  1. Do you have any idea how big an airport would have to be to handle a million passengers a day? There's no way it would happen in PC.
  2. I think the aptitude tests could be very beneficial. It would give students more things to think about becoming as they get older.
  3. Where in the heck do you get they want to compete with Hartsfield-Jackson and the city of Atlanta because they want limited commercial flights? That's a very ludicrous assumption on your part.
  4. From what I took away from the article, the 8th grade student selects their pathway and then writes their graduation plan. This comes across as selecting a major, but unlike college they cannot change it. It can be modified somewhat in the 9th grade, but after that it becomes very difficult to change. I think it would be interesting to give students an aptitude test during the 8th grade that would indicate what areas they may be well suited for. I also think it would be a good idea to give it again while they are in the 10th grade.
  5. What do you mean men have a wider choice when looking for a mate?
  6. How many 8th graders are actually mature enough to make a decision on what they want to be when they grow up? I changed my mind quite often at that age and even through high school. Under this tract system, they will find it very difficult to change after they start the 9th grade. That's just not right. I looked at the Law and Justice pathway. Unless any of the teachers have been trained criminal investigators and/or forensic examiners, they are not qualified to teach these classes. Would you feel a PE teacher who never took a calculus class teach qualified to teach calculus?
  7. What about narcissistic women? I've met a lot of them.
  8. Your assessment is correct on minimum wage jobs. They are a starting point and transitional. They are jobs that require no skills whatsoever. Most people who take these jobs have an education no higher than high school, have had no previous jobs where they developed skills that would pay them more elsewhere. Here's what we're going to see from the Left during the 2014 elections - a big push to raise the minimum wage substantially. Why? Because it will serve as a diversion from the failures of ObamaCare.
  9. Here's a list of the career pathways students will choose from: Agriculture Architecture, Construction, Communications & Transportation Business & Computer Science Culinary Arts Education Engineering and Technology Family and Consumer Sciences Government and Public Safety Healthcare Science Marketing, Sales & Services If you go to the website, you can click on the pathways and get descriptions of them. As I said before, who will teach these classes in high school? Take a look at government and public safety.
  10. Just a couple of weeks ago, I said there would be changes to HOPE. This article from the Augusta Chronicle reveals what those changes are. Eighth graders are going to be required to one of 17 career tracks and make a graduation plan based upon that. They can make minor changes to that plan during the 9th grade, but not really after that. I personally think this is a stupid because not many 8th graders really know what they want to for a living at that age. I initially heard about these changes yesterday on the radio, which listed the 17 career tracks students could choose from. One
  11. I think most quarterbacks in the NFL would have looked like rookies if they had the Falcons offensive line.
  12. I don't think it was a publicity stunt. I think the underestimated the reaction of the show's audience and others who are just sick and tired of all this political correctness stuff.
  13. I suggest you call USAA and let them know what happened. I've been with USAA a long time and I bet they would appreciate knowing your experience.
  14. They reduce the COLA for military retirees, but federal employees get a raise.
  15. Of course I was kidding. I wasn't born yet when Groucho had his TV show though. There was a UHF channel that used to show reruns of the Jack Benny show in the afternoon while I was in the 1st grade.
  16. My wife has been experiencing itching in her left eye for the last two days. She says it almost feels like it's on fire. I think it's mold spores from the leaves.
  17. More jobs in a county ALWAYS brings higher taxes you say? Bullcheeze. Tax revenues will increase with economic growth for sure because more people have jobs, more people buy or build homes, industry creates more collected tax revenues, etc. Property taxes go up when home values go up. Property taxes also decrease when values drop. We've seen both happen in this county. Property taxes also go up when commissioners raise millage rates. What you're trying to do is create a fear in people that their taxes will go up because economic growth.
  18. Show me a community with an airport that has commercial flights, but doesn't have any industry.
  19. What the heck makes you think it's "pipe dreams?" Do you have any business model that backs it up? What airline do these pilots you refer to work for?
  20. Limited commercial flights into Paulding's airport will be good for economic growth within the county, regardless of what those to you opposed to it believe. One thing I've come to learn during my adult life is people want good paying jobs within their community, but when push comes to shove many of them will oppose them when it comes to building factories, prisons, or anything else they believe will cause them "inconveniences."
  21. I thought most country songs were about a guy coming home to find his wife had left him for another guy and his dog no longer likes him.
