  1. I called a travel agent because I wanted to make sure I did the "required" Savannah visit stuff. Also it is the only way I could get reservations for Lady and Son's without the wait in line while I was there. I am sure there are some hidden treasures that someone knows about though. We love seafood, so a good seafood place would help.
  2. Next week my husband and I are celebrating our 20th anniversary by taking a few days in Savannah. We have never been there and since we hae lived in Georgia 9 years now, I thought it was time to go. We are staying at a very quaint looking hotel in the Historic District. We have reservations for the Paula Deen Tour, Lady and Son's Restaurant, The Savannah Experience Tour and a private horse drawn carriage ghost tour on the night of our anniversary. Is there anything that you think we just HAVE TO see while we are there? I want to make sure we see the best of Savannah.
  3. My kids are big (16 and 19) but I still love to get that hug and kiss when they will give it up. As far as friends, family, etc. hugs are fine...but not necessary...except from my mom. Strangers...I prefer just a "hello" with no touching. I am not a touchy feely person but I am not going to freak if someone hugs me.
  4. You're right I didn't know that. Ya learn something new everyday.
  5. Because most teachers get into the profession because they love children and love to see them learn. It is heartbreaking to see a child who does not have, for whatever reason, the basic tools, (paper, pencils, etc.) that they need to succeed. It is also nearly impossible to teach them when they are hungry. So for these reasons we spend our monies to make sure that every child can have what they need to succeed. Not to mention that if they don't succeed the teacher is often held responsible without a thought about what the child did not have that would have helped that child. It is t
  6. I would think that is true, but it seems that contracts don't mean the same thing when the government is on the signing end. Same as the F22 contract mentioned yesterday. The government cancelled the contract that they had and decided not to build the remaining F22's they had agreed on. If you or I "decided" not to fulfill a contract I doubt we would get out of it as easily.
  7. Sure is. Seems they are trying to find the best place to put him to maximize profits. Once again, everyone is making a living off of Michael and there is no end in sight.
  8. The way the news reported it is that EVERY state employee including teachers will be taking 3 day furloughs. I will be watching to see if that really includes ALL employees. Either way, if it is ALL state employees that would that include ALL the school staff who make substantially less money than teachers? If so I am sure that they will be hit hard also. I work at a school but have a husband's financial support to fall back on but I know many people who are counting on their paychecks to survive and a 3 day furlough from paraprofessional, custodial, cafeterial, bus driver, etc. pay is a ha
  9. I agree. Finally someone who seems to see what I am seeing more and more lately. Where is our compassion these days?
  10. Congratulations on your accomplishment, but also thank you!! Thank you for choosing Special Education as your degree of choice. Caring and compassionate special education teachers are a much needed commodity. You should be very proud of your choice!
  11. Was it wrong? yes Will she pay for her mistake? yes Do I want to "lock her in a hot car and put it on television"? NO I have no idea why it happened but maybe she is deserving of my compassion since I am not her judge. I watched a woman on Oprah not long ago who left her daughter in her car and she died. It was an accident because she was not in the habit of having her daughter with her. She was a broken woman, who will never forgive herself. We do not know the circumstances of this mother either. Why is everyone so quick to condemn these days?
  12. Lockheed is switching over at the beginning of next year to a one plan deal, as in no choices, you get the Lockheed insurance period. In reading about the benefits, although it is not call Aetna I do believe it underwritten by Aetna so there will be many more people dealing with them in this area after this year. Hopefully they will work things out. Like someone said earlier, Cigna did the same thing this year. They finally came to an agreement in the last week of negotiations. It is all a scare tactic.
  13. That one gave me a good laugh today!!!!
  14. Go for a clean cotton or linen smell. They are just clean smelling and not flowery or fruity. I like the plug ins. My favorite ones are the one at Bath and Body in the mall. They have LOTS of scents to choose from too. If you don't want to go all the way to the mall, stick with the Febreeze plug ins. They have 2 scents that rotate so that it seems fresh longer.
  15. It's a tough question and only you know your children well enough to judge. But my father died when I was 4 (almost 5), very suddenly and unexpectedly. The visitation and funeral was closed casket and my mom decided to take me. I don't remember any of it but I have heard the stories. I was not happy about my "Daddy the box". I don't think it went well at all. After that I was a teenager before I would go into a funeral home at all again. I didn't really know why but I have VERY uneasy feelings about it. I think it may have made a deeper impression on me than I was/am even aware of. I
  16. I am not a stay home mom I work for the PC Schools so I don't have far to drive. However, my husband drives to Lockheed everyday. He was the one who chose S.Paulding to live in though. He doesn't really mind the drive most days. He prefers the rural living of paulding county. It is no where near as rural as when we moved here 9 years ago though. When the kids are finished with school, college, have jobs and the hubby retires we will probably move then. Not because we don't like South Paulding though, just to get closer to a lake.
  17. I have spent several days in ther ewith my son during his video EEG, and they are so god at taking care of everyone. There is absolutely no better place to be with a sick child. Good luck to you!
  18. I realize that, but those changes are happening everywhere. In our neighborhood (a very small one) we have seen ups and downs. Luckily the downs have been mostly rentals and have left without staying too long. All in all, the Nebo Road area, which is where I live, has been a pleasant place to live. I can't complain, for what we paid for our home the neighborhood has been pretty well kept (minus a couple of homes) and we have not seen crimes in our particular area. The school Nebo, SPMS and SPHS...well they are Paulding County schools and I think they are basically al the same. You have
  19. I have lived here with my family fro 9 years and we are very happy here. i have seen the changes that others talk about: new stores moving in, Hiram growing, businesses failing, housing market crashing, etc. All in all it is no different than the rest of the world, we have lived many places too. It is convenient to everything that you will need and there are many good people right here for you to make friends with. What more could a person want? Welcome!
  20. enchiladas, chips and homemade salsa (made with fresh maters from my mom's garden)
  21. I do think it is 24 hours but I wouldn't take the chance without first reaching my agent. Another littel bit of advice, in case you need it. I have 2 boys so I know the insurance woes! My youngest son is 16 now and just completed his Driver's ED class. When I called the our insurance company (which was the cheapest for us when myoldes son got his license) to find out how much our premium would go up by adding my son to our policy when gets his license I was shocked!! Not adding a car, just a kid, 1400.00 per year. This would make our auto insurance $4000.00 a year. I could probably bu
  22. I first saw Ed Hardy a few years ago when my son (then about 17) and I went on a trip to Biloxi. They were selling the EH hats and t-shirts in the Hard Rock Casino Shops. Hats were about $100 and shirts were $150 and up. When he graduated high school The Buckle store in the mall had just got their first EH shirt and he bought it with some of his graduation money for $90. I told him he was crazy but he REALY wanted it. It is a very cool t-shirt and he has worn it quite a lot but now that you can buy them at Marshall's, Ross and those places he doesn't seem as impressed. I think he liked
  23. SURGERY!!!! I had it a few months ago on my right hand and now I am definitely going to have it done on my left. It cured it and I have NO PROBLEMS. The longer you wait the more permanent damage you are doing to the nerve and the less successful the surgery will be!
  24. i know...my friend makes fun of all the doctor's names that I see. My son sees a doctor named Oyebanjo..pronounced oy-banjo. It is funny..I have never had a problem understanding any of them. Some have heavier accents than others but it really has not been a problem for me.
  25. I have an anniversary band that has diamonds 3/4 of the way round it. One of them has fallen out and I lost it. I am looking for a jeweler to put a new diamond in and check to make sure the rest are secure. Has anyone had any experiences with anyone local?
