I loved it! Her facial expressions and quirks were hilarious. Any 88 year old that I know wouldn't remember a line or have a clue as what to do. I think she did super! Her in that blond wig trying to dance in the Hispanic skit was so funny!! Betty White is a class act.

1) Go to 4-day school weeks. Extend each of the 4 school days 1 hour. On the 5th day of "closed" school, provide some students remediation, and others classes such as dance, gymnastics, rocketry, karate, aerobics, etc. if parents would like to pay a fee. The classes would pay the instructor and make some spending money for the schools interested in providing services to students. Students don't have to come to school, but it could be open as needed. Teachers or other adults who pass background checks can be interviewed for their extracurricular activities. There have been successfu

I don't have a weather radio. Is there a website which refreshes and alarms the public of warnings in the area?? I could leave my puter on all night to get the warnings (or I'll be sleeping with one eye open all night).

This is exactly what many of us concluded today at school.

America's Most Wanted: Paulding resident is an All-Star candidate

Just a disclaimer...I don't know if this man is a resident of Paulding or not. I assumed he was and was thinking late last night that it could be that he's divorced and living elsewhere. Anyway, his daughter is a resident, and I'm sure she's been through quite a bit dealing with this. She's an awesome kid and student which proves more that he's an awesome father. So...I'm not sure where he lives. I'm just saying... -

Good idea about the bumps! If the rest of you vote, can you also mention it to bump the thread??? -
This courageous man, Lee Gragg, has been nominated for America's Most Wanted All-Star. Sgt. Gragg was severely injured back in September of 2009 while making a traffic stop. His injuries included a broken back, 17 broken bones in his face, loss of one of his eyes, and brain injury. He has made a recovery and is now back at work at the Palmetto Police Department. You can vote for him at Vote for Sgt. Lee Gragg of Paulding County. You can vote once a day until May 3 (per email address). He is a resident of Paulding County with children in our school system. Please vote!!

My hubby just said that 75/85 N will be closed due to road construction, there's a Hawks game, a Braves game, the Dogwood Festival, and then someone else posted above about another Sweetwater 420 Festival(?). When Freaknik was here before, it did its job to shut down Atlanta without the other goings-on. Man, I predict that I won't set foot inside 285 this weekend!

Ut oh....I don't like the sounds of this. We have AAA to take us on a 35 day trip this summer. I mainly joined because of their detailed triptiks to create maps for our trip. I've never had to use a service, but I hope that AAA will come to my aid if needed!

Hubby works outside. He turned on the A/C last week when it was too hot for him. I was glad he was the one who did it!

They will? I have DVDs of my digital pictures filed in a CD book. These won't last??

We went to PC a few years ago. After some camping problems, we learned we had to find a hotel or condo. After checking out a couple of places, we went to the Holiday Inn. It's a reputable place right?? The manager of the Holiday Inn picked me out of a group of loud crazy kids. The music was blaring and people were all over the lobby. He walked over to me and explained that the Holiday Inn wasn't the place for me to stay. He said that they babysit teenagers during spring break. Lots of parents rent the rooms for their teens, drop them off, and head to a more luxurious hotel down the

We pay $119/month on cable with all of the movie channels. The price of Directv looks promising. Is it true that it "always" goes out? We're just wanting to save a buck or two. DIRECTV packages and prices These prices are good for 12 months. After that, does the cost go up to Comcast's cost?

Thanks for your openness and honesty with this!! I'm just curious about your feelings.

This is very interesting! I did lots of research on different school calendars for my Ed. S. I was looking for the "perfect" calendar which increases student achievement. Four day work weeks only do two major things, they save school systems money and increase both teacher and student attendance. Student achievement doesn't improve....UNLESS..... ...UNLESS...the 5th day is used for remediation or acceleration. Students who aren't "meeting standards" are required to get extra help at school. Can you imagine? Students might take responsibility of their learning in order to have the

Come on over to teaching! We need good teachers.

Yes, it's the proposal. I read another article in the AJC from last week that sounded more definite, although it still was a proposal. It specifically stated Hawaii and Texas as not buying in. I can't find that article though. Interesting that it's now gone. I'm glad someone else is worried about this happening. How can the wealthy NJ public schools teach the same as the English as a Second Language schools of Southern California?? It really won't work! And where does Paulding come into play in between the two extremes??

Here's the article about adopting National Standards. I do not welcome it. I see how much discussion we have about Paulding decisions in education. Is the federal gov't really going to make the best decisions for Paulding County? Our country is becoming more and more cookie cutter-ish. Bah humbug! National Standards - AJC article 3/10/10

The books issue is a crazy one. I agree with you all that we need books, but... When GA changed over to standards, there wasn't a textbook to match what was being taught. Teachers rarely use books in the classroom, they pull from other sources. To purchase books to use less than half of the time would seem to be a waste of money. I thought more books would be available by now for purchase which match GA's standards, but... Now Obama has a stimulus package for all governors who agree to go with the "National Standards". All states but Hawaii and Texas have agreed to the change. So

It's all so sad. Education has come a long way. I've seen great improvements with our youth. Don't get me wrong, I'm by no means saying things are perfect. I just know that in my 15+ years of teaching, we've come a long way, baby! Now we have a depression recession. After the stimulus money runs out, many governmental agencies are going to be in a lurch. Education is going to suffer tremendously. We've got to take care of those doing their jobs. Let the ones go who can't hack things, but make sure the hard-working Paulding BOE employees keep their jobs if they're doing them.
