  1. Google AA meetings. There are websites with meeting times and locations.
  2. I'm assuming you're over the age of 50. If there's stuff on facebook I don't like I just ignore it. For me it's the easiest way to keep up with family. We have family all over the U.S., and some in Japan and Switzerland, so it's the easiest way for all of us to keep up with our kids lives.
  3. I went through a hundred emotions. I couldn't believe I didn't know that her vision was that bad. I know she's just now learning to talk, and she couldn't tell me, but I felt like I just should have known. Then I worried that she's going to be picked on because she has something no one else in her daycare has. Her left lens is thick, and her eyes don't look even when you look at her. I'm heartbroken that she might get picked on at some point. But then I figured we all have something that someone will make fun of, and if it's not the glasses it'll be something else. She's got a strong will and
  4. I don't know that the screening that this company does detects astigmatism. There was nothing noted on my daughters screening about astigmatism, but when we took her to the pediatric ophthalmologist they found that in her left eye, in addition to the other issue. The screening this group does looks at refractive properties, I think it can find the near and farsightedness as well as cataracts. I probably need to take my older one to the ophthalmologist as well to double check. My point was that if I had passed on this screening again this year I never would have known that she had this issu
  5. Thanks! She's doing really good with them. I did notice this weekend that she's looking over the top a lot so I'm going to check back with the optometrist to see if they're fitting properly. It's hard to fit an 18 month old for glasses.
  6. It's funny you say that. I didn't get glasses until I was in college. I always had good vision, but I started to notice that I was having trouble seeing the white board in lecture halls. I went and got glasses and the first thing that hit me was how I could see each individual leaf on a tree. I only wear my glasses now for night driving, I have astigmatism and it makes my night vision blurry, but my vision loss isn't enough to bother me.
  7. I just want to share a quick PSA. My kids were offered vision screening through a group called FocusFirst here in Alabama. The group comes out to daycare's and preschools to do vision screening free of charge. I declined the free screening last year because neither child showed any issues with vision. When the screening came around this year I went ahead and had them screened. My oldest daughter who is almost 3 came back just fine. My 18 month old however was flagged with a possible serious issue. I immediately set up an appointment with the pediatric ophthalmologist (Since where we live there
  8. I trick or treated as a kid from the time I was old enough to walk well in to high school (with a costume) and never once did anyone have an issue with it being on whatever day it fell on. Heck we even did it in the snow one year. We stayed up late and went to school the next day. This whole thing is idiotic. However where we live now we don't have a neighborhood to trick or treat in, so we're going to our church festival on Wednesday, and then a neighboring town is having a halloween costume parade and trunk or treat on thursday.
  9. She's cute! I miss babies. My youngest is 18 months and my oldest is about to turn 3.
  10. I lived in Memphis for a little over a year. I lived downtown right near the Redbirds stadium in a gated apartment community that I always felt safe in due to the fact that it was in the tourist area, a couple blocks from Beal. I also lived outside the city on the far far east end of Shelby county and felt safe in the apartments I lived in because they were on a golf course community. HOWEVER, pretty much anywhere in between I was scared to go alone. My husband worked on a street called Mount Moriah. I was always worried if he had to work late. There were bullet holes in the building. When
  11. Kentucky, I guess I moved too far south when I left Ohio
  12. It was in response to the poster who said that the offense needed to be highlighted.
  13. Whatever Pubby's stance is on the issue I take the other side.

    Trash

You think someone that leaves trash on the road reads the newspaper?
  15. WRONG. In the previous free market I could have a policy that covered major medical with a low premium. It allowed me to have an affordable premium without worry that a major illness would bankrupt me. ACA guidelines no longer allow that type of coverage to be sold.
  16. Both my husband and I will be without insurance come January 1st if we don't qualify for a subsidy that we can afford on the exchange, but 4 weeks in I still can't successfully get anything from the healthcare.gov website.
  17. It crosses 278 in Hiram and goes south through Douglasville, I think it goes further south than that. To Fairburn maybe?
  18. I'm a yankee, been in the south half my life, and I didn't notice until it was pointed out in this thread that I too say Atlana
  19. Why is it Houston Texas, but it's Houston (pronounced House-ton) Georgia? or Bremen is pronounced Bree-man not Brim-an, or Villa Rica is pronounced Villa Rick-a instead of Villa Ree-ka. You Georgians are nuts.
  20. This is my problem. I'm 12 years out from graduating college and I'm still paying off student loans.
  21. Honestly, I think it has to do with what is on television, and lack of parents stepping in and watching what they expose their kids to. I'm a recovering reality TV junky. I have decided for my sanity, and for the sake of my girls that certain programs won't be seen in my house anymore. My kids are little, but they still understand what's going on. About a year ago I stopped watching Real Housewives when my daughter was in the room because she asked why those women were so angry, and she was only 2 at the time. I watch Catfish on MTV, and during the commercials last night I saw previews for 3 s
  22. I don't need to listen to anyone's opinion on how this is working. For my family it is a disaster. We can't afford what our premiums are going up to, and even if we get a subsidy we can't afford the out of pocket costs either. So in short, I'm screwed, and I'm someone it should help.
  23. And how would the medicaid expansion be paid for?
  24. BCBS Bronze plan in the state of Alabama is $6,350 individual and $12,700 family, that's calendar year deductible. Calendar year out of pocket maximum is the same, you are covered 100% after you reach that level. Physician visits are $40 copay for first 3 visits there after covered 100% SUBJECT TO deductible. The way I understand that is that each family member gets 3 doc visits at $40 a piece, and then will pay full price until the deductible is met. BCBS is the only company providing plans in the state of Alabama in the county I live in. This information I got through BCBS because I
