  1. I got a call from "EMERGENCY COMM" on my caller ID a little while ago apparently about a missing child, but it went so fast and I was so confused about exactly what this was, that I really didn't get much of the information. I then got on Pcom and found a post about it but the only reply was "See other mega-thread.". What does this mean? What is a mega-thread? The topic was locked so I couldn't find out anymore about it whithout starting this new topic. Is this something new going on in the county, and when did it start, and if I don't understand it where can I get more information, and etc.,
  2. I got to thinking about it tonight, and I think that I realized that I think to myself a lot, but sometimes I catch myself actually talking to myself, usually just whispering to myself, but it always seems to be something that I'm really interested in, I think. Who else thinks that they think to, or talk to themselves, and when you do, what do you have to say to yourself?
  3. Take a look at mcmelectronics.com model AV923. It's actually an outdoor antenna but could be put in a attic. They're only $20.00 regularly and sometimes can be found even cheaper when they have sales. This is an incredible, high gain antenna for the price. You have to put it together, but it's not extremely complicated. I pick up over 50 channels from Atlanta for free. You can get all of the networks and many others (you might not care for all of them since there are many advertising channels, sales channels, some audio only channels from radio stations, religious channels, Spanish channels, e
  4. Much better. Thanks. Now let's see if anybody else can figure out what this was all about.
  5. Apparently that's what the problem was (something I was not aware of), but the sheriff's edit to my topic was very confusing.
  6. That's exactly why I would never set up automatic payments, and actually I do use my bank's bill pay service myself, but like I said, I just wanted to bitch about GreyStone. I view it as them trying to get every extra penny out of us that they can. I love this!
  7. I just received an email from GreyStone about the new "Customer Care and Billing System" which goes into effect on April 4th. One of the new features outlined in this message was "E-check and debit/credit card convenience fees will be $3.50 for residential members". $3.50 for the convenience of paying your bill online!!! This is ridiculous. In the past they had an even higher fee for debit/credit card payments but at least they only charged $0.60 cents for using e-check (I could reluctantly swallow that amount, and that's what I've used for years). Their excuse is that they use a third party c
  8. I'm in no way excusing the actions of the pigs in our county that dump their litter all over the place (the street I live on looks like a garbage heap) but the discussion does bring up a sore spot with me. Anybody remember when our county had "convenience centers" with dumpsters where you could take your refuse and discard it for free, like some of our neighboring counties still have? Now we have to pay some private sanitation company's steadly increasing monthly rates to have them pick up our trash. The last time I checked, our county landfill was charging an outrageous minimum price to disp
  9. Listened to your link and I thought Marvin's rendition was great, and he felt the song, but he didn't sing "yester--da--aa--ee--ah--uh--oo--ee--ay", like I'm talking about. I'm sure you know what I mean.
  10. Being in the music business, I'd just like to get your opinions of what seems to be happening with vocal performers these days. You see it all the time on "American Idol", "America's Got Talent" and many, many other performances, where singers try to embellish a performance with vocal runs and extra notes and such. Personally, when I hear it, I perceive it as an expression of ego; "Look at me, I don't really care about how the music was written, but look at what I can do with my voice!". And it doesn't really matter how perfectly they do it, I just take it the wrong way. I feel that music s
  11. Did you know that you can get a lot of the old shows like "Leave It To Beaver", "Alfred Hitchcock", "Robin Hood" and others on 'Retro TV' for free with an antenna instead of (or in addition to) cable or satellite. It's on digital channel 2-2. There are around 60 digital channels that you can pick up in this area for free with just an antenna. I for one, have dumped satellite for a while and am pretty satisfied with what I can get off the air. Add streaming video from the internet with a connected BluRay player or TiVo, and you're never lacking for something to watch.
  12. What's wrong with just singing it like it's written? Can nobody do that anymore?
  13. Thanks, that sounds good. I'll try it! When I buy buttermilk I freeze whatever's left in little 1-cup plastic containers and it works great for baking. Just shake it up real good after thawing.
  14. I appreciate everybody's help, but I'm looking for a "from scratch" recipe. Maybe I'm too much of a purist, but I don't want to use canned biscuits. Seems to me they would rise too much and I want a thin crust. Besides, I don't have any on hand and I want fried pies tonight!
  15. Does anybody have a good recipe for fried pie crust? I've searched the net and all of them are different. Some use a lot of baking powder and some use little or none. All of them seem to use different amounts of shortening. Some use egg, some don't. Some say milk, some say water, some say Pet milk, some say cream. Some of them have sugar in the dough, one even called for vinegar. My Grandmother made the best but she's gone now and I never learned how she did it. Plus, if y'all will post your's and comment on each other's recipes, I bet I'll get a great one. Thanks!
  16. Don't go expecting a lot, but DO GO! It's a tiny little place on the right-hand end of a little strip mall off of 92 going back toward Hiram, sort of behind Kroger, but it's in the next little row of shops down 92 perpendicular to the Kroger mall. The food's not especially spectacular, but the service and atmosphere of the place makes it seem like it is! There's a tiny buffet with bacon and sausage (both maybe a little overcooked for me, like my Mom always did), potatoes, grits, biscuits, and gravy, and then the kid that runs the place will fix your eggs any way you like them, along with any o
  17. Writing right now! Please also do so. Just heard on the news that Honors' relief of command was made permanent. My father was a career Navy man, fought in two wars, and was killed in a helicopter crash just a few years before his retirement. I used to be proud of our Navy, but now, because of this decision, I'm disgusted with them. I'm highly offended by their action against this man. Suppose I could sue?
  18. Thank you Riograce! Boy, it took a long time to get this answer! I will write.
  19. And there is the whole problem, the video was not made for the whole world to see, but some idiot got "OFFENDED" and made it public!
  20. And, a really important point is that "this gay guy" in the video is actually Capt. Honors himself. That was him as all three persons in the video. That's what I meant about his use of special effects in the video. He didn't implicate anybody.
  21. Please tell me what is hostile about this video?
  22. former member, are you gay?, because I AM! But I'm confident enough in myself and my sexuality to make fun of myself and my gay friends when it's done for humor! It's done all the time, just watch TV now-a-days. If you're gay then I bet you've made a few jokes about it yourself, or else you have some serious hang-ups about it. If you're not gay then you have no right to make that comment. Thank you Pubby for making the video available so everybody can see how trivial this whole issue is, and for agreeing that the man should not lose his job over this harmless little parody. Now, if anybod
  23. What is going on in the world today with political correctness? After hearing the story on the news about this Navy CO of the USS Enterprise who is about to be relieved of his command and probably have his career devastated because he made a little video to get a few laughs from his crew, I'm mad as H*ll! Does anybody know where we can write or email to show support for this guy? I watched the video and saw nothing "lewd, sexist and homophobic" about it. Yeah, there was some profanity in it--have you ever heard a drill sergeant, or seen a movie rated higher than PG13 lately? I thought it was g
  24. Reading the recent topic "New Ag Commissioner, Gary Black, wants to remove..." prompted me to share an opinion I've felt strongly about for many years; the carving on the face of Stone Mountain, and it's not about political correctness or racism, but about the defacing of nature. I have always considered it nothing more than graffiti! Here we had a beautiful and magnificent work of nature, commonly called “the largest exposed piece of granite in the world" (although technically that's erroneous), and some guy decided that he could improve on it by carving an image into it glorifying war betwee
  25. Thanks for the info. I read up on it last year and would love to be able to do it. Got the pressure washer already, but my air comp is just one of the little nail-gun jobs and can't spend the money on a bigger one right now. Oh well, maybe in the future. Had no idea anybody around here would be doing it. I've been tempted to just take the pressure washer out and blow it up into the air to see what happened. Even ice globs might be fun. Glad you're doing it the right way and having fun!
