  1. Honestly if the part about the fishing buddy being more important than a wife didn't tip you off....oh nevermind
  2. Yup Southerner is more a state of mind. My best fishing buddy (more important than a wife in the redneck handbook) is a Damn Yankee, but you wouldn't know it to talk to him. He's been a Southerner all his life, he just had an unfortunate accident of birth. <J/K about the accident of birth thing for those of you with a chip on your shoulder the size of Bones' home state>

    MLK Day

What is the definition of "observe it"? I personally didn't get today day off but I "observed" it Friday, if you go by the definition that it should be a day of service. If you mean did I watch anything inspirational on TV, then the answer would be no. And I haven't had a paid holiday since 1994.
  4. Lucky. The word "many" is a qualifier that means that I do not believe that all northerners hold the same views. It is in fact a lesser term than "most", indicating that I do not even believe that half of the people in the north hold those views. It is, however, in my opinion and from my personal experiences of 35 years of travel on business a stereotype held by more than a few. I can say, for a fact, that I have personally witnessed it on "many" multiple occasions. You really can't honestly sit there and say that those views do not exist anywhere north of the Mason/Dixon can you
  5. No, actually I was just pointing out that stereotypes exist on both sides of the Mason/Dixon, a factoid that apparently got some here to bow up. But really, if I go to a new place where the people don't know me, the first thing they hear is the accent, and they often, not always, associate that with stupidity. I have heard it mentioned, particularly by some of the workers. Those very same workers are often the ones that screw up because they didn't pay attention to what I asked them to do. If I go back to work with a group I've worked with before, it is not a problem. I went back to
  6. It is amazing to me how many people here on Pcom have absolutely no sense of humor.
  7. Oh please. I have worked all over this country on all types of projects. When I speak to a group of people in New York, or Chicago, or California or Denver, neither my degree or my 35 years of experience make one wit of difference. All the vast majority of the people hear is my accent and they immediately think I'm a backward hick that couldn't possibly know enough to tell them what needs to be done or how to do it. Half the time I have to let them screw something up on their own before they realize that I might just know something more than when to plant cotton or how to rotate the tires
  8. OK, how many of you self proclaimed Yankees will admit to being surprised as hell that we had paved roads and electricity when you got off the plane? Don't come around here with that "it's all about the war" stuff. You have stereotypes of your own.

  10. Dang Ferner. (not misspelled) Not quite as bad as a Dam Yankee Carpetbagger.
  11. I know this must be one of the hardest things you and your family have had to endure. Please know that we recognize your sacrifice and appreciate what your family is doing for this country. America is free not because of the politicians, but because of the soldiers. Thank you and prayers for your family and all of those serving so that we may live our daily lives free from oppression and fear.
  12. CNN has printed a retraction. The Belgian Doctor in charge ordered the evacuation. CNN initially reported, based on conversations with some of the doctors, that the United Nations ordered the Belgian First Aid and Support Team to evacuate. However, Belgian Chief Coordinator Geert Gijs, a doctor who was at the hospital with 60 Belgian medical personnel, said it was his decision to pull the team out for the night. Gijs said he requested U.N. security personnel to staff the hospital overnight, but was told that peacekeepers would only be able to evacuate the team. Doctor ordered evacuati
  13. I would also like to know who has thrown their hat into the ring, and who might be considering a run. PUBBY, do you have any clues?
  14. Media Contact Info Jeffrey Nelson Jeffrey.Nelson@VerizonWireless.com 908-559-7519 01/15/2010 BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Verizon Wireless today transmitted $2,987,560 to the American Red Cross, representing dollars pledged by texting customers to the Red Cross relief effort for Haiti. This represents donations made by Verizon Wireless customers for the first two days of the campaign from 12:01 a.m. EST on Wednesday, Jan. 13 through 2 p.m. EST on Friday, Jan. 15. Verizon Wireless president and CEO Lowell McAdam said, “President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton have challenged the
  15. Anybody but ABC. If I see Diane Sawyer nod knowingly and then look into the camera and tell her adoring fans what this all means to her one more time, I think that I will puke. I agree about CNN and FOX. They seem to be better set up for this kind of thing. The broadcast networks are there for the photo op, in a "me too" approach.
  16. Also a very worthy agency. I was just trying to dispel the false information about the Red Cross text campaign that has been on TV and then posted here.
  17. According to Undispatch.com, the UN Twitter site: UN rejects report that they ordered doctors to leave Haiti field hospital http://bit.ly/7aUTQL CNN.com should correct the story" It appears that local UN security may have believed that a riot was eminent and advised the doctors to leave and to protect the supplies. The UN denies that they were ordered. I agree that had the doctor's stayed, and had they been injured or killed, that the situation would be far worse than them leaving the patients for a few hours. I also think that Gupta was very brave to stay and help. The UN is no
  18. Please continue to give to the relief agency of your choice. But disregard these false reports that there will be a delay in receiving the donated funds from the text messaging campaigns. Initial reports of delays were inaccurate. Expediting donations The wireless carriers have vowed to expedite donations to charitable groups helping Haiti. On Friday, Verizon Wireless said it sent nearly $3 million to the American Red Cross, "representing dollars pledged by texting customers," even before collecting the money pledged by its users. "This represents donations made by Verizon Wireless
  19. Reports that it would take up to 90 days for the RC to get the funds were inaccurate.
  20. The companies have already transferred at least $4.2 Million as of Friday evening, and the US State Dept has guaranteed $1Million more. Reports that it would take up to 90 days for the RC to get the funds were inaccurate.
  21. It was widely reported on Friday afternoon that it will take up to 90 days for the Red Cross to receive donations from the text message Haiti relief campaign. While this is the usual procedure, The US State Department, who helped create the campaign after the Tsunami in Asia, is backing the campaign with a $1 Million immediate loan. Verizon Wireless has also announced that as of Friday, January 15, they had transferred $3 Million to the Red cross relief effort, and will not wait for the usual billing cycle to complete. ATT, Sprint, and T-Mobile are expected to follow suit. All four major ca
  22. The US State Department has backed the donations up to $1 million with an instant loan. They are working directly with the Telecoms and the Red Cross to make sure that all funds are delivered as soon as possible, and may increase that guarantee so that more supplies can be purchased and delivered immediately. Verizon announced Friday that they have already transferred $3 Million in cash to the Red Cross as an advance on the program and will not wait for the billing cycle to complete. ATT, Sprint, and T-Mobile are expected to follow suit.
  23. Shortly after the flood I heard that they were going to have to build a bridge instead of just replacing the culverts. I would put that in the rumor category unless someone from the county can verify. That would explain the delay.
  24. You're on a roll today. And yes, as a matter of fact we did. I expect that most people will find it in their hearts to give what they can, even if it is "just" a prayer.
  25. I liked Coach Johnson's response to the question of which type defensive scheme he preferred. His answer was "the one you can teach and that will be effective. It's not what the DC knows, it's what he can teach the young players" I believe that Groh fits that bill perfectly. But I wish the Dogs good luck every day except the last game in November.
