Everson v. Board of Education (1947) after the Fourteenth Amendment made the First Amendment applicable to the states, the Establishment Clause means that neither the federal government nor a state "can pass laws which aid one religion, aid all religions, or prefer one religion over another."
-
Does it apply to cities or only federal and state governments? I'm thinking cities can do whatever they want. Too bad people can threaten to sue and broke local governments can't afford to defend themselves. (Except for Dallas, which has all the money in the world to spend on surepip's lawsuit. Go figure.)

This thread is mildly racist (promotes stereotypes: black ladies don't age, black ladies look better fat than white ladies, black people don't tan, etc). I don't think it was intended that way, but anytime you make blanket statements about race, you are promoting racist stereotypes. If you have ever seen Starr Jones, you can't say any of this is true. -
The story was misleading. You have to admit that. I'm not saying you wrote the story, I'm sure the reporter did the writing, but the way it was written suggests she is a student at the high school. I don't disagree with all schools having crosswalks (my local high school, EPHS, does, not sure why the others don't). I don't think it is safe to let kids walk on major roads that don't have sidewalks, even if they are going to school. The other details don't really matter, but I also get confused about where the accident happened. I was led to believe it was right in front of the high scho

"To go to and from school, Nadia and those who live near her have to break the law and cross the highway to get there" This is from the news story. Another poster on here said her son goes to school with your daughter at the middle school. To me that is a lie (if your daughter attends PCHS, then I am wrong. If she doesn't, this isn't true.) My post isn't horribly inappropriate, although it may be hard to hear. It may be a different opinion than you hold, but it is just as valid. The entire situation is tragic and horrible and sad and was preventable. I hate seeing kids hurt. It isn't fair

Why do some of you think you can censor the rest of us? If you lie, especially on the news, expect to be called out on it publicly. If you do something irresponsible and try to blame the county or government, shame on you. If you don't like the truth and want to hear only what you want to hear, stay off the Internet and the news and only talk to your friends. How do we expect kids to learn from their mistakes if parents won't? If I were the driver, I would sue for damages to my property and the trauma caused to my children (I think one was in the car) and myself. What a horrible thing

It isn't just rednecks. Don't forget the lady who called the news because her kids had to walk 20 feet to the bus stop and she was too lazy to walk out onto the porch to make sure they were safe. We are turning into a community of shameless whiners who have no concept of personal responsibility. People don't use basic common sense dealing with everyday life then work poor God to the bone praying for him to fix their mistakes. I know that's terrible to say, but why leave the safety of your loved ones up to chance? Take care of your own and nobody else will have to.
-
Maybe if people quit trying to improve Paulding and just worried about taking care of their own kids, there wouldn't be situations like this to complain about. I'm struck by the complete lack of accountability regarding this story by all involved parties. I'm sorry tragedies happen, but if you try to deflect the blame on somebody else, I'm not sure you have learned the lesson you needed to learn to keep it from happening again. I will no longer watch Good Day Atlanta. I know they make up "news" now and they have completely lost credibility. 'Bye Mark and Suchita.

That is brilliant. It is a fair incentive system. I wish my employer did that. Vegetarians who do yoga and don't smoke the herb should get free health insurance.

A government-sponsored study recently estimated that medical spending for obesity reached $147 billion in 2008, almost doubling in the past decade. It’s not surprising. About 32 percent of American adults are obese, a condition linked to diabetes, heart disease, even cancer. As the story above illustrates, obesity can also do a number on your bones and joints. If you want an idea of how big $147 billion is, it’s roughly 6 percent of all health care spending in the United States. How about smoking? Almost 21 percent of American adults are addicted to cigarettes, according to the Center

Pushing Daisies. Loved that show, hated how they ended it. (The polar bears escaped from the Hydra station.)

http://www.kptv.com/video/15359817/index.html I am afraid to say I have lost hope that he will be found alive. I hope he is found. Soon. It's been too long. I think about him every now and then.

Sarum: A Novel of England. I know you like that druidy stuff. Great book. Dune, the best book ever. Movies sucks, but you can't beat the book. I think it is my favorite. Anything by Kahlil Gibran. Favorite Netflix movies: Before The Devil Knows You're Dead (you would swear it is a Tarantino, but it isn't), Objectified (about making things and design, not as boring as it sounds), The Buddha (LOVED IT, very interesting, again will appeal to your druidy side, lol), Quills (period piece about the Marquis De Sade, pretty good), The Boondock Saints (because they are awesome), and Iron Ma

How does a two year old get hit by a train? Seems like there should be more people in jail to me.

I leave an IEP thinking one of two things: "Hmm, it's not the parents." or "Dang! No wonder!" hahaha I usually save the really bad stuff. I figure the parents know. If I feel like the parents have no idea, I can usually dig up a gem. lol.

Aww. That's so sad. I'm glad he found someone to love and love him back. $207 is a decent price for peace of mind. Hopefully biodad will not cause a fuss if he doesn't plan on stepping up for good.

I don't think she was being brash. She was probably just concerned how your daughters might feel if their brother changes his last name from the one they share to his new stepdad's name. I think it is easier and less confusing for younger children to change their name than for older kids, although I see others' point about waiting until the child is old enough to decide rationally. I hope it isn't too expensive to change a name in Georgia: I plan on going back to my maiden name when my little one is out of school.

If this doesn't stir your Heart, Emotionally

Is there any country on Earth not deserving of freedom? When did we turn into a bunch of @$$holes? I missed it, but I know it happened. -
The thought of a newly empty bed still smelling of a child is twisting me up inside. I wish people didn't have to deal with such heartache. I laid with mine a few extra minutes tonight before I kissed her goodnight. Gee~Tee, You have a kind heart and a good soul. I have always liked you. Instead of being snarky to someone else tonight, I decided to appreciate someone positive.

Me, too if you add in busing tables and mopping floors. It makes me appreciate air conditioning and a job that doesn't make the front of my shirt wet now. -

Hahaha. You are an equal opportunity offender like I am. This thread is going nowhere (and totally reminds me of The Real Housewives of Atlanta). I hope our own NeNe and Kim can work it out. lol. -

Who apologized? Some of us don't want to be grouped into the same category as some of the others on here. Some of us (that are well aware of the statistics) are doing something to help and see it as a societal issue, not a color issue. It isn't "their" problem, it is "our" problem. Nobody knows the issues with the black community as well as the members of the black community. How stupid to act like people don't know many of their youth are headed in a dangerous direction. How pompous to pretend the white community doesn't have similar problems. I don't think the OP meant her post to be -

I haven't heard name that in years and years. Are you from California?
