  1. Thanks for the link. The source appears to be a bipartisan think tank. Even so, I tend to agree with the "scare tactic" theory. Both sides of the aisle love nothing more than to scare little old ladies into continuing to vote for them. Regardless, all these fiscal shenanigans are getting tiresome. I wish we had real leaders in Washington instead of crybaby fear-mongers.
  2. Source, please? A "paper" saying checks "may" be delayed is hardly credible. I know several SSA employees and if this were true, they would have heard this before anyone.
  3. Although I would love to help, our living situation does not permit it at this time. My husband has a couple coworkers in Paulding, he is going to ask them tomorrow.
  4. When I hit reply on my Kindle Fire HD it always takes me to the top of the thread and I have to scroll all the way back down before I can start typing. Other than that I don't have any problems.
  5. Pork roast Mashed potatoes Corn and lots of sangria... (edited because apparently lots of sangria and typing on a tablet don't mix)
  6. I have friends in Inman Park and in Grant Park that really love both places.
  7. I can't find the story at the moment but a blogger retaliated by publishing the names and addresses of all the writers, editors, etc. responsible for publishing that news story. Love it!
  8. Whether or not the law is strictly adhered to is not as important as the fact that it's on the books and a fairly recent law. It gives potential criminals pause to think before committing a crime, similar to what I said in another thread about crazed gunmen usually choosing unarmed groups of people malls and schools to attack rather than taking their chances with people who may or may not be armed.
  9. Thanks, maybe we'll give it a try. It's hard to find a seafood place around here that doesn't deep fry 90% of the menu items.
  10. Is it decent food or mostly deep fried?
  11. If there were a forum like this in Newtown Connecticut, someone like you may have posted the same response two weeks ago. They can't now. Think about it.
  12. J'smom, the more likely scenario is the crazed gunman won't bother going to the school at all, knowing some of the teachers and admins may be armed. If you'll notice, they usually choose places full of unarmed sheep like schools and malls with a "no gun" policy.
  13. That's a very sad story but you' re right, government regulations won't prevent it from happening again. The lady in the story had a back up assistance doohickey on her car already. In fact perhaps if she had used her own instinct and common sense rather than rely on some alarm that may or may not sound, it may not have happened. And as the article stated, just because people have a back-up camera system doesn't mean they'll use it.
  14. Agreed! Best lights we've ever seen.
  15. I think the public displays of respect do nothing except make the people observing them feel good about themselves . How does it help the grieving families at all? Merely saying you are observing a moment of silence (or saying that you are praying) doesn' t make it so and only serves to pump up your own ego or perhaps feed your insecurities. If you truly want to be silent and send positive energy or pray, you don' t need some third party to arbitrarily assign a time for you to do this. Do it when it feels right to you, then keep it to yourself. Anything else is pompous and self- serving.
  16. But if you get rid of much of the insane over-regulation of the industry (the government) as well as ridiculous overhead and administrative costs (private), healthcare costs will decrease DRAMATICALLY. You can't put MORE government or MORE administration into the system because all that does is cost money. It doesn't save lives or help poor people or anything it promises to do. It puts in more red tape and eats up more tax dollars and sucks the life out of all good tax-paying Americans. Now, if that's their goal... I guess they will be successful. But I'd rather die of natural causes, thank yo
  17. I drive on the government-maintained roads, yes. And no doubt they would be better maintained if controlled by private entities. Or perhaps not, but nobody has ever been given a chance to prove it. You can't possibly drive anywhere in metro Atlanta and declare the roadways just peachy, so your argument is ineffective. Same with utilities. Internet? Do you really think the government is responsible for the explosive growth and innovation of all that is online? Hardly. It was done in spite of the govt, and new regulations on the horizon will only hinder further innovation, as it always does. Ato
  18. I have followed this thread with interest. Dumbestgirlintheworld, first let me say how sorry I am your sister-in-law is going through this. Insurance issues aside, it's sad to see a loved one suffering. I have been thinking lately, perhaps one reason people in the US are so against socialized medicine is not because things are hunky dory here, but because we as a nation have a completely different mindset from the UK and Europe. We are fiercely independent, at least as a whole, and to be completely dependent on the government for something so important as our healthcare just raises our hac
  19. Hope you like your tablet! I'm getting my first tablet tomorrow (Kindle Fire HD). I went with wireless only, so I won't have an extra monthly charge. I have been coveting an iPad for a long time now but Amazon had a deal on the Fire HD that I just couldn't pass up. I have 2 other Kindle products that I love so I think I will be very satisfied with my new tablet. Can't wait! And thanks to whomever mentioned cellphone tethering, or whatever it was called. I will have to look into that.
  20. Yeah, I worked at a cat-only vet clinic and sort of got caught up in the moment a few too many times. Now we're down to the Final Four, and no plans to add any more. :-) Well, one would hope common sense would rule, as well as good taste, lol. :-) But seriously, if being blunt helps people remember to wash their hands, then it works.
  21. I've been there many times, but never sat at Orchestra level because I just like being a little further back. The seats are all pretty good though; they are all slanted enough to see even if you are in the back row. The balcony seats in the back are REALLY high and steep, but the view is still excellent (though further away). I guess it also depends on what you are going to see. If it's an opera, the supertitles are very easy to see from the balcony and probably the mezzanine, not sure about orchestra (though again, I've never had those seats so can't say for sure). Have fun! Remember
  22. As long as you wash your hands after scooping (and don't eat the contents of the litterbox), there isn't much risk of contracting toxo. When I got pregnant the first time, I had been working at a vet clinic, not only in the office but often scooping and cleaning litterboxes, six days a week for 3-4 years. I also had 13 cats at home. The OB tested me for toxo assuming I would be positive, and the results showed no recent exposure nor any long-term exposure. I have always been fastidious about washing my hands, and wearing gloves at work. As long as you use common sense and clean up, you ca
  23. Thanks for the heads up! I need to bring my stocking stuffers for the troops and I'm glad I found out they close at 1pm. Sounds like a great event!
