  1. If we do nothing, it allows for the possibility of another muslim-brotherhood type of govt to take over, or another country to possibly gain favor in the Middle East (where we desperately need it), and causes us to further lose credibility since our great leader already drew a line in the sand over which Syria better not cross, but did anyway. If we take action, we risk helping put another extremist regime in control, or getting bogged down in their civil war, or possibly pissing off more muslims. So we are pretty much damned if we do, damned if we don't.
  2. Talk about education at its finest. A system that is set up to produce future failures.
  3. You know, I thought about this after reading the post about customer service. It seems to come down to too many people thinking only of themselves. As pointed out, express lanes where there is an item limit... some people don't think it applies to them. Similarly, you see people driving that appear to think they are the only people on the road. I have also noticed that people feel the need to stand in the middle of an aisle in the store as if there are no other people shopping there. More and more it seems that people (generally) suck these days.
  4. ↑↑↑↑↑↑ That was a great post. What I specifically found interesting is attitude of many that a standardized test is the ultimate measure of proficiency. I agree with the poster that it is not. I would take that further and suggest that a good test score serves the feel good "aren't we doing a great job for our kids" mentality. Sadly, I do not believe that our public school system, from its inception, ever intended to purposely emphasize a student's ability to think on his or her own, to ask questions, or to think out side of the box. I do believe that our public school
  5. I read the article from the second link and found it interesting. While I believe that politics is at the heart of choosing one policy or another, such a choice should be based on realistic positive results that could/should be obtained from it. Eliminating some elements of education and reducing others is not the way to achieve better educated students, its only achievement will be better scores based on a simple education. And when it comes to pass that test scores have gone up due to Common Core, everyone will jump for joy and sing the praises of Common Core. Yet the only re
  6. I know plenty of zombies, but they are not all productive.
  7. We have a moon? And who said Paulding county wasn't growing??
  8. Local media sure took this ball and ran with it... ran too far with it. After the police chief gave his briefing, stating that the guy had an AK, channel 11 was talking about the guy being armed to the teeth. WTF? And they are still going on about it. Nobody shot... and I believe the media are a little put off about it.

  10. Well. It seems to me that any post by eddie in any topic should be considered libel or name-calling or gratuitous gossip. It should then be safe to assume that appropriate action has been taken. Good to know.
  11. As long as Zayres and Richway are still around, I'm ok.
  12. I went early this morning. No line and I was in and out. I will tell you that it is nice paying $20 when tag time rolls around.
  13. Now if he wants some cats, I have a few extra...
  14. My comment was about the initial business reactions, as well as those by the "throw her out" crowd. I am well aware that discrimination is against the law and not a matter of feeling.
  15. I didn't know anything about this until maybe 04, when the wife has hospitalized and I was wondering around the Paulding hospital. That was an interesting post. Thanks.
  16. The companies that have ended their affiliation with Paula Deen have done so simply to keep black people happy. "See? We don't accept or tolerate that. Aren't we great?" And while I know there is more to it than PD using the N-word (which is a joke that we have to refer to it as such in this type of discussion), the first several companies to drop her did so based on what she said-- 30 years ago. And Walmart, Target?? The same stores that sell CDs and movies with the same word littered throughout?? But then that's "art", I suppose? The very idea that we have let words, na
  17. I just heard that on the news this morning. The whole thing blows.
  18. I think it's crap. Maybe I should head up to Cherokee and eat at her restaurant. And play a slot machine or two.
  19. I've got some blocks.
  20. I want to be a zombie. Are they gonna check IDs?
  21. The fact that this (NSA spying on us) has happened isn't the fault of the Democrats or of the Republicans. The blame clearly rests on our shoulders. It was "we the people" that were demanding that things be done in the wake of 9-11, we were willing to give up a little Freedom in exchange for safety... or the illusion of it. And as our Freedom has been chipped away, we have stood by and done nothing, aside from a little complaining. We have become suckers that will fall for any explanation that is offered, even giving the govt. a pass when it says it cannot comment on something
  22. Valid points by all. But $1000? Diploma withheld? She broke the rules... she should have been told to remove it or she doesn't walk, then if she insisted on keeping it, pull her out of the ceremony. The punishment for this "crime" doesn't seem to be just.
  23. Isn't that just wrong? Imagine my shock after being in a coma for over a month to find I still had a u-verse bill, a power bill and a wireless bill... all for things that had not been used at all!! It's a scam, no doubt about it.
  24. That's funny! If the govt. would hush, I'd be happy to hand over my money.
  25. Or he found a book in the trash. I feel like I have just been called stupid. But coming from you, it doesn't seem all that bad.
