  1. S&DN, I know you're not being argumentative, I usually respect your opinions and I appreciate the discussion. I can't claim to be completely chemical free, I just try to limit putting unknown things into my body. Yes, that does include meds. I rarely take anything other than ibuprofen, and that only if completely necessary. Hence my use of the word "arbitrarily". As for tattoos, you got me there. Never really thought about it before. But if tattoos were suddenly only available through the govt, I would never again get one, my distrust of them is so great. I figure it's better
  2. No kidding. Especially when they're tasked by the administration with projects like "Research the causes of mass shootings". I guess mass shootings are now classified as a disease? As for the flu shot, never for me or my family. I don't arbitrarily put foreign chemicals into my body at all if I can help it, and definitely not at the insistence of the federal government.
  3. I have no problem with private entities discriminating against smokers, be those entities insurance companies, employers, restaurants, etc. I don't blame them, because smokers cost everyone more money. Where I have a problem is the federal government imposing those types of restrictions in any form. This is one of the core reasons Obamacare or socialized medicine is morally wrong. The government should NEVER be in the position of dictating people's personal choices, even the bad ones, and by lording over their health insurance they are doing just that.
  4. No, I don't want mine to use it. And if course I don't use it either. I am weird about certain words and that's one of them. Don't like the alternate word for urinate either. Or shut up, or stupid, or hate. But I'll let loose with a flying f-word occasionally, as well as a few other standard swear words. Go figure.
  5. Exactly. I always think it's funny when people think businesses shouldn't think too much about profit. Why else would someone start a business, anyway? I suspect they would be pretty upset if their own bosses stopped trying to make a profit, as they would soon become unemployed.
  6. Exactly. Symbols don't have inherent meanings, they develop meanings over time and repeated use. For example, public schools are a symbol of the dumbassification of our country.
  7. Just as a point of friendly debate, how do you model responsible drinking if your kids are never exposed to drinking at all? Because eventually, they WILL be exposed to drinking. Would you rather their first exposure be at a college frat party, or in the relative safety of your presence, be it at home or a local establishment?
  8. I don't typically drink at skating rinks, but after reading through this thread, it's nice to know there's a place I can take the family and not have to worry about holier-than-thou Christian do-gooders hanging around to tell me what I should and shouldn't be doing. Thanks, GG!
  9. Are you asking about homeschooling or online virtual schools? They are completely different things. Anyway, at age 17 he's almost finished anyway, isn't he?
  10. Great post! Many people (here and elsewhere) could learn a lot from you. (by the way, can I get an invite to one of your parties? lol)
  11. Not true. The ages of compulsory education in Georgia are still 6-16. There is no reason to send kids to "pre- k" or even kindergarten unless you really want to for whatever reason.
  12. Climate change has been happening on Earth for billions of years. It boggles my mind how some people can be so arrogant as to think they as humans are responsible for causing or "fixing" it. Nothing but another excuse to raise taxes and control the masses.
  13. Wait, so the university knew about the deception on December 26, yet on the day of the BCS game the announcers were still talking about his great loss, and even interviewing him about it? Obviously something is screwy. Even if he weren't complicit in the hoax, why in the world would he still talk on national tv about his dead girlfriend as if she were actually real?
  14. You're right, my bad. I DO feel a bit insecure and fearful with the insane amount of LIBERALS in this country voting for the LIBERAL democrats that are trying their damndest to take away as many freedoms as they possibly can. I guess I need to work on that pesky sense of wanting to keep what is mine and wanting to be left alone to just live my life. Silly me, when there are so many LIBERALS out there who want to tell me they know better.
  15. Try High Country Stables in Dallas. They have a website.
  16. I realize that, which is why I said "I could be wrong", I was just basing it on her language and general disdain for anything American. I guess that describes most liberals, come to think of it. lol
  17. Nitro, I'm new here so I could be wrong, but based on her comments in other posts I think former member is British and maybe even still lives there, so of course her view of our Revolution and its founders is skewed.
  18. Depends on your car. My car's manufacturer recommends at least 91octane and no more than 10% ethanol, so I use premium. QT usually meets my car's requirements, as do the pricier stations like Shell, BP, etc. Using the correct type of gas for your car's engine is more important than saving money. edited to add: I don't think "octane" is the right word. It's the number on the front of the pump associated with the grade you choose.
  19. Okay, I admit I am not listening to our Dear Ruler speak (just had lunch and don't want to lose it), but I am trying to keep up with his speech by reading news stories. One of the proposals (directives?) is to enforce background checks on private gun sales. Say what? If I want to sell a spare shotgun to my neighbor, I have to go through the expense and trouble and intrusiveness of performing a background check? And if I don't, who the hell is going to know? God these people are ridiculous.
  20. Exactly! They screw up everything and everybody knows that, so why anyone would want to give them MORE authority and MORE of our private info, is beyond my comprehension. And as somebody above said, do you REALLY think criminals, or people with criminals in their household, will comply with any of it?
  21. I agree completely!!! Except, substitute the word "bigotry" for homosexuality, and substitute the term "being a close-minded a-hole" for visiting a prostitute. Other than that you're spot-on.
  22. Six months, same time I took away the bottle.
  23. Exactly! I'm from Chicago and I think it's illegal there to put ketchup on a hot dog (or it should be). I won't even let my kids do it. A true Chicago dog includes mustard, relish, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickle, peppers, celery salt, and sometimes cheese. Yum! As for burgers, I am okay with mustard. In fact I had it on my burger last night, along with lettuce and tomato.
  24. I have to agree with you. Again, not trying to insult teachers or even administrators, but the entire public education system is broken, dysfunctional, and toxic. I can't help but think as I see the kind-hearted and well-meaning posts here in this thread that we are doing nothing but enabling a broken system, kind of like continuing to buy an alcoholic a drink.
  25. Did you get somebody? My husband's coworker is in the wrong school district and can't help out.
