Mine are 13 and 16, so the birthing bills were paid off a long time ago. What I want to know is at what age can I expect the rest of the bills to stop. Maybe by age 24 I hope? Kids are expensive.

'Virus Scan' is holding my computer hostage
afriendlygeek replied to mperrill's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Both have free and paid versions. The free versions are only to remove infections after the fact, while the paid versions offer active protection to reduce the risk of infection in the first place. SuperAntiSpyware offers a 30 day trial of the paid version. The links to both are here: http://www.superantispyware.com and http://www.malwarebytes.org. Be careful if you get the free version of Malwarebytes as the link will redirect to a third party site that will have advertisements for other products to download. If you are not careful, you will click on a link to download the advertised product -

You may find that the infection blocks the system restore as well. Read the quote below from another post by me for more info: -
I'm so glad you are both okay. Obviously you computer is okay as well. Call me if you need anything.

Thanks Monti! Now I have that song stuck in my head. Maybe we should get together and record an album.

Nope. But the suddenly fat doughnuts work great!

How sad. This breaks my heart.

There was a time that I would have said that FF was absolutely more secure. However, the latest version of IE is much more secure than previous versions and I think it is a tossup now. Having said that, FF is still my primary browser.

I think Toshiba's quality has dropped on their lower end machines. Dell or Lenovo is my preference when it comes to Laptops. As for the processor choice, it really depends on what you will be using the machine for. If you will primarily be using it for internet access and Office documents, just about any processor will be fine just make sure it has a minimum of 2 gigs of memory. If, on the other hand, you want to play the latest shoot-em-up games, you need to spend more.

Along with your AV and Malwarebytes, hit it with SuperAntiSpyware as well. If those three don't clean it up, it's time to format the drive and reinstall Windows. If the programs do find and remove infections, you will still need to watch carefully for the next several weeks for any abnormal behavior. Removing malicious programs is like cancer surgery - if you don't get it all, it will come back. Malicious programs are also like HIV in that the immune system is weakened and highly susceptible to other infections. No one has ever died from HIV, it's always the illnesses that come as a result of

It was great to talk to you. Sorry that I could not respond to your PM sooner but I'm glad you found my number. (My number has not changed in 8+ years). Since last Saturday my phone has rang constantly with 95% of the calls related to infections. This outbreak is particularly nasty and widespread. I'm working 18 hour days and so far have been able to maintain my standard one day turn around time. If you call and I do not answer, leave me a message and I will call you back asap.

Two websites that try to load junk on your computer. I have not been to the sites, nor do I plan to do so.
-
On IE I received a message that two sites were attempting to execute programs: "cpoit.info" and "legup.info". One site is Russian and the other is based in Latvia.

I did not know he was still alive. RIP Mr. Karaoke.

Thanks. I'm going to try to get one this week.

What is the superheat/subcooling method? How will I know if he does this?

She only needs to worry about that if she gets pregnant and has a kid. Kids will take away your creativity, sanity, and several other mental attributes. (I can't believe I said that. Luckily my kids are not on pcom).

Any updates? Does it provide a reliable connection?

It's actually a JEC. Last night was a repeat performance. It worked fine all day yesterday and quit cooling about 11pm last night. I just let the unit run all night anyway in the hopes that it would just blow up and burn down the house. No such luck, but I did find the outside unit off this am with the inside blower still running. I left everything alone and had the tech come out. He said that the stored code indicated that it had stopped because of low pressure. He reset everything and started it back up and it worked normal. He checked all of the pressures and again, all was normal. He h

Your cell phone has more germs than a toilet handle...
afriendlygeek replied to greg30127's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Fecal matter?? What the heck are these people doing with their cell phone. I have heard that germs on a keyboard and mouse are just as bad. -
I did not notice that, but the comment triggered a memory about an older man that refused to buy a color TV. He said that the only thing that he watched on TV was sports and since all of the players were either black or white, he didn't need no stinking fancy color TV.
-
I know exactly what you mean. When I try to imagine what it was like back then, the pictures in my mind are always in black and white. Color definitely makes a difference.

What about at night when cycling the breaker does not help and both the outdoor and indoor units appear to be operating normally? Any thoughts?

I think this is really neat. You rarely see color pictures from this era. The pictures are here: http://blogs.denverpost.com/captured/2010/07/26/captured-america-in-color-from-1939-1943/
