We only have basic flip phones, also. I can't be bothered with the fancy stuff.

Yeah...before Spring comes flood season! Where we are, the North side of Detroit Lakes, I think it would take an act of God to see any flooding.....down in town, next to the lake, will probably see some though. When we moved here in Feb. 2009 we moved into townhomes in Moorhead.... just in time for two blizzards and a pretty major flood. We were less then 1/2 mile away from the Red River and clueless. I remember hearing the "tornado" sirens going off and trying to figure out why (in March on a beautiful day) and then realized that the dikes had sprung a leak! I looked at Mark and we jus

lowrider..... the lack of birds in the winter is the first thing I noticed when I moved up here!! Very weird! I was out chipping the ice off the driveway (nearly 3 inches thick...with snow on top) when I heard some Chickadees! I was amazed!! It has been months since I have heard a bird of any kind. We've been up here 2 years now..........and I truly love it! ...but I am definitely ready for Spring. I guess I have another couple of months before the snow is completely gone, though. Ya'll enjoy the thunderstorm........

Mark lost his job of almost 10 years at Yancey, Bros. in January of 2008. We tried to get him a new job in the area...... but nothing was forthcoming. We finally started looking further afield and applied to job offerings almost anywhere in the US. All the really solid leads were from the midwest. In January of 2009 we flew up to MN for the job interview with a John Deere dealer. He got the job!! So we moved. Lock, stock and barrel. We put our house up for sale........... and after paying for both the house and our apartment in Moorhead, MN ........ we lost the house. None of those "w

I seriously used to tell people that I was going to grow up to be Lassie. I loved Lassie...particularly the ones with Timmy. I did turn out to be a bit of a bitch..... does that count?

Now see, that's what I would have thought, too! We've been in our house with the temps being -40*f and our gas bill hasn't been over $60.00 for the month. Go figure! We also never get told to "drip the faucets" up here. There were some teenagers who managed to flip their car in a nearby community last night.... not only did they suffer broken bones, etc............ but also frostbite. It actually happens quite frequently.

Cold and Snow... snow and cold. It's a way of life up here. We were down to -35*F the other night. During the day it was around -22*F. you just get used to it... you don't go out if you don't have to, etc. The house is warm and the cupboards are full... life is good. It is hard to imagine that this snow will be around until late April though. We are in Zone 3 as far as planting is concerned....

Square Foot Gardening Have you looked at Square Foot Gardening? I know you need to be in pots...but he has a lot of great ideas for soil mix, etc.... see if the library has the book. We're going to try SFG on a big scale this spring/summer.... once the snow is gone...in MAY!

Climate Change, hmmmm? yeah... our climate has taken a change........ we're about to hit -40*F up here tonight. I could do with a little global warming right about now.

Is It Appropriate To Wear Any Type Of Clothing To Church?
pwilhelm replied to ButterflyLion's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I know that I wouldn't dress like that....although I have worn jeans and sneakers to church.... I really wouldn't care if anyone else dressed like that. I'm curious, what is the preferred punishment for such hideous behavior? Is there a rating system.... "if the butt crack is showing you shall be flogged" or "if your cleavage is showing and you don't share you shall be stoned" or "if we see your va-jay-jay you shall be spanked and ousted from the church". Would you punish someone for dressing differently? -
We're having chicken and stuff for supper.......... but look what I made for a snack earlier today..... YUMMY! Pretzel Bites! My link
