  1. A few months ago, started getting calls from a strangely named Caller ID. I don't answer what I don't recognize, so we let it go to voicemail, but they never left a message. This went on for several weeks and I finally got tired of hearing it ring and answered the phone. Turned out to be a collection agency for my daughter who is at college and *has* no cards or loans. Long story short, found that she had gone to an instant clinic in Blairsville when she had the flu at school. We never got a bill for it because the hospital assocated with the clinic has a billing service that is m
  2. Kinda wish our government would go ahead and buy the replacement oil for the national reserves while it's cheap. I hope they are doing that.
  3. Have you unplugged all but one phone inside, then add the others one by one? It may be a combination of two phones.
  4. Oh yea, still trying to figure out who the Fed is working for, talk about an *unelected* body with *way* too much power....
  5. <RANT> OK, ATT offically sucks. I qualified for an award card by converting to Uverse. I got my letter today about it. My 30 day service requirement won't pass until 1/11/15. Then they have to process and mail the award card to me. Then the dang thing expires on 1/30/15. Wow, I get an entire freakin' week to cash the card!! IDIOTS. </Rant> At least I haven't had any issues with the service yet. (Crosses fingers with the rain) Edit: OK, maybe I misread it and the ability to *claim* the reward is what expires within two weeks. Hope so, bec
  6. Besides, the economy has been boosted by 2 years + of flooding the market with low interest money borrowed from the Chinese or created out of thin air. This is not a good thing. The market going over 18K is not a good sign, because of being caused by base strenght in our manufacturing and jobs that create value, I believe that it is caused by there being too much free cash running around after too little stock. This is the beginning of the inflation wave. Just wait until it crests. Then a Republican will have to take the blame for fixing it, just like the 20% mortage rates in the 8
  7. Oh heck no. Most republicans are just as owned as most of the democrats.
  8. Figures can lie, liars can figure. I wouldn't trust *any* stat out of Washington, no matter who gave it out.
  9. Not sure which is better, but I sold my last junker (95 Grand AM) to the Quality Tire Service in Dallas. They came and picked it up and paid cash there. In my case, me not having to tow it anywhere was worth it.
  10. If you have flood light mounts outside, motion detector units might do wonders. Nothing like being lit up and back lighted when you are trying to sneak up on someones house.
  11. Many auction houses and other businesses deal only in cash. Purchasing at government auctions often requires cash. I've paid cash for a used car before, much easier than dealing with the seller worrying if the check is good or dealing with driving to my bank so HE can cash my check for cash. Point is, there is no law against carrying legal tender. If it is confiscated with no cause and no charges and no way to get it back, it's wrong.
  12. As long as you can get to the cloud, the cloud is great. However, there have been several instances in the last year where the cloud providers have gone off-line for extended (several hour +) periods of time. If you are cloud based, then no cloud = no work.
  13. I'd like to vote more more high paying manufacturing jobs here, but neither party seems to be for that option. Raising the minimum wage without raising the value of the work done by the worker is a useless path, it just dumps the burden of assistance on the hiring companies rather than the government (by forcing them to pay more than a job is worth) and encourages the company to find ways of removing the employee completely to dump the burden back on the government. Low end jobs should be stepping stones to higher end jobs, unfortunately, the high paying blue collar jobs have been exp
  14. Happy? No, not happy about any of them though perhaps understanding of some of them. If the reduction in the WIC program were arbitrary, i.e., not based on reduced need, then that's not the answer either. As mentioned, somehow we need to get control of fraud, those who work for cash then claim aid, etc. Not quite sure how the Govt could do that however. Otherwise, we need a program that works towards making these people self sufficient, not dependent. Bailing out the banks, for sure no. At least not and keep the same management. Need to knuke the top oh, say 5 layers of managem
  15. http://www.census.gov/content/dam/Census/library/publications/2014/demo/p70-139.pdf http://www.cnsnews.com/commentary/terence-p-jeffrey/65-percent-children-live-households-federal-aid-programs Whether you argue that it's needed or not, this clearly seems to be unsustainable. When over half of the population is receiving funding forcibly taken from a smaller group (or worse yet, borrowed with no ability to pay it back), you have a model that just won't survive. It's sad when I think that none of my kids will ever be able to live any better than they have already because of
  16. Your check engine light's on. Come into my office, now! It's just a small leak. Washington can solve the problem.. The IRS knows your name. We are related to stradial.
  17. Not bad. Upload of < 10% of download sucks, but I expected it. I did get 2.0 earlier in the day. I'm for now.
  18. Whew. Other end of the county, I'm at Dabbs Bridge RD and 61. I'll have to see when I'm next headed that way.
  19. If you have the 12/1.5 service it's very good. If you have the 18/2 service, then you overpaid. Going to be interesting to see what I get. As usual, the tech is running late, supposed to be here in the next 20 minutes or so.
  20. I looked at that, but it seemed that they would change it to a yahoo address even if you kept the same account. Do you have a pointer to a page on how to keep the address? Agree big time that getting rid of their mail servers was a mistake.
  21. I was able to set it to not use 100% of the upload capability (somehow it determines what the available upload is) and set it to only backup at night which helped. As well, I can see that DSL is on the way out for AT&T, I figured I might as well switch while they were offering incentives. Braggart. I seriously thought about going Comcast, but as I mentioned before, my wife doesn't want to give up her 13 yo Bellsouth email address. This is a year contract, if the Uverse continues to lag, I'll have to consider going to comcast and she'll have to deal with the address change
