to qualify and we have a pitiful slate of candidates.
  4. As of this afternoon, East Paulding is in serious need of a Candidate for the District 19 Legislature Seat. Pitiful, absolutely pitiful.
  5. I take you don't know Paulette well......... And Stout is another philandering theocrat. Avery appears to be the class clown. Not much to choose from at this point, not much at all. Maybe an Independent will come along.
  6. Paulette Braddock has qualified Republican for the Legislature District 19 seat
  7. A Class A+ industrial park which can attract industry, light manufacturing and warehousing with some nice paying jobs.
  8. Right now I kind of like the Ray Boyd fellow. I think the Georgia GOP shot themselves in the foot by refusing him without signing their "Oath". He will have no problem getting on the ballot as an Independent, and that is going to siphon a lot of votes away from the other GOP candidates.
  9. Things are not looking good for stopping the oil slick from hitting Louisiana, and heading east towards the Florida panhandle. Oil Slick is growing I think I will be stocking up on Shrimp.
  10. I would like to see Dr Wehunt open back up, but for those of us with State Health Program, we have to declare our primary care physician and have Rx refills available when we need them. For now assuming I get along OK with Dr Gose, we will stay with him. At least he should outlive us and we won't have to train another one.
  11. I sure am glad we don't have any dogs left in this fight. We hit the Paulding School system as it grew, both kids got a reasonable education, and we finished up just as things were starting down. Now they seem to be spiraling downward. Son is trying to get into the MBA program at Ga State and we are holding our breathe on that. I feel for the educators. There are going to be thousands of them on the street come summertime.
  12. I have a nephew who works the rigs and he says they have top notch security. Drilling for oil is a dangerous business, and these deep water rigs add to the danger level, as well as additing tremendous costs to extracting the oil. I would hate to see the gulf coast take an oil slick hit from Louisiana to Florida. That would indeed be devastating. There were some other news stories today about the Navy planning to set the slick on fire to attempt to burn off most of it.
  13. Click on the baby chick in my signature. Says it all.....
  14. Liver functions, hunh ? MrsSurepip has been to Dr Gose at East Paulding Primary Care.....nothing like going to an internist who is young enough to be your child. So far she is happy. I have an appointment the 2nd week of May. Time will tell
  15. Unfortunately, Big Business has shown the populace over and over again, without Government regulations, they will sell their product or service, or whatever no matter what the consequences. Our original ROBBER BARONS when given the opportunity made monopolies of the railroads, coal business, electrical power, etc., and charged whatever they wanted with no rhyme or reason. Our great chemical manufacturers after WWII such as Dow, Monsanto, and the rest cranked out the DDTs, PCBs, Dioxins, et al; knowing there were terrible and horrific side effects, which they did their best to cover up
  16. I tracked ours, comparing the power bill to the previous year and it was less than $50 a month. Chemicals are $25 a year or less. We do not cover ours, but it is in a sort of greenhouse room and the moisture helps out the plants in the winter. We also have a return line for our HVAC system which we can open during thge winter when we want to add moisture to the house.
  17. I believe the initial "Grand Opening" was primarily a photo op for the local politicos, as well as King Jerry.
  18. For growing on the arbor above our upstairs deck where there is no roof, the wisteria grows thick enough in the summer to provide full shade, and keeps the deck dry unless it is a torrential downpour. We do a massive shaping/pruning in spring......some time the next 2 weeks. Then aother drastic clean up the end of August. That allows new growth still for blooms the next spring. In between I just do some snip-snip with hand clippers to get stray runners we don't want. What is on our upstairs deck roof is 2-1/2 stories tall.

    SPLOST

They have to use it to buy "stuff". They cannot pay operating expenses with it. P&R can buy new mowers, trucks, and other such equipment, in addition to property and buildings. Sheriff can buy electronics, autos, guns, vests, etc. DOT can buy right of ways, equipment, and such. They can use operating money to buy equipment, but they cannot use SPLOST funds to pay a salary.
  20. Wisteria is hard to beat. We maintain ours "drastically" twice a year. Now, and again in the fall. Occaisionally I will hand clip out some runners on the upstairs deck. The 2+ weeks it was in bloom this year was worth it. We had a Jasmine Arbor, with Carolina and Confederate growing from opposite ends. They had been there for years, and were killed back by that late freeze we had 2 years ago. They came back out of the ground, but we had to strip the arbor clean of the dead vines. Clematis generally, depending on the variety, does not get all that full, and it tends to be fragile.

    SPLOST

Seems no one realizes the tax shortfall which has been created by an 85% residential tax base. Industry and manufacturing use little to none of the infrastructure you have been discussing, but they pay a MUCH larger share of ad valorum and other taxes without taking in return. We are stuck with the tax base we have for years to come. Right now I know Parks and Rec has 4 fewer workers than they had 10 years ago. They can buy mowers, tractors, etc. as needed with SPLOST, but they cannot buy fuel or pay salaries. If we have a wet summer, the grass will get taller than we are used to deali
  22. The arugula bed has enough baby plants to thin......and make a nice bed of baby arugula leaves to use for my last tin of foie gras. We messed up last winter and did not get the bed of arugula covered when one of the nasty freezes hit....and we lost them. We have been waiting ever since to get enough arugula to eat our last foie gras. I will remove the foie gras from the can and put it on a plate in the freezer for 10-15 minutes. Then slice it into medallions and gently saute' in a non-stick skillet with some really nice quality olive oil. Prepare the arugula and a fresh crunchy bagette rig
  23. Hey Guys, sorry Melissa and I could not join y'all yesterday. But you would not have wanted to be around us. We were very blessed to have gotten to know David over all those years of playing ball. David set the standard to Little League coaches to follow. Learn how to play ball, have fun, and become good sportsmen. David was special in the way he passed these goals and standards on to the kids who were fortunate enough to spend time on his teams. I know IV benefited from his exposure to David and baseball, and we are grateful. We still miss you David......sorry you had to l
  24. To the "Drill baby Drill" Posse, the end justifies the means no matter what. Sure, pay $25 extra to extract a barrel of US crude, even if it totally screws up some of the most pristine beaches and estuaries in North America. No big deal. I guess they will just head to Lake Wylie instead of PC. I happen to like the fresh seafood, snapper, shrimp, oysters, and the beautiful waters off the Florida panhandle and the barrier islands from NE Florida to Maine. Sure would be a shame to destroy those waterways just do you can give Chavez the finger. But then again, these groups have been kn
