  1. Another perspective: Many of my friends of color get very angry when the gay community uses the claim to Civil Rights legislation. They feel gay rights is a completely different issue from racial discrimination and are offended when gay activists use the term "civil rights." Why does anybody need to know who is gay and who isn't? Most of us really don't care that much one way or the other. A few people are homophobic, but they don't in any way represent all hetero citizens. Using the Civil Rights label, that was hard-earned with lynchings and fear, might be a little offensive. If I t
  2. You are much better off attending a state non-profit university online and not one of the for-profit "universities" like Phoenix or AIU. State schools are a much better bargain and are held to higher standards. Some of the for-profit universities are considered degree mills by some employers.
  3. Some of y'all are harsh. I don't blame the system for having to close the schools (and for making sure it was absolutely necessary), but I still feel badly for the people who had tough decisions this morning. I remember a time when I needed every $20 I could earn. The closing didn't affect most of us negatively, but some people have it a little harder. If someone went to bed early last night and they were in a rush this morning, I can see how they might have missed that 30 minute window of notification between when school was actually called off and when they needed to get on the roa
  4. It would have been better to know this last night. I wonder how many parents went to work today not knowing their kids would be home alone today? I didn't get the call until 8:46. Half of the school employees I called didn't know they weren't going to work yet.
  5. I'm glad they are getting to the "troof." I don't think jail is the right place for these dishonest teachers. They should lose their certification to teach and have to find another career, but not end up in prison. I put them in the same category as people who cheat on their taxes.
  6. I would be PO'd after two hours. Especially if I was low on gas or cold or hungry. Don't even talk to me if I am stuck in traffic and hungry. They should notify people waiting if the road is shut down so people can take an alternate route. I don't think that's asking too much.
  7. [Edited out objectionable slur aimed at mod] Marines fight and die for the freedom to have any opinion they want and to give you the freedom to have your opinion. That's what it says. How dare you question the very people who allow you to post your drivel day in and day out. What does that say about you? That you like the freedom they provide but only if they think exactly like you? Your pretense at an open mind is laughable. Your open door only swings one way. I find the OP's post inflammatory and offensive. I'll take the bullet in honor of the USMC because I know they take the bull
  8. I think this is the most flippant and offensive abuse of pcom popo power I have read lately. I'm sure it was meant to be funny, but it isn't. How many people had to spend their Christmas money getting tires replaced? How many can't make their bills for the month now? That isn't funny to me AT ALL. I spent over $600 for the last set of tires I bought and got a good deal as they were on sale. Truck tires are a lot more. As far as the Christian reference, sin and crime are different. Most people can't avoid a sin every now and them, but most decent people aren't stupid criminals as your
  9. NEVER give an infant ANY type of solid foods, even if it is thinned out. Their intestines aren't ready to digest it yet and it can cause food allergies. Almost all cereals have iron and other things in them the baby can't handle yet. Give the baby time for his insides to start working well. Some babies sleep and some babies don't. If your baby is colicky due to gas, ask you ped if you can try Mylicon drops (along with the rocking in a seated position someone recommended and the baby bicycle).

  11. Take a sleeping pill or you will be up all night googling. You are going to feel baaaaaaaad if it is. Or you may be proud of your prescience.
  12. Ha! They sure do a bunch! I think the APs in this case should get some props, too. They have been holding down the fort and must be doing a good job if there hasn't been any major uproar about it. The ex is deceased now. She can't defend herself, so I'm going to leave that alone. I will say divorce is never fun and usually brings out the worst in people on both sides. I will testify to that.
  13. How are you going to have a turkey sandwich for work the next Monday? Leftovers are the best part. My friends that don't cook get the Honey Baked Hams meal deal. I stopped inviting people over because they won't leave when I want to take a nap. Here's a list of other places serving this year around Atlanta: http://www.opentable.com/promo.aspx?m=16&pid=1 There's always The Smith House in Dahlonega and The Bulloch House in Warm Springs(http://www.roadfood.com/Restaurant/Reviews/2187/bulloch-house). Both are good.
  14. Mmm. I would be asleep after all that. Did you get frost? Is that the last harvest for your garden? It was white as snow over here this morning.
  15. I was reading an article the other day, don't have it handy, that stated texting/social media/reunion sites are cited as a factor in over half of all divorces now. That is pretty sad. If you are going to cheat, though, social media only makes it easier. If you are not going to cheat, you are not going to cheat.
  16. Can pcom break up a marriage? hahahaha I think so.
  17. I'm not thick. OK, a little thicker than I used to be, but not thick upstairs yet. A member kept asking why people were making such a big deal about the cell phone use. I provided a link to show that the news reported ONLY the cell phone usage/harassment portion of the hearing and most of us watched the news report. I suggested she contact the media about their one-note coverage. Hate to say it, but it WAS an issue. Her attorney argued that it wasn't, but he doesn't get the final say. Of course her attorney would try to minimize the importance of it. That is what they get paid to do.
  18. I don't eat other people's chili because most people think chili and spaghetti and other such dishes are a great place to hide cheap ground meat. Gross. Don't put cheap ground meat into ANYTHING. People who buy the ground beef in the roll, without even laying eyes on it, are foreign to me. Don't buy cheap meat, people, buy less meat. Thank you. (surepip's chili sounds fabulous)
  19. You should really watch the news story. They focused mainly on the cell phone and the inappropriate use of school phones for harrassing the ex wife (and the content that was not professional). You should email the news station.
  20. http://www.wsbtv.com/video/25650162/ Can't find the video about the vote.
  21. It was mentioned in the hearing that the principal was placed on a professional development plan to help her fix any problems the board had with her leadership. That is a year-long, civilized process. It was also a huge hint that she should be very careful for a year. I have witnessed several colleagues go through this process. Only one was terminated. The others corrected the behavior or attitude addressed by the PDP plan (or laid low until the admin that didn't like them focused on someone else) and kept their jobs. It's very commendable to stand up for the needs of a student. I admire t
  22. What? This one is supposed to pay off the debt from the last one. It would get paid either way. Bonds are supposed to be paid by property tax that can then be deducted. They are just getting the money a different way, that you can't personally deduct now. I swear, if something says "R" or "education" it is a sure thing in Georgia this year, whether it makes any sense or not.
  23. Now maybe he can buy a date. Ugly dude. I can't wait until you finish paralegal school or the liberal organization who has you on their mailing list is busted as a grow house. You need to have more variety in your postings. You are a broken record. That gets boring. People don't think about what you post anymore, just snappy comebacks.
  24. And how is it denying the schools if the money is just going to be used to pay off debt that we would have to pay either way with our property tax? I hope our first female representative from District 19 makes us proud. Please save me some money, Paulette.
  25. Not with the gas mileage I get. I bet you are one of the few who did the math and didn't just vote "for the children." Let's run numbers again at the end of the first year. Keep yer receipts.
