  1. I saw lots of people getting out of their trucks and cars to help push cars. I saw them attaching tow ropes and pulling people out of ditches. Paulding County has some great, helpful people living out here.
  2. Yes. We just got an automated call from Paulding County schools that stated there were some kids still at schools.
  3. I walked home from work today and it was uphill. Well I walked the last 3 miles. I drove the other 36 miles. But hey, that counts!
  4. Wine & cheese!! Cream for the Kahlua...
  5. No NC it wasn't. I asked a legitimate question about how many showers people get these days. And yes, it was a good talk. I learned quite a bit.
  6. Unfortunately the girl's mother is just like her and not a good influence. It 's not really the absence of a thank you note that everyone is upset about, it's more about the attitude of entitlement. She does expect people to supply her needs. She really doesn't care who does it as long as someone does it for her. A verbal acknowledgement from her would be helpful but that isn't forthcoming either. Given her attitude, it's hard to get people interested in wanting to do anything. I tried to speak to her about it but she acted like a spoiled child and said she didn't need my advice. I've thought
  7. Don't be scared. I had every labor complication you can think of and the doctor did use forceps. The minute I held that sweet little baby everything was right with the world.
  8. Pork chops, mashed potatoes and white acre peas
  9. Oh I wish it were that simple. If I personally give the shower, I'm liable to be the only person from my side of the family attending. I'll be the one that has to explain where Grandma and the rest of the family are. This isn't the type of crowd that will just wonder to themselves. And the girl is expecting more big gifts. She's already said that she needs another crib, another car seat, another dresser.
  10. What are the guidelines for baby showers in this day and age? My family and co-workers are pretty split down the middle on the subject. The older, more traditional women say that you have a shower only for the first girl and the first boy and that you do not have a shower every time you are pregnant. They also say that if you have a gender reveal party, you don't also have a baby shower for the same child. The younger group pretty much celebrates the birth of every child with a baby shower and a gender reveal party. I ask because I have family member that is pregnant with her second child
  11. Go to Buckhead. Lenox Square is on the corner of Lenox Road and Peachtree Road. Phipps Plaza is across the street from Lenox on the opposite corner. Phipps is a really nice mall with high end shopping, Lenox is more mainstream but still a world of difference from Arbor Place.
  12. We decided to forego tradition. We ate the greens and the pork and the peas every year in the past but this year we had red beans and rice. My husband's regional tradition was always pork and sauerkraut. Mine is ham, greens and black eyed peas. Neither of us care for the other's New Year menu so we made something we both like.
  13. Good song. I like Mickey Gilley's version.
  14. Some women don't change their name when they get married. Not sure if that's the case here or not but I personally know several married women still using their maiden names both professionally & in their everyday lives.
  15. I've noticed little moles popping up in the last year or so. And I hate moles. My mother told me that she had all of hers removed at the doctors office but 50% of them reappeared or grew back. Anybody have a sure fire way to get rid of them and keep them gone?
  16. Return what you don't want or need, keep the money and buy yourself something that you actually want or need. I send my husband links to what I'd like but never anyone else. Now my ex mother-in-law would send me a specific list of what she wanted & none of it was cheap. I just chalked it up to her being selfish and insane & ignored her list. I couldn't afford anything on her list.
  17. What are you looking for? I'm confused. Snow? That cold, wet, white wintery stuff?
  18. I believe somewhat. Interestingly enough, this past week, there was an incident that moved me further from the skeptical side to the believer side. My mother has had a rough year. She lost her husband in February. My stepfather had three adult daughters who all have young children and he loved being a grandfather. The relationship with one daughter however was not good and he hardly ever saw those three grandchildren. Every time he visited with any of his grandchildren he would give them $5.00 spending money. This Christmas my mother was at my house and as she had done since her husband p
  19. Pubby and The Postman are the top two. ETA - Go Blue gave a nod to Pubby in his post title so I guess it's really Go Blu & the Postman.
  20. Dang, I work in Atlanta but I would have done it in a heartbeat in exchange for you preparing my dinner!
  21. My first thought was Florida, California and New Mexico. In that order. New Mexico only because they think that there were alien men from Mars being kept in an airplane hanger in Roswell.
  22. I don't. I guess it's a sign of the times. I remember that my parents always tipped them at Christmas, along with the mailman too. My mother would even drive to the salon to drop off a Christmas card w/ a tip for her regular stylist. At one time you could tip $5 or $10 and that was a good tip especially since lots of people were doing it and it all added up to a hefty sum. Things are different now for my family. With all the nieces, nephews, great nieces, etc. it's hard to come up with enough gifts/money for family members let alone other people.
  23. Depends. What's more important to you when purchasing? Size or quality?
  24. Too many gone in the last few days. Ray Price, Joan Fontaine, Peer O'Toole, Tom Laughlin....
  25. I mailed about twenty out. Have received two. One was from a auto repair shop so that one doesn't really count.
