If the purpose of a background check is to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and mentally ill people then all transactions need to be checked. If it only applies to retail sales the criminals and crazies simply turn to gun shows and individual sales and they get what they want, the law be damned. The background check as it stands today only protects Walmart, Academy and similar from being sued, and is a political tool to try and make us all feel better about having done something when in reality we've accomplished nothing.

When did the Boy Scouts make the statement that sex with other men is OK?
-
"The Boy Scouts of America today voted to lift its longtime national ban on admitting openly gay Scouts but will continue to exclude openly gay adults from leadership roles." Hardly think that's "openly supporting gays".

Just to clarify, according the the reports I've read both perps are in the hospital after being shot by police, so the police do have access to firearms and not just a club reinforced by witty retort.

I don't know the specifics of the septic tank regulation but I do know that if the population density in an area gets too high, and they're on septic, unpumped tanks will pollute groundwater to the point that it will actually stink and untreated water will run in the street. Dysentery and other diseases become a problem. Population density typically dictates the management of sewage. And I've never heard of anyone accidently being rowed to death. LOL I realize Kennesaw isn't enforcing this law. But if my neighbors crazy cousin visits and gets a hold of the required gun and accidently s

They need to review existing gun laws and keep the ones that work and dump or tweak the ones that don't. Makes no sense to me that you go through a background check at Walmart but not at a gun show. All that law does is protect Walmart from being sued, it doesn't keep guns, on balance, out of the hands of those that shouldn't have them.

You're right, a gun is consistent, mental health is not. How many times have we heard the story of the person that just snapped after losing a job, going broke, being dumped, etc.

Points to ponder, every year 100's of teachers are assaulted in their classrooms by students. If a gun was present, would the situation be better or worse? I own guns for sporting purposes but isn't requiring me to own a gun, or own anything for that matter, a violation of my personal rights? People say we need to keep the guns away from the crazies, how is that defined? I know people that have stock piled guns and ammo and if these people sat down and talked to a psychologists, especially a government appointed psychologists, they'd not only have their guns taken away but they'd be lo

A failure to communicate - Oh, there's arsenic in your chicken
Spucketts replied to gpatt0n's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Granny never put 20+,000 birds in a 60x600 house, in fact her few birds just ran around the farm. She'd hand pluck/gut the birds and would use care to not get the guts and their content all over the meat. Yes proper cooking matters but corporate processed birds hardly compare to her technique, corporate farming can't afford to give that kind of attention to detail/cleanliness. Same goes for corporate-grown lettuce, cantaloupe, cilantro and processed peanut butter, which have all killed people in recent years due to salmonella contamination. -
I'd outlaw stupidity.

I'm confused about the OK tornado info..........

The media grabbed a number and ran with it before there was any verification. Kinda like raping babies in the Superdome, "We need a headline!" -
Stick your toothbrush in the microwave once a week or more often if you're sick, it'll kill any germs.

Well if you expect 2 or 3 chicken producers to produce enough meat to cover the market that 100's of producers used to cover you've got to put something in the food to quickly grow a bird (you know it takes only 40 days to turn a chick into a table ready bird?) and you've got to do something to control pests in and around the chicken house. A little arsnic'll effectively keep the bugs and rats out of the feed bins. Consider the up-side, your body'll be nicely preserved years after you're dead. -
It's due to people feeding them all the time, they lost their fear of humans.

We drove in that mess on our way to Chattanooga yesterday and we noticed that the bank, on 92 just south of 278, had taken a tree through the drive-through roof. When we came back through some 6 hours later they had already removed the damage and were ready to fix the structure. That contractor must have owed that bank a lot of money to get that kind of service. LOL

I really have no idea at what age. Recently we passed some houses we lived in when I was a kid and Mom pointed and said "that's the one". I said "no way, our house was great big and that place is itty-bitty".

I think it was Bill Engvill that said every driver should be issued a gun that shoots little flags. Someone cuts you off, BANG! Someone just stops in the middle of the road, BANG! Someone is seen driving and texting, BANG! Then all the cops need to do is look for the car with all the little flags on it and yank them off the street.

looking for a place to pay $ for old car batteries
Spucketts replied to GreenThumbsnButterfingers's topic in RECENT TOPICS
That's Alsobrooks Recycling at Ridge, go by it everyday and it seems to be a busy place. Not sure what all they take. Found a web site that says they take lead, not sure about batteries. Call 678-567-5544 for info. -
According to the Cultural Arts Council web site you have to buy tickets for a buck if you want to taste and most items will be 2-4 tickets. $2-4 to taste Red Lobster, The Olive Garden, and similar....I thought these "Taste of ( )" were a marketing tool for restaurants to give people a free taste so that they'll show up at the restaurant for lunch or dinner. Guess not.

Do you Envy and or Dislike the rich? If so, why? Is success not good?

When I hear this question posed all I can hear is a Marsha Brady-ish response, "They all hate me because I'm beautiful!" No we hate you because you're a narcissistic prick. A friend just had the grill of the car studded with some kind of jewels, you know how many poor families could have been fed for a year on what that cost? -
He was always one of those solid "also rans". Bumped fenders with most of the greats, Petty, Earnhardt, etc. He must have been in his 60's, didn't see his age listed. There has been recent talk about the rise of suicide, especially among older men.

I was in Macon Monday (gas there was $3.28 a gallon) and Kennesaw on Tuesday, had no problem with empty gas stations.

I don't have a problem with the rich in general, I have a problem with the decision makers which are typically politicians (rich), special interest/influence groups (run by rich), corporate big wigs (rich), and financiers (rich) which generally feel that its to the benefit to eliminate jobs, eliminate income for middle class people, and generally follow policies that drive down the standard of living for Joe Average. And those people in those motorized carts in Walmart, I've got a problem with them. I mean can't you see there's already 3 in this isle blocking everything? -
I heard just bits and pieces, she was placed in an induced coma I think due to a lung infection due to the asthma, she had a history of asthma but it had not been this severe in the past. Very sad story, prayers to the family.
