  1. I have had three encounters: The first was at a school and an obvious PCom conversation was happening. I approached and attempted to join in and only got rude looks. The 2nd was at a nearby campground and we had a great conversation. The 3rd was with Subby at my job. He's a great guy. It took me awhile to attempt to talk to anyone about Pcom after the school incident. It was intimidating.
  2. I would be interested in the history also. My father was a member of the volunteer Hiram Fire Department. I was young, so my memories consist of a few of the volunteers, Chief Dokey and the station itself (had my Sweet 16 there)....also the sound of my father's screeching tires as he turned the corner from Seaboard Avenue onto Oak Street in the middle of the night. Thankfully, he always came home safe. I guess some things never leave you. One cool memory is they used to host haunted houses to raise money for the station. They were the best. Not certain about the facts, but my sis
  3. No children needed at Dugan. They assess at the beginning of the school-year. Wonder how they assign classes then? Oh well... Had paperwork ready, quick and painless.
  4. So what virus or illness is going around? 2 moaning and groaning in bed with aches, pains and sore throats. I have a sore throat two, but mine has been around due to sinuses. They have fevers. They both are miserable. Praying it skips the rest of the family as the older kids are very active right now. The 2 down have time to spare.
  5. I made every effort to introduce myself and befriend my elementary school bus driver. They were carrying most precious possession. I know what "some" kids are capable of being on the receiving end of some of them. My kids ever show disrespect, you better believe it will be the last time.
  6. been there, done that. I am not an expert, but since it (will be) is a second home, you cannot deduct the mortgage interest, so the rent is considered income minus any deductions such as maintenance, etc. I was just saying that if you are not prepared, a management company is going to issue you a 1099 or similar form to you in next january and you suddenly have an extra (guessing) $10,000 income this year that you will have to pay state and federal tax on. You could also deduct that $50 to $150 monthly "management" fee as an expense though. I don't know your situation, but consider all
  7. yeah, and it is supposed to be 40 on dallas nebo & 45 on bakers bridge. Many those dump trucks are way over the limit -- each direction, loaded or not.
  8. If you have never played landlord before, be prepared for the extra income that will be reported to the irs by the rental management company. You could owe some serious taxes next year if you are not on top of things. Also the fees and contracts are extremely different between these management companies. We have had our best luck using a real estate agent, not a company, to manage our rental properties.
  9. I am sitting here wondering what I would do as a parent if my child called and sounded honestly frightened. Knowing the normal procedures, I am not sure I would go, but I would be making phone calls to verify the situation. If I became concerned enough to go to the bus location, I guess it would depend upon how I actually saw the situation. If I saw the driver attacking children or if there was a fight going on, (basically, eminent danger) I would move heaven and earth to remove my child and anybody other child I felt needed to be "rescued". If I saw yelling that seemed to be escal
  10. I actually agree with you, but my head is telling me that this law can be manipulated to meet their goals. Unless a legal precedent has been set excluding a male going shirtless, they can charge him.
  11. I searched several variations on Snopes and found nothing. If someone finds it on Snopes, can they post a link?
  12. Both my parents had dnr's but also requested to be allowed to die at home. We followed their wishes. I am so very thankful that we shared our last moments together surrounded by love ones in their own home; not heartless, white walls with hospital smells, tubes and beeping machines. My last day with my mom, I took her onto the front porch and she just looked at the sunset. It was the last time she left the house. I am so very grateful we had the option. It would have been easy to place them in a home or allow them to be hospitalized until the end obeying the hospitals rules, see them d
  13. I'm so sorry Mr. Dokey. You and your family will be in our prayers. We love you.
  14. My daughter made certain we go to La Cocina's that day even though we had to order take-out. I was so impressed with the response of the people. The place was truly packed, but the restaurant was handling everything wonderfully. I'm glad we went. I am proud of the community coming together for such a beautiful young woman.
  15. ah, but then it would not be an equal opportunity for everyone to be able to dilute the college degrees to the point where they have become the new high school diploma
  16. Instead of speculating, make a call and speak to an office manager or someone in charge and explain your concerns. There may be something very wrong, or it might be something else such a personal issue affecting his performance that day. Either way doctors are human and see a lot of patients. I, for one may ask your name several times and still not remember you. If something is truly wrong with this doctor, either his office may not be aware of it or aware of the extent of it. Call them.
  17. I glimpse of what I originally thought was a commercial showing his pictures with dates below, ?-2011. I wasn't certain if it represented the length or time he had been in business or something else. It entered my mind he may have passed away. I am sorry to hear that he has. I think he came to Paulding when the Ingle's opened at Dallas-Nebo and Nebo. Same time they had the old truck there. I was impressed that he would visit the "little people" in this way. I am sure he will be missed by many.
  18. My wife she had a baby, Jose, Jose (sp?) My wife she had a baby and it was born in chocolate gravy And the world comes together, Jose, Jose My childhood version of "When I was single" Never thought to look to see if it was a real dish...
  19. I was in the same lane as the crash, with a flashlight. It was before the police arrived, but the front driver still has his headlights and flashers on. The truck saw me, because he initially slowed, then gunned the engine as he passed.
  20. I can see your very valid point. I simply used my arms in a "pushing down" motion. Front the height of the vehicle, I don't see how the person could have assessed the road safely, being it was dark and beginning to rain. Pieces of the vehicles were lying in the "open" lane. I could hear crunching sounds as the tires crunched debris as the truck passed the injured person's vehicle. They were trapped inside. It just seems like the person wasn't concerned for anything other than making it past the accident.
  21. It was around, it just wasn't talked about as much. Now it's on FB, blogs, cellphone texts, tweets.... Back in the eighties, and before, we still had alcoholism, abuse, bullying, depression, loneliness, loss, coping issues, and the lists goes on. It happened. Now add into the mix cyber-bullying, unexpected pictures on the 'net. Probably worse now. Would have to look at the statistics. National figures Dang, wish I hadn't googled it. Talk to your kids and be there for them.
  22. It's dark outside, someone is injured (possibly very bad), debris on the road, people are in the road. Someone signals you to slow down, you speed up and blast past them--past a serious accident. Why? Someone else could have been hurt by stepping in front of your big black truck, you could have hit debris sending it flying into to someone else or damage your paintjob or tires? Add on that you could have hit another vehicle trying to go around from the opposite side. I just don't get people sometimes. Are they that against being asked to slow down, or being told what to do that th
  23. I should giver her an approved list. I would have enjoyed working at the zoo, but too far away. I worked at Warehouse of Hope. Very rewarding experience.
  24. Me too. Heard last night on the news he had been found. I'm glad he is safe and sound.
