  1. My parents are in their 70's.....Thankfully, they're 6 miles away. When their VCR finally kicked the bucket - my hubby got them a DVR thru Comcast - I was like "you have no idea what you're in for" and he was like "it's simple, they'll be fine" (He'd obviously forgotten that anytime the power went off, he had to reprogram the vcr for Mom's soap opera) He was driving out there every day for like 2 weeks It was hilarious - one time they muted the tv because they couldn't figure out how to turn it off that night and didn't want to call for fear we'd be in bed (at 9 pm)!! And, my
  2. I've noticed that each Friday there are threads needing scores. Both the AJC & wsbtv have great sites for scores & yes, they even list Paulding schools Oh, the ajcs is updated constantly throughout the games. My link My link
  3. My link A shooting reported Monday night on the Silver Comet Trail was a self-inflicted wound, according to Polk County police. Police said they were called to the Coots Lake Road area Monday evening with reports of a shooting. The woman was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta and is going to recover, according to police. The policy of The Cedartown Standard and The Rockmart Journal is to withhold the name of those involved in attempted suicides.
  4. Oh, I think the schools know better - it's the parents who won't accept it. I see it with my neighbors/friends. Back in the day, if a teacher/administrator/coach/etc., told my mom I'd done something - my mom listened to them and weighed the evidence &, I knew there'd be consequences. What I see now - parents saying the stupid teacher/admin/coach, etc., is lying or did something first to provoke, doesn't like their child and the not my child syndrome, etc. The kids KNOW there are no consequences. Scares me as these are the kids that'll be working in my nursing home!!
  5. Sent to me sometime in the last two years....found it today to put on facebook....thought I'd share with you guys, too.
  6. It's so funny when their individual personalities begin to show.....My sister went thru the "madonna" style stage while I was wearing jeans with classy jackets.....so I truly understand.
  7. GAP, Land's End, JC Penney, Kohls - He's a big Lee & Levi's fan too (Kohls)......my 13 year old hates the holes. Says it makes us look like we don't care about personal hygiene and that we look poor & uneducated - go figure. If he gets a hole in his jeans - he puts them in the "outgrown" area for me to get rid of. And, he quotes Will Smith - figure this one out - lol Smith's reply to detractors was that he was just responding to his own personal environment—one that did not include the stresses of a dysfunctional family, drug abuse, or violent crime. "In the beginning, followi
  8. I agree....my kiddo has been in private since K4 - now in 8th. Perfect situation - heck no. But, it is easier to deal with any issues. Smaller class size, smaller numbers overall & the administration is not "politically correct" and has the authority to take care of all situations. Problem kids are dealt with immediately and, if it's really a problem, the kids aren't "invited back". But, anyone who thinks private schools are perfect are misguided - as are those who think all of us send out kids to private schools are sheltering our kids from the real world.
  9. So, the ambulance will be there strictly for the heart attacks from the food?
  10. I'm sorry you were teased as a child. So was I. I think we'd be hard pressed to find a single person who was not teased in some way. Mine was that my father had died & my single mother did the best she could for us - and, the church gave her some clothes for me - one of the dresses I loved came from a child a grade ahead of me - so they all made fun of me for wearing "charity clothes", my older style bike, etc., etc. Guess I was just weird because I felt sorry for them - even then. Anyway - we do not need more "laws". You cannot legislate morality. Courts are so tied up & bro
  11. Yeah, my kiddo said that in the past, too. I've always told him I believe/trust him until I have a reason not to, but, he is the product of an older mom, so, I've watched others. And, seriously, as I talk to moms and listen & watch the outcome (usually with no apologies to the affected person) - so much is blown outta proportion that could be handled by taking a deep breath & finding out the facts......
  12. Probably because the kids saw the police there &, Maxine posted there were several, kids assumed multiple police = lockdown???? Possible.
  13. Because they're kids. I am noticing that my friends believe every single word out of the kids mouths without taking into account that kids - being kids (including teens) - exaggerate/dramatize. They're not being mean about it - just the nature of the age/emotions/maturity. And, if most of my friends would be adults, stop & take one deep breath, and not jump on what the kids say, we'd all be much better off....
  14. No personal experience, but, I have a good friends' Dad who is being treated at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. They have been extremely pleased/impressed. His is cancer - multiple sites.
  15. This is a repeat show.......should have posted that.
  16. My link This is where "reform" could be done. Holder saying no one thought "they didn't think it would be targeted by fraud".
  17. WHAT???? He did NOT say he QUIT. He could have been laid off - his company could have gone under - where in the world? I've read a lot of hateful things on this site over the years, but, unless you read a different post than I did - why did you attack the OP?
  18. Did someone approve the Chupacabra's vacation request?? If so, I know where he is. My link Strangely, there was reportedly very little evidence of blood in the area where the goat bodies were found -- throwing suspicion on an unknown animal or chupacabra.
  19. A few years ago, we had BCBS of GA with a low deductible & low payments. Each year at renewal, our increase was a minimum of 25% in premium costs and we never met our deductible. Finally, our premium was over $1000 per month & I'd taken our deductible up to $3500 per year. Each year I was told by BCBS that the age group we were in were seeing a large increase in claims and that was driving the prices up. That's when I went with the HSA with United Healthcare as the high deductible insurance. We've only seen a 3 - 4 percent increase each year at renewal - until this year. I was tol
  20. I've read a lot of articles & watched the news.....there is no indication that she has killed herself. They're awaiting toxicology. Glen Turners sister is quoted as saying she doesn't believe she would kill herself.
  21. Oh YEAH, they can.....then,let's hope she's not like me - mom & aunt with breast cancer, and her other 3 sisters with ovarian/uterine/cervical cancers - they will NOT give me hormones - period. Just to stabilize me, they gave me a bio identical hormone for 30 days - I could actually feel my hair grow. I've made some drastic changes to my lifestyle - lost 15 lbs - and, have made a world of difference on my own.
  22. I'm dead in the middle of my midlife crisis - really, I am - but, my car is paid for and I just can't justify affording the car I'm drooling over.
  23. Call and explain and see if they'll work with you. We have a huge deductible and I'm undergoing testing - CAT scan w/contrast dye (which I had an allergic reaction to and had an er visit), blood work, and now I have to have an MRI w/contrast AND I had my mammogram in the middle of all of that - along with normal visit for my hubby. Anyway.....they looked at my deductible and what all I was needing & worked with me not only on the charges but on a payment plan also.
  24. Wolf Camera still does it in there stores.
