  1. ...and miss the 2010 RV show on HGTV??? No way!!!
  2. I've never heard of that! Pretty cool to know that you've seen such a rare bird for GA!!
  3. I answered yes, and here's my response: (my spelling is horrible) Respondez s'il vous plait (Respond, if you please)
  4. I thought tufted too, but I've never seen them hang together. I also don't think the the yellow stripe at the end of the tail is a tufted. It's my guess that the birds are just passing through for the winter.
  5. My hubby works in East Cobb and said they had lots more snow than we do. I'm crossing my fingers that we don't miss another day. I'm like a kid when it comes to potential snow days, watching the weather, tossing and turning all night, and waking early to see the scrolling cancellations. We have had the craziest of crazy school years (flood days, snow days, furlough days, etc. etc.). I'm ready for a solid routine! I've got some teachin' to do! Any change in the typical day wreaks havoc on us teachers! (please don't bash me)
  6. In my opinion, for whatever it's worth.... if the P.O. isn't open on Saturdays, then it needs to have one late night a week. If I ever need to go to the P.O. it has to be a Saturday due to work. It seems like it's easier to have, for example, the P.O. open until 8pm on Tuesday nights. I voted "other".
  7. I'm so confused! I never have liked Vienna, but his parents accept her. I thought the sis-in-laws were going to kill her, but they turned around their opinion totally!!! I just have a feeling it's her....mixed emotions totally- (thanks for not announcing the spoilers)
  8. Yes, I'm a sucker to watch it. Thanks for the info-
  9. What shocked me was a student telling me last fall that each member of their rec football team had to down an energy drink before a game. I immediately wondered how many parents knew their child was being told to drink one. It really bothered me, thinking that a child might reason that if it was acceptable to the football coach, it must be safe and okay. I agree it's a drug, and I don't think my children have had one (who knows though), but I also don't think it's my business to tell another parent what they should do. By the way, do you think all of those football parents were oka
  10. I couldn't believe all of the geese we saw today! There were 7 Vs, one right after another, but each at different altitudes. It was totally incredible. We were on the intersections of 120 and 278 when we saw them all, but had to drive on. I can't imagine how many more would've appeared if we didn't have to drive away. How crazy! (Thanks for opening this topic). I even had to look up geese and the V formation to learn more about their flights. Very interesting! Scientists have determined that the V-shaped formation that geese use when migrating serves two important purposes:
  11. Exactly...thank goodness there's rumor that NCLB is going away! Education Reform: Obama budget reboots NCLB
  12. I think we need to mention that there are plenty of wonderful parents out there who are working with teachers to raise these children right. I also believe that many parents' hands are tied because of lack of textbooks to use as references to the lessons taught. There are always going to be glitches in education, and I believe parents could help teachers more with supporting textbooks (yes, I know there's no "perfect" textbook, but there are some that would help.....which is better than none at all). There is so much pressure being put on teachers to make sure that schools look "g
  13. My thoughts are: If teachers or administrators are going to change test answers to make their schools look good, then they might change test answers to make each look like a better teacher. Will the scores be accurate enough? My answer: NO! I'm even worried that some honest good teachers might become dishonest cheating workers out for a quick pay raise. For the record, I would NEVER consider doing anything like this...it's against all that I believe in....I'm just saying, if admin will do it, I'll bet there are some bad teachers that would.
  14. From the AJC article: Statewide, more than half of elementary and middle schools had at least one classroom where erasure marks were so unusual that cheating may have occurred, the analysis shows. State and local officials will take follow-up steps in the 20 percent of schools with the most classrooms in question. I think it's more than one school system.
  15. OH MY GOSH!!! Let's not even begin to discuss Merit Pay...will 20% of GA teachers get the wrong pay????? Good grief...what's happening to our schools?
  16. You're right, that's a huge problem. I hope that we'll keep getting better, so that situations like that do not happen. Right now the high schools are changing to GA's new standards, and while there are kinks to work out and all's not perfect, it's a step in the right direction. I think with the community support of making education a priority of our youth, we'll reach the goals we've made. I love to see how much you care, even if we do disagree on some topics.
  17. But have you noticed where the middle schools compare? Could it be that students start out low when compared to others in the state, then gradually start to make gains? I wonder why elementary students don't do as well. Could it be that there are less college educated parents in our county than others? There are many factors to consider. I'm just playing the devil's advocate. I appreciate your opinions on education. It gives me some other viewpoints to consider. Oh, and yes, I do have to pat myself on the back about education. After 3 degrees and over 15 years of experience,
  18. For your argument about Georgia performing as one of the worst states in the country, please read this article. It explains how misleading these facts are. GA Ranks Near Bottom in SAT scores
  19. I'm sorry if I offended you. There are exceptions to every rule. You obviously got more out of your summers, but it could be because there was no cable, internet, game systems or other distractions from using one's imagination, creating games, and entertaining oneself with nature and life experiences. Our children just grow too fast. After spending 6 months of research on school calendars for my Ed. S. I think I know what the data shows. These are OUR children, you're right. I could care less about how summers are. Actually, I love spending them with my 2 children at home. But bei
  20. Honestly, I could care less one way or another. I didn't vote. Here are the facts: 1) Children of lower economic status have losses in math and reading over the summer. If we honestly want all students to succeed, we need more of a year-round-school mentality. Children of higher economic status make gains over the summer. They traditionally are involved in summer camps, summer reading programs, field trips to museums, etc. 2) I'm POed that someone besides our government is trying to make decisions for our children. The tourist industry came down hard in NC and demanded that
  21. Thanks everyone for your replies. I can't believe the number of people who have had a problem afterwards. Yuck! I hope I'm not in the 4%, like lots of you. More of you responded than I thought. I guess it's more common than I once believed. Keep your opinions coming!
  22. My doctor has suggested that I have the Thermachoice procedure in a couple of months. We first were looking at Novasure, but for some reason another doctor recommended Thermachoice. What was your success rate? Do you recommend it? Any information to make me more prepared is greatly appreciated!!
  23. It just landed...I don't know anything else.
