  1. If God didn't create the rules of physics during creation, then who did? (I say that as a believer.) I love thinking about stuff like this, but at some point, my little right-brained mind gets overwhelmed and I have to just put it in the "Things To Ask God When I Get To Heaven" bin. (It's got a lot of stuff in it. ) Great discussion with the little feller, btw. He really does seem to lean heavily towards the creative side of things. I think this could be used effectively. I don't exactly know how, since I'm not a professional, but it really does stand out in all the things you desc
  2. I don't even HAVE kids, and this is true of me. If anybody messes with my nephews, the schools will rue the day they ever heard my name. 20 years hence, the mere mention of it would bring shudders to all involved. Mr. Dis makes excellent points, as former LEO (who is still whining about getting shot in the line of duty which happened a long time ago... ). You'd better believe I'd be documenting and getting to the bottom (no pun intended) of EXACTLY what happened and who was involved and when and what the situation was. I'm among those who would give her permission to defend h
  3. Our parents took this approach with us, and when we became adults, we realized we were best friends with them! Funny how that works.
  4. Great idea. My brother and SIL are doing this with my 15yo nephew...he's a good kid, but he's never wanted for anything, so they are looking at doing projects for homeless shelters, etc., so he can see that not everyone lives the cushy life he lives. And while I don't know your money situation, your daughter definitely lives a cushy life compared to so many others. I know you know that...I was just reinforcing.
  5. My sister has a Highlander with just over 200K miles, and it runs like a top. Still looks great, too. It rides like a car, because it's built on the Camry chassis (IIRC). ETA that my SIL had a 4-Runner and hated the way it rode...much more like a truck and she didn't like that.
  6. Hmmmm. $7,500 seems low for all that. But whatever.
  7. Honey, that's not a sad thing...that's a tough love kind of thing. I loved Jenilyn's response, as a kid who's been there. Kids need boundaries. She's not an adult yet, and she's certainly not behaving like one. My parents didn't put up with crap from us...they always said, "You want to be treated like an adult, then you act like one. Show some responsibility." Absolutely take that phone away. I love the no computer and grounding. RE: BP - The meds will kick in and you should start feeling better. NO DOUBT this is contributing to your BP levels. However, speaking as one who is TOT
  8. I agree with the first part. RE: second part - where did the $40,000 figger come from?
  9. We have a king snakes...one was on the hood of my car one day as I backed out of the garage...'bout scared me half to death! But I just stopped in the driveway and he slithered off into the woods. I love the good snakes.
  10. I've never been there, but they seem to have no shortage of customers. I like La Bamba. Much better than La Parrilla, anyway. Also, I am not a Bentwater Bimbo.
  11. Interesting (said in my best Spock voice).
  12. Was it $7,500 damage or $40,000 damage? Not excusing it either way, but now I'm confused. I personally think the kids should have to clean up every last speck of the paint and what can't be cleaned and has to be purchased, they should have to pay for over time.
  13. RE: dress - adorable! I should think most any color cardigan would work...a pale blue if you couldn't find turquoise? Could you find a blue/brown hat? Or just chocolate hat? (Is the dress chocolate or black? It looks chocolate in the pic.)
  14. Did you see that the footage was from a movie from 1910? WOW...talk about risque' for the time! But I noticed that it's actually an Italian film (according to IMDb), so they were prolly more progressive. Also, I kept looking at her belt thinking is that a noose?...no, it looks more like a lasso... Thanks for the grins, Pubster. Cute.
  15. He had one, but Bob gave it away to a dude who actually had hair.
  16. (in a platonic way, of course... ) Yeah, baby!
  17. Me, neither. Not lookin' to buy one, either.
  18. Yes, and that just hacks me right off. The last time I bought a car from a dealer, I bought new because I was driving long distances to work and as a single woman, I liked the security of a new car (also, like Just Thinkin' Hard, I drive them forever). Anyhoo, the sales dude was BEYOND obnoxious on the monthly payment thing. I had to ask four times before he'd give me the total. The last time, I said, "Listen, if you don't want me to buy a car today, that's ok. I can go across the street." THEN, the finance dude in the back office was even MORE obnoxious about the extended warranty. I f
  19. I did think of you when I first read the story.
  20. IMHO, you can never go wrong with Toyota or Honda. What about a used car a year or two old with low miles? Cuts the cost dramatically. Check out autotrader.com. OH, also Kelly Blue Book (kbb.com), and if buying from a dealer, nada.com (auto dealers assn). The average of those will give you legit prices, AND you can get reviews, etc. Edmunds.com is great for reviews.
