what are some of your favorite hoilday movies?
MaineGal replied to Lady Raider's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I love ANY Christmas movie! The movies are such a good way to get in the spirit and spend good family time together! My favorites are the ones my children will watch..its just not the same when I'm not snuggled up on the couch with a lit tree and a bowl of popcorn!! People (including myself) can often get caught up in the financial side of Christmas..but there's nothing like cozy PJ's and a good flick to wash the worries away!! -
Thank you! My boyfriend is going to try to find some tomorrow, if not, we are just going to buy one. I would love your recipe. When I read the can last year, it was 7pm on Wed night...and I had to go home and cook until 1am (yeast rolls), so I was stressing already.

Hmmm..was it right by the rest of the pie filling? Thats where I was looking, and they had the sign up, and an empty spot where it should be. I guess I was just too late, and they used the weather as a reason for running out. It really doesnt hurt my feelings..but my boyfriend wanted it. He said we would just buy one. Too bad they didnt run out of all the supplies!

So, I have never made pumpkin pie before. Last year, I picked the can up at Kroger, began to read the directions, and set it back down. I was so stressed..I couldnt bare the thought of it! LOL. So this year, I was going to make one. I went to Kroger today, and there is a sign by the pie fillings that reads something like this "due to the weather, we have a shortage of pumpkin". Am I off the hook again this year?? Has anyone seen any recently?

Do you pass food out, or cook? I may have something for ya.
-
I agree. I hope they get the help they need and stay warm.
-
Thank you, I wasnt sure about that. You are making perfect sense!! Maybe they are "newly" homeless, and would like some help from authorities as to where they can go for help.

It sounds like you're raising a pretty good boy there! This is definately a time for thinking of people less fortunate than ourselves. --I think the OP's concern is sincere, but I would be more likely to be upset if it was on my property. There are all kinds of wackos that have homes and go out to target people.

I was very surprised a few months ago while checking the registry--many were listed as transient.
-
I am concerned for people, and I know often times people get themselves in situations that it is very difficult to get out of. I wish they would resort to a shelter, as the OP mentioned, they will be getting cold soon if they arent already. I live next to a house that is abandoned because of a kitchen fire, then foreclosed. I was looking out my back window one morning, and a man came out of their shed, as if he had slept there. I didnt do anything, because he really didnt cause any harm. I would be nervous about forest fires on my property, or crimes being committed on my property, but that

Do they go to the shelters and feed them in a controlled atmosphere, or stop on the corner of Fulton Industrial Blvd, and ask them if they need something?

Exactly my point. They were ADVISED by their parole officers to do this! I never said they werent people. My point was, that they cannot find homes...there is a church on every corner. With that said, if they were my neighbor and not so much in NEED as living in a tent I wouldnt be AS concerned. BTW--I actually work with someone that has to register. He didnt commit the crime, but pled down because he had already spent $25000 defending himself and couldnt afford to even get to court to receive his fair trial. I know how hard it is for them to find jobs and houses..believe me. I, at the sa

My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Growing old is mandatory...growing up is optional!!! Happy Birthday!!

This is what I was thinking. These guys were staying in tents, from advice from their parole officers. When it hit the news, they were supposed to have tried to help them find permanent homes. One of the guys had committed the crime many years ago, and has a wife and children out of state. He was on probabtion and couldnt leave the state. They cannot live or work near schools, churches, daycares, etc so it was hard to find a place. Its a sad situation, but I wouldnt feel too good if it was in the woods near my house. The crimes may have been minor, or may have been severe.

This is sad. I bet he was very happy opening all those cards though! Think of the smile on his face!!
