  1. I'm gonna tell Mama Stradial that you said that. You're gonna be in big trouble!!!
  2. This is where private schools differ greatly from public schools. When you enroll in a private school and go through the interview process, it is made very clear that parents are to be active members of the school. If you aren't, youmwont be there very long. In addition to tuition, we are required buy books, supplies, uniforms, and all sorts of other stuff, and we are all expected to be active and supportive of the school. Now I would personally love it if there were a school voucher system that would allow me to move my tax dollars from Paulding to my child's school in Cobb, but that's no
  3. True, but the responsibility of the taxes is taken away. On the bright side, senior citizens are exempt from school taxes at some point - she does have that to look forward to.
  4. Wow girl, we need some dip to go with that chip on your shoulder.... Honestly, this is nothing to get that ticked off about. Your mom made a choice to teach and she makes a choice not to ask for those things. If she wants families in her class to contribute, then she should ask. Of course there are parents that aren't happy about it, but it's not worth having an aneurism over - we have this same discussion every year. And, if you don't want to pay school taxes, sell your house and rent an apartment - easy answer!
  5. No worries - she's in private school. We made that decision when our area of Paulding was re-zoned.
  6. I think for some parents, they choose to drive their kids because it makes the parents more comfortable in knowing where the kids are. For me, it's not an option, I have to drive the princess to school - her school doesn't have buses.
  7. Seriously, can you imagine the uproar on here if Paulding said that they were going to start charging families for either the buses or driving the kids to school.  What if you don't have the money? Who provides the school supplies? I'm curious about this because even when I was in school, parents were responsible for purchasing school supplies for their kids and if we showed up for class without them, we had better have them borrowed before the teacher noticed.
  8. I know - I really don't want to teach my child that it's okay if we share are name-brand stuff with other people, it sends the wrong message...
  9. Because they are trying to keep up with technology, they are trying to pay teachers enough to keep them, they are paying for building improvements so the kids have safe schools, they have to pay for buses to get kids to and from schools, people to drive the buses, people to cook and serve the lunches, and a zillion other things. So, when my princess's teacher tells me that she needs help with school supplies, I'm okay with it and I will gladly purchase it.
  10. My opinion is that if the teacher needs it to help teach my princess, I will make sure she gets it. But, I don't understand why parents feel like they shouldn't be asked to provide their little angels with school supplies. Yes, we pay taxes, but if the schools can't afford books for all of the students, then they certainly can't afford paper, pencils, dry erase markers, wipes, etc.
  11. We just got back - we did a trip to Daytona and Disney last week. We had a blast. Plan to take a night and just walk around the boardwalk, we went to dinner one night at Inlet Harbor - the food was delicious (it's down by the lighthouse). The speedway is there, but I'm not a racing fan so we didn't go there. There is a mall if you want to do something indoors and several go-cart and mini-golf places. They do fireworks at the boardwalk on Saturday night so the boardwalk is crowded. Aunt Catfish's was good and so was Krispy Kreme.
  12. I have to bring the princess in for another visit, hopefully this weekend! She absolutely loved the Nancy Drew books we got last time so we need to grab a few more.
  13. One question: Am I the person on death row? If so, I'm definitely against it.
  14. Fortified Hills Baptist Church on East Paulding Drive (behind WalMart) does a weekly food distribution on Thursday nights at 6:00 p.m.
  15. I have lived in Paulding and worked in Atlanta for over 20 years. Paulding is where I buy groceries and do some light shopping. I choose to leave Paulding because I can get a better selection of what I need in Cobb County or in Atlanta. Restaurants in Paulding are limited and there aren't any fine dining choices that I know of in the county. We even send our princess to school in Cobb County. The people in the county have gotten nicer since we moved her 20+ years ago. For several years, if you had not been born and raised in Paulding County, you were treated like a red-headed step chi
  16. I've used them several times and I've always been happy with them.
  17. ETA: I can also tell you that over 200 documents have been filed in this case, including that Deen's attorney filed a motion for sanctions today because the Plaintiff violated an order from the judge telling them not to talk to the media.
  18. I am very well-versed on complaints in cases. My point is that there is always more to the story that what is in the complaint (and the facts in the complaint are not always true).
  19. An article in the AJC was talking about how the plaintiff's attorney sent a letter to Deen and Hiers telling them to pay her off and go away quietly or he would call a press conference with the complaint was filed. Deen and Hiers are now trying to get that attorney disqualified from the case based on his behavior. The original complaint filed in this case that the OP posted is intentionally one-sided and isn't a clear view of the facts of the case.
  20. I don't know of any that are free, but AquaTots in Douglasville and the West Cobb Aquatic Center both offer swimming lessons.
  21. I think this is a bad idea. My husband works in the mobility industry - driving equipment is designed for specific use. The person in need of the driving equipment is evaluated to make sure that the equipment they need is best suited to their abilities (or disabilities). Putting a random pipe on the left side of your brake pedal may hinder your ability to hit your brakes (or you could hit the gas pipe/pedal by mistake). It may be cheaper, but that's not always better...
  22. Check out Primrose of Oregon Park - the princess loved it there for pre-k. The teachers and staff are kind, loving and amazing!!
  23. I have to find the survey, but if I remember correctly, less than one percent of crimes are committed by people who have submitted to a background check to purchase a gun. Because of that statistic alone, I don't believe tougher background check laws are necessary. They were not at the school when the shooter arrived. If an armed officer had been there, I tend to believe the casualty count would have been a lot lower.
  24. Very interesting! One day, I want to go walk around New Hope Cemetery - my ancestors lived on the edge of the battlefield (although I didn't find this out until a few years ago).
