Lots of reasons.... 1. LOVE!!! the 4 seasons.... there are definite differences between all 4 seasons........ and for the most part the summers are cool and enjoyable (except for the mosquitoes!). 2. The town we live in is less than 8,000 people and is very, very active... lots of activities within the town, lots going on around the town, we have the wallyworld, kmart, sears, fastfood, and the downtown area has a Penneys, and smaller stores. There is a hospital..if you're into that sort of thing. There is a really cool library....... Amtrak goes through and will take us to Minneap

I homeschool my 3 kids (10,11 and 13) everyday........ we don't have a car to run around in because hubby is using it until he fixes the p/u truck we hauled up from GA , we have over 3 feet of snow outside and the kids don't go out and play anymore because the temps are too low, the only adult I talk to is my 82 year old mother back in GA who is slowly fading away........... You guys have no idea what Cabin Fever looks like..........

My link Snow and Ice Removal * Keeping the roads safe for emergency vehicles is our first priority. * Interstates are cleared first, and then state routes from the most heavily traveled to the least traveled. * The most common de-icing mixture is a 3:1 ratio of small ‘89 stone’ and sodium chloride (salt). It is affective in breaking up ice and snow until temperatures drop below 25 degrees. * If temperatures dip below 25 degrees, calcium chloride is added to the stone/salt mixture. * The tandem dump trucks mounted with spreaders can carry approximately 8 to 12 to

What a bunch of pansies! What's the matter.... stuck in the house another day or two and can't handle it? "Ohhhhhh...they do it different up north....the roads should be perfect down south.... why can't I get out and go to work.... waaaaah!" Put on your big girl/boy panties and grow up! What a generation of whiners. sheeeeesh!

We moved from Paulding County to MN in Feb. 2009....... quite a change! LOL We haven't gotten around much yet to check out the other towns...its on our agenda for the spring/summer. We love it here though...will never move back!

A different perspective.......... Last week or so we had ice/snow/ice....... and wind. Ungodly wind! All the roads were officially closed...gates across the highways...roads closed. We have the equipment for it.....but when you are talking ice/snow/wind....they just shut down and wait...it will pass...then the trucks get out and do what they can. For the most part, folks here know when to go out and when not to.... granted, we have some fools...but for the most part people stay off the roads until the officials say it is okay. It can be life or death...with temps around -40*F sometime

LOL That's one of the fun things about a good snow fall! Enjoy!

NG... great looking set up! We've just started learning to cook with cast iron outside...we love it! Well, I wouldn't love it outside right now (9*F) but during the fall we tried a few different things. Can't wait until warmer weather to do more.

The whole thread reminds me of accident threads where people come in and talk about all the ways the accident could have been avoided. Then blame those that may not have had their seatbelts on, didn't signal, shouldn't have been driving, etc. It is in poor taste. -
I don't know for sure...but i would try it. Also, watch your dogs paws when they walk on salted areas....I've seen what some salts will do to concrete I can only imagine what it will do to the pads of a dogs paws. Just wash to paws off as they come in...keep a wet wash cloth near the door. Chances are the ogs won't want to get out in this mess...mine don't. Mine have reduced going out to only a couple of times a day. They love the snow but hate the cold (we're at -8 right now).

Bingo. -
Put your ice-melt/salt down before the ice builds up on the sidewalks, etc. That way you won't have anything to shovel, to speak of.

I've read all the crap in this thread........ I've kept up with the news reports....... I won't get into the politics because, quite frankly, I don't think anything is gained from getting all worked up over arguing politics on an insignificant social forum... BUT, what gets me about this whole thing is this....... So no one is allowed to use any kind of verbage that might inflame the mentally unstable? Both "sides" have used targets......who gives a flying rats hindquarters? The behavior of the few is going to dictate the actions of the many? The targets (on both sides) were put up -

I think she was figuring that I'm in Minnesota so our dish may not be at a similar angle and hence, not need deicing.
-
Cool... I had never hear of that. You learn something new everyday! Thank you.

I've never heard of this........... we have about 3 feet of snow outside and have never done anything like this, or had a need to. hmmmmm? Interesting.
