  1. On the off season, I've often put my hunting cams out on our property just to see what's happening when I'm not around. I've been amazed at the critters I've seen
  2. I ordered the upgrade from DSL to Super Uverse yesterday. Scheduled installation is tomorrow afternoon, if I never post again after that, you know I'm still trying to get them to fix the install. Final straw was that my company installed an autobackup to the cloud program on my work PC (I work from home) that has been killing my DSL uplink. With the change, I *should* go from 6 MB down / 512 KB up to 18 MB down, 1.5 MB up. Here's hoping. (but not holding my breath)
  3. Being a cheapskate, I used to hate it when the twinkle light sets went out or wouldn't come on. it used to mean pulling and replacing each light one by one until I found the bad one since I'm too cheap to throw it away and get another. Note that I'm talking about the real bulbs, not the LED lights. (They make an LED tool too, but I've never used it) In this age of pre-lit trees it's even worse, trying to fix a bad set on one of those makes a lot of people just throw the entire tree away rather than try to fix. I've tried a lot of gadgets that claimed to help find the bad bulbs and
  4. Math word problem: If your flock of N birds leaves each morning and N-1 chickens come back home each night and the neighbor has chicken for dinner each night, how long would it take for you to decide you had better keep your chicken on your own property?
  5. What size and where are you? I have a bunch of extra quart size jars I might let go of.
  6. Anybody that tried to work on those power lines I would imagine are dead for sure. Wow. what a mess.
  7. Who do you use for email? That is our issue, my wife has used the Bellsouth.net email address for over 14 years and doesn't want to give it up. If we go with Comcast or some other provider, the Bellsouth address will go away forever unless I pay for some lower tier of uverse, DSL or dial up to keep the account active. DSL is on the way out, AT&T is trying hard to push everyone off of it, I don't know which way to go. UVERSE still has the sucky upload speed of DSL. (A little better, but not much)
  8. I figured it out when I started having symptoms of this: A.A.A.D.D. – Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how is manifests itself: I decide to wash my car. As I start toward to the garage, I notice that there is mail on the hall table. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car. I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the trash can under the table, and notice that the trash can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the trash first, but then I think that since I’m going to be near the mailbox when I take out th
  9. Even a very good brand that is well made can have a part fail early, nothing is perfect all the time. Hopefully this is a one time event for you.
  10. Yea, I signed up with Hotmail years ago and still use that one for my personal address over my bellsouth address.
  11. The newest data I could find was 2012 from the CDC: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/unmarried-childbearing.htm Off the top of my head, we know at least 4 girls my daughters age (around 20) that have a kid, only one was married to the dad (and that came after the birth). Another is living with the boy in his parents home.
  12. For those of you with UVERSE, I assume you are getting your internet through it. How is the internet service? I'm still on DSL and the Service level is sucking BIG Time. I'll have 5-10 second delays in web sites opening sometimes, like network interface ports are severely overloaded. I'm wondering if AT&T is throttling the bandwidth available to DSL to try to push people onto UVERSE so they don't have to maintain multiple networks. So I ask if UVERSE acts the same way. My wife has had her Bellsouth.net email addresses for 16 years now and doesn't want to change it, or I'd mo
  13. Dang, makes me happy that one of the candidates i voted for actually help people!! Woot!
  14. Could have used that last year. With the neighbor's thick trees, it took days for our lower driveway to clear. Ended up shoveling it and the then melting snow from the roof formed a sheet of ice.
  15. Interesting question. I need to ask Dad if he has discussed that with his insurance company. He started with used panels that he got cheap, but at this point about 1/3 of them have failed and had to be replaced. Interestingly, the replace panels with the same ratings are half the size of the old ones.
  16. After years of freezer on top, wife wanted a side by side so she could have an ice dispenser on the door. I absolutely hate it. The big wall in the middle seems to kill a lot of storage space. The narrow access to both sides makes it hard to find anything. I end up taking any wide items like Pizzas down stairs to the other freezer. Oh yea, and this GE design sucks. I've already had to replace the entire Icemaker dispenser/bucket ($200 for parts, I replaced it) and the water dispenser tank and hose ($40 for parts, I replaced it) in just 7 years. Now the water dispenser is freezing up
  17. Thanks Mei Lan. Hope to have a good watching season again! I think I heard that the other nest is way out in the wildlife area, so no hope of monitoring it.
  18. if they claim its a "reality" show, I'll know it's nothing near reality.
  19. Dad got into it when the government was giving big tax breaks for people to do it, so he recovered a lot of his cost that way. It's a high efficiency home, so in the winter he does quite well off the panels. His system does a direct conversion to AC and then the controller will either mix it with incoming power if the house is using more, or is set up to pump power back into the grid when he doesn't need it. Cobb EMC has put on a dual meter that measures in both directions. He basically uses the grid as a very low loss AC battery. (His was the first set in Cobb EMC's territory, it t

  21. Thanks Pubby - great story to read and I especially like it not being a video only story.
  22. Once again a site goes with flash over functionality
  23. My son has been getting flyers from the Republican party saying they know he hasn't early voted yet and asking him to do so (for their candidates of course) I thought that early voting returns were supposed to be sealed until election day. It concerns the heck out of me that the parties know who has voted and who hasn't. It's not far from that to knowing who you voted for....

Also wish I'd found out about it earlier, I'd taken a day off to go by there.
