  1. It is always surprising to me the ease with which employers dismiss and take for granted their excellent employees. In so many environs, the employee becomes the "enemy". I had a start-up company pursue me once with the promise of great return when they got off the ground. I helped them get off the ground, and then they were like, "Oh, we can't keep that promise...it's not going to work." They were honestly surprised when I turned in my notice a few weeks later. GRRR...
  2. They would quickly learn to fear the mere mention of my name. Thank GOD the lady saw him and got him in.
  3. I could not agree more. I'm just shaking my head at whatever bonehead decided this needed to be on the ballot.
  4. Very nice! I have done a big fall display for years and years, but I haven't done one in about three years due to extreme life stressors. I put up a little one this year...just three mums and a little pumpkin. I hope to be back to my regular big display next year.
  5. for the goggies and the EMTs.
  6. You can certainly see why...guy works all his life, builds a company or two up into something decent and likes serving people, and at retirement age (or thereabouts) comes to the place of losing it all. I do hope things turn around. People not paying on account of they don't have the money and are worried about feeding their kids is one thing. People not paying on account of they're deadbeats is another.
  7. Y'all cut NC some slack...she just had surgery and she's got itchin' in places where it ain't good to have itchin'. Pore girl.
  8. I have found all manner of folks to do bidness with because of pcom.
  9. Great minds!!! I thought the same thing! Yes, I love this dude...hey, I don't care if he does maintenance work in exchange for rent...sounds like a fair deal to me (esp. since the landlord approves). Yeah, gotta love this guy on so many levels.
  10. I hate to see a long-standing business run into hard times. I hope things improve greatly. Sam sounds like a very nice guy.
  11. I will say that government must cut taxes AND reduce spending (drastically). I'm still steamed over the $10 million extension of Seven Hills Boulevard...in this economy? To join a 4-lane road to a 2-lane road?
  12. I can't think what would make me move to the City of Atlanta, but I do love that building. And I love lofts built in similar buildings. I'm a country girl, but I might could see myself living in the city if I knew I could escape from time to time.
  13. Good Lord - this thread is still going?
  14. I wasn't being a smart-aleck...I genuinely wanted to know. And yes, I am VERY glad everyone is ok (physically).
  15. I haven't been able to find it on AJC, either. I've looked at a satellite map of the area, and I can't see where they'd need much of a bridge, BUT I'm not a civil engineer, either. That would explain a higher cost of construction.
  16. I'm afraid that might result in a trip to the ER.
  17. The income tax portion for 2010, yes. The payroll and other portion (estate tax, etc.) will apply real-time.
  18. YES!!!!!!! I think anything over $1 million/mile sounds excessive. I'm probably a little bit low there, but $5 million/mile??? NO!!!
  19. :angry2: I am so pissed about this!!! We need an emoticon for exploding heads. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...
  20. Actually, this is the PERFECT time of year to do this, because the air is dry, and the temps are nice and mild. We are doing ours as well right now, and I agree with what everyone else has said. I would add to USE QUALITY STAIN. We are using Behr (Home Depot) Premium Solid Color Stain (looks and goes on just like paint and goes on over other stain, etc.). It has a 25-year guarantee on vertical surfaces, and 10-year guarantee for decks (due to traffic and sun). It's $33/gallon, but I do NOT want to do this again for a very long time. You can get little sample cans for like $3, I think it
