  1. This is just a hunch but I wonder if it was Wesley Johnson. The timing would be about right. I think his son's name was Wes also and he, the son, later ran the business for a while. Don't know if he's still around or not.
  2. I just noticed today a building permit posted over the for sale sign at the place where Mr. Tildon Gray's old house was torn down recently, next to Buddy's. Anybody know what's coming there?
  3. I eat poke sallet (polk greens, if you prefer) every spring straight up like turnip greens or scrambled with eggs, and Lambs Quarter is great in quiches. Does anybody know if Ramps grow around here and can morel mushrooms (Hickory Chicken as my Kentucky friends call them) be found anywhere nearby?
  4. I don't know anything about the little sets that hang over one ear, but if you really want to hear well Best Buy has a set of stereo bluetooth headphones that are excellent. I got some for listening to music from my phone, but calls are great. Since you're hearing in both ears it's like talking to someone right there and you can turn them up as loud as you need. They have a mic built in and you can make and receive calls without even touching your phone. They're not something you would probably walk around wearing in public but for working around the house or garden they can't be beat. My link
  5. I get whole raw milk at Carlton Farms just this side of Rockmart. Going 278 turn right at the first light where Walmart is, go past the high school and the farm is on the right about 1/4 mile past the school. Go up the driveway past the house until you get to a big round silo. There's a door to a little store on the left of the silo where they keep the milk, eggs, sometimes cheese, and a few other things. If no one is there, it's honor system. Put your name and the items you got on a notepad on the counter and drop your money through a pull down slot in the big black safe. The milk is $6.00 a
  6. Yes, hard cheeses are what I'd especially like to make but mine have been coming out very hard, almost parmesan like. I first tried buttermilk and yogert as starter cultures and then ordered some cultures and rennet online, but I'm still not getting exactly what I want. I had a friend send me some Junket rennet tablets from New Mexico (you can't find them here anywhere) but had bad results with them. Liquid rennet that I ordered seems to be working better but I think my problem is that the curd is not firming up enough before cutting and stirring. Mine just seems to stay too soft and slimey-li
  7. I ordered some online because I couldn't find it locally but I've also seen it in the last few weeks at Ingles in the canning section just like surepip said. I was suprised because I had looked all over for it before ordering. On a side note - how many people here are into cheesemaking and might be interested in forming a group to share recipes and techniques. I just started trying it a few months ago after finding a nearby source for raw milk and have had some very interesting results. I've come up with several things that look sort of like cheese and even taste something like cheese after ag
  8. Aren't you glad that our legislature has seen fit to protect us Georgians from buying, posessing, or using any fireworks that go "BOOM", so I'm sure that that is not what I'm hearing all around me tonight? I'm really glad to know that my tax dollars have been used to make sure that I or my neighbors are not going to injure our stupid selves by having any kind of fireworks that do more than send up sparkles, and that it's against the law to bring any explosive-type fireworks into the state. I had M-80s and Cherry Bombs when I was a kid and guess what, I still have all of my fingers and toes bec
  9. Sorry, no, maybe next year if somebody would just tell me how much it costs and if it's the same price as for a church.
  10. These signs are not the cheap little signs, they're the vertical banner types that are 5 or 6 feet tall where the poles arch over the top to hold the flag outright, like you see in front of RaceTrack and Quicktrip. There are four of them at the entrance to the school. For some reason I really hate the look of these things. Like I said they look like something that should be in front of a used car lot.
  11. Thank you, finally somebody got it! That's exactly what I was trying to get across, and for folks to think about where it could lead.
  12. I hope y'all realize that I'm not serious about this. Just trying to stir up a little trouble and discussion. I am serious about the signs however, since I think there's a limitation about how long a sign may be displayed before and after a use of this sort, that's not getting enforced.
  13. Obviously you didn't understand what I was saying. I most certainly DID pay for the facilitites (sic) with MY tax money, but how much would I have to PAY to use them for something other than a church?
  14. This was discussed several years ago, but here we go again. I've noticed a bunch of tacky, used-car-lot-looking signs at Nebo Elementary School that have been there for several days, advertising that "Edge Point Church" is coming soon. Lord knows we need more churches in this county (sorry for the pun)! On the approximately 9 miles of Hwy 61 South from 278 to New Georgia, I can count no less than 10 churches, and if you take the 5 miles down Hiram-Sudie Rd. there's 6 churches between Hwy 61 and Hwy 92. There's a church almost every mile in Paulding County and yet we rent out our school buildin
  15. Anybody know anything about this from well over a year ago? Wanted Fugitive: Gary Thomas Chastain Jr; W/M; 5'8; 225 lbs; short brown hair; green eyes. Poss traveling on bicycle. (Paulding County, GA) Gary Thomas Chastain Jr. is wanted in connection with the alleged rape of a 13 year old female that occurred Friday, April 2, 2010 in Paulding County. The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Crimes against Children (CAC) unit received the report of the allegations on Friday of the incident that had occurred earlier that day. Detectives explained that the suspect did live in the home with
  16. Can somebody please tell me WHO, and WHERE, and ON WHAT gets voted on tomorrow? I've seen signs in Hiram about alcohol sales but I've looked on the county website and the Georgia Secretary of State website and all I can find is "Sample ballot not available". Is the voting only for Dallas and Hiram, and are only persons living within the actual city limits allowed to vote? Sorry to sound ignorant but I don't know what it's about.
  17. Bolen's Antiques (hope I spelled that right)in Buchannan will have everything you need. If you're connecting to an existing masonary chimney where a stove has been before, you may just need single wall black pipe. If you're going all of the way from the stove through the roof, then you need triple walled pipe from the ceiling up through the attic and through the roof to a cap on top. As Guard dad said there is a formula for how high the cap needs to extend above the nearest peak on your roof, and there's a special box type fitting that you install on the ceiling. Single wall pipe from the stov
  18. Look at the post "attic tv antenna no dish or cable" from a few days ago. I think it's on page 3 right now. I'll try to bump it back to the top. Bump worked, it's back to this page now.
  19. Not exactly sure what you're asking here. All antennas have to have a wire from the antenna to the TV. That's the type of cable I was referring to. If you mean "Cable" as in Comcast or another cable company, then no you don't have to have that. The antenna picks up free TV from the air.
  20. I wonder about the solar powered signs at the bridge. I'll bet those things are not cheap, and are they owned by the State or are they RENTED? If it's going to take two years to get the bridge finished wouldn't it be more economical to put up a wood sign or something? Our taxes at work.
  21. True cut-to-channel yagis are designed for one channel only and are very expensive. You'd need one for each channel you want to receive, so you'll end up with a bunch of antennas on the mast oriented in different directions, all feeding into signal combiners to end up with one cable going to your tv. But yeah, you won't need a rotor.
  22. I've posted this several times before, but here goes again. Go to www.mcmelectronics.com and look at part number 30-2155. It's the best deal on an antenna you'll find anywhere. They are usually only $20 but sometimes they have them on sale for about $15 and no tax. 'Course you have to pay shipping, but it's usually less than $10. It's high-gain modified yagi and very directional so you might consider a rotor depending on your location. I have three of them installed without rotors and get about 60 channels perfectly. (It was easier and cheaper for me to just install another one rather than run
  23. Thanks for clearing things up a bit. I wasn't trying to be critical or place any blame. I just wanted to point out something that COULD have been happening in a situation like this, and be happening without someone even recognizing it. Glad to hear that you would know if that were the case. Best of luck to you and your son.
  24. You're absolutely right, these are not things to be resolved here, but rather than see all these "Oh, you poor mother" and "I understand what you're going through" and "he needs medication" I feel only right to point out that there may be another side to this story. I agree 100% with counseling but I'm trying to point out that it may not be just the kid who needs the service. I've been there, done that, and know others who've been there too. If it's a possibility it shoulden't be covered up. The kid is the one who will end up paying the price either way.
