  1. A good point. I've begun to feel that those who most insist that everyone should agree with their concept of how life should be lived, sexuality, etc, are those that are most insecure in their own choices. It requires an ability to accept what I am *and* ignore others that can't accept what I am to truly be happy. As Richard Bach wrote in "Illusions" : " If your happiness depends on what somebody else does, I guess you do have a problem." As George Shaw said: "I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it."
  2. Good point. Too many thing they should get a paycheck for showing up. They don't understand that you have to be able to *do* the trades to make yourself worth the big bucks that expert plumbers/steelworkers/etc get.
  3. You know, I look at this and the Jenner situation and I see an issue with our society that roles are so locked to biological truths for us that you have people like these two get totally mentally bent by it. You have Jenner, who wanted with all his heart to act in a feminine way, yet feels that as a man, he can't do that, but needs to try to "convert" to a woman to act as he wants. Why? Here you have a white woman, who I read in one article was so embarrassed by the racism she saw in other white people that she feels she must "covert" to a black person to separate herself from them.
  4. Construction business going to have another kick around here. We're trying to get a small addition (100K) built onto our church, can't find anybody interested in doing a job that small, everyone we talk to is swamped.
  5. Guess they figure the money won't be worth much if the world has gone to carp that badly, so might as well be as ready as possible. Any US citizens better have a lot of warning to get over there before lockdown.
  6. Sweet. That would work with it being on sale. You are tempting me!
  7. LOL! Looks like fun. Not sure I'd plunk down $40 for it, but still, it does look like fun!
  8. Hey, if they are going to let a guy convert himself into a woman just because he "feels" more like a woman, then why can't a white woman "feel* black? Heck, I think I'll "feel* unemployed even with my job and apply for benefits on top of my paycheck. No problem with that is there? Or maybe "feel" retired so I can start collecting Social Security. Doctors will treat me for free if I "feel" I have coverage right? Or "feel" that ISIS is a bunch of misunderstood loving people and invite them over for tea. OMG - When will the Freaking madness stop. There is reality and then there
  9. Great plane, but I suspect it was unloaded, and that means it was running at half of it's maximum takeoff weight. You can do some pretty spectacular stuff when you have that thrust to weight ratio available.
  10. I can't imagine the pain of having a loved one missing. Hope he's found soon safe.
  11. Animal control used to have some traps for loan, but if they didn't mention them, they may not any more. if they are wild cats, you may need traps big enough to make them feel safe going in. Something like this: http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/catch-and-release-live-animal-trap-32-in-x-10-in-x-12-in or http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/havahart-2-door-cage-raccoon-trap/pid-30261?N=29836296 I bought a Havahart small animal trap, I found it best to put the bait under the trigger for it, when the animal tried to dig it out, it lifted the trigger and BAM. However, s
  12. I lost graduating with honors my last quarter of high school. Completely my fault, I had 5 A's and an F. The F was because I had a major case of Senioritis and didn't want to do the work.
  13. Oh I agree with what you say. When there were no labor laws and the union was required to counter balance the pure capitalism of the owners, the unions had a place. However, from my POV, once the government created all the laws to protect workers, for the most part, the unions lost much of their worth, so they began to try to justify their existence and moved into pushing wages way beyond the going rate and protecting those that didn't need to be protected just to keep the union jobs alive. It's kinda like the political parties, neither the company nor the union is looking out for the
  14. He's an idiot. I'd like to think it's an anti-gun person trying to turn public opinion away from safe carry laws, but I know better. He's an idiot that somehow thinks this is "protecting" his rights. <sigh> While I believe in the right to carry arms, I think the stupidest part of that law was the blocking of police from asking to see the carry permit. When something like this happens you really want to be able to see that they did indeed pass the mental health background check. What's to keep someone *with* harmful intent from walking straight in and the cops can do nothing?
  15. Having had a Father in law who was in the mechanics union for many years, I've heard both good and bad about them. The mechanics union saved his job one year where the boss had misunderstood a situation and though that my FIL was stealing parts from the shop and fired him. FIL tried to talk to him, but the boss didn't want to talk to him to hear the entire story. FIL went to the union and the rep went in and forced the management to look at the evidence and cleared him. Unions can have a place in making sure that justice is done, though I agree that now a days they will often fight for
  16. Anybody seen an update icon on 8.1? I'm wondering where it would show up...
  17. Just about any software that ends in "x.0" is a bad idea. You become the Beta testers. I'll wait for 10.02 or 10.1.
  18. Just looked at the sales in the neighborhood in the last year, this may be an option for me. Only one house has sold for more than my value and it was a highly decorated home with in-ground pool w/solar heater in a cul-de-sac.
  19. Do you want full service (cut it up and haul it off) or just get it down (and maybe cut up?)
  20. Got the tax assessment form today. It's official, the recession has passed according to the assessor's office, our house is now valued 6.9% higher than it's previous peak in 2008, up 16.52% from last year. Holy CARP!! If the rates are left the same it's going to be a heck of a budget hit for us. Of course since the escrow has been set at last year's rate all this year, I'll actually end up paying the underpayment for this year *plus* the adjustment for next year *plus* the increase in the reserve that the $%$#@#@!D!! bank keeps for no good reason, so figure my payment will jump $150
  21. Because the builders and developers in the county have "convinced" the county officials to get the offices they want to visit on the bottom floor.
  22. Great, so the idiots are willing to drop the county reserves to unacceptable levels, so they won' t have to deal with meetings with us pesky tax payers. Then the interest we pay on any bonds (like say, the bonds needed to pay for airport improvements) will go up since we'll be a higher risk with low reserves. Why not just pull a Jerry and use half the rollback and then call it a tax cut. Then no one shows up at the meetings anyway.
  23. I first saw live ones at Dollywood in the Eagle restoration area. They are huge birds. The eagle show talked about how many of their eagles were there because of gunshot wounds. I'm a hunter, but I can't imagine why anyone would take a shot at such a magnificent bird!!
  24. As long as they have guaranteed funding from the county to pay their salaries, why work? They have 10 years of the county being their sugar daddy thanks to Dave and his boys.
