  1. I'd like to have *one* good storm, (my definition of a good storm is it snows Friday night and is gone by Sunday afternoon ) We haven't had a real snow here in years. This "near miss" stuff is driving me crazy.
  2. Joined in April 2004, but had been reading for about six months before. I'm an addict at times, mainly when elections come around.
  3. I was in New Jersey this week and watching TV was LMAO at the pictures of lines at the grocery stores and empty shelves for milk and bread!! Of course, others have different priorities, heard on the radio that the liqueur store had a line 8 deep waiting for them to open Friday morning.
  4. Oh, that is some serious bad luck!! I hope he recovers quickly. Is he a senior? My daughter tore her ACL in a soccer game last May, had surgery in June, missed the entire season of club ball and was just cleared to begin playing again (in a $1600 brace) in December. I share his and his mom's pain at missing the season. Hope all heals well!!
  5. Well, if it's an automatic, I have to say I've had bad luck with a independent shop (now closed) rebuilding them. The shop vanished just before BOTH of the transmissions I let him rebuild (to the tune of $4500) gave out again six months later. I later found a factory rebuilt installed was about the same price as what he quoted me. I had Chevy put one of theirs in and it's been running great ever since. YMMV
  6. Acworth post office took mine. Don't remember the cost.
  7. Cyberdefender seems to be a legit program from what I saw when I googled it. Did you load it or have someone work on the computer recently? It seems like windows is asking if Cyberdefender can fix something it's seen. Strange...
  8. It is if you want to them to help fund your campaign!!
  9. LOL Beach. You know from our other conversations that I would have a problem with any party I tried to join since I tend not to follow the party line and will call out other members of that party I disagreed with. And without party funding now a days, a candidate doesn't have a chance even in a local election. However, if I ever win the lottery and can run independently,... look out political world. What I have to do now, is do more to influence the candidates we do have. With the kids growing up, I hope to find more time to do this. I'm learning that we all have to tak
  10. I looked at the schedules on the Secretary of State website, but there is not one for a special election in Feb. I found these general rules: So it looks like 2 weeks before the election. But they can go a week over that with no fine, and it looks like the fine is only $25 up to the date of the election, and only $75 if you go past the election. So I doubt we'll see any reports. Don't you love toothless ethics laws? State filing Schedules
  11. Unless you sign up for fixed rate, you are usually on a month to month that is based on the spot rate for gas which can jump around even more than gasoline. I am on a fixed rate plan with Walton EMC. 12 months. You can check out all of this months spot rates and fixed rate at the Ga PSC where the marketers are required to submit their rates. Jan 2010 PSC gas rates I used the PSC site to determine who I would use. Good luck!
  12. Oh, I agree that the school board played their part... my biggest gripe was that they were proposing the bond before any of the schools promised for the SPLOST several years before were even started and threatening us with double sessions at the same time. However, with them stuck with a BOC that loved developers and state representatives that didn't care, they only had two legal options that they alone controlled: Raise the money for new schools through a bond/base tax rate or let the schools go to double sessions sooner or later. Do you see another option they had that did not requir
  13. Do the power locks work at all? If not, check the fuse for the locks. Otherwise, you might check the manual and see if the keyless entry module is on a different fuse and make sure its ok.
  14. You sound like the guy who recommended mulching Kudzu with Concrete blocks!!
  15. Depends on where you are and if the technician has a clue if you have a problem. My DSL is 3.0 mbs and is rock solid now (after 3 techs). While the first tech was here we tested and my modem would sync up to 10 mbs, much higher than any service they offer. (I think 6 mbs was the highest when I last looked) However, if you are more than a 1000 ft or so from the DSLAM, your speed may vary greatly. I'd ask around and see if any neighbors have it around you, it will give you a better idea of how well it works in your area.
  16. Yea, my outdoor thermometer has dropped from 33 to 30 in the last hour. Any water out there will be ice by morning...
  17. Beach and I may not get along at time, but that is uncalled for. IMHO
  18. Hi LPPT - I know it would be extra work, but any chance of Pubby or whoever, doing a printed summary of the news or interviews when they come out? I know Pubby loves video and all... but some of us just don't want to spend 20 minutes churning though it for the one or two tidbits we want to know... Thanks.
  19. I was against the $200 million dollar bond and I agree with most of the above post, but have to state that this problem cannot totally on the school board or even the county commissioners, the state law causes it's share of the problems also. The Impact Fee law that Georgia has is very close to unusable, it places many restrictions on the use of the fees that have serious drawbacks. Cherokee is one of the few counties I've heard of that even tried to use it. I felt during the bond campaigns, and still feel, that the proper solution should have been a smaller bond, with Speaker Glenn and Se
  20. Well, got home from Jersey and the bill was here... Went up about 25%, $150 to $200. However, we are Gas heat and water... so if *that* bill goes up 25% it will be scary.
  21. I doubt the KY house is as insulated as your Michigan house was. I'm still waiting on my Gas / Power bills, but I built this house to higher standards with 2x6 outer walls with R-19 instead of 2x4 outer walls with R-13. Plus had a foot of blown insulation in the attic. The builder thought I was an idiot ("You are wasting 4 inches of your house"), but the summer my next door neighbors house had a $400 power bill, mine was $240 and I keep the bedroom end of the house at 75 degrees just to keep it running enough to dry out the air. The furnaces did run a lot last month, but I'm hoping
  22. Unfortunately, weasel words like that are part of every credit card contract. When you accept the card, you accept the terms. If you really want to be depressed, read everything you signed for your mortgage. Most of the time you will find you signed away every legal right you have to the loan and the house. They can demand total payment of the loan on your house if they just *think* you might miss a payment (or any other reason). As I recall, I also found I signed away the right to multiple notifications of foreclosure. It's a old sayin, but the devil is really in the fine print.
  23. Interesting... NOAA shows a low of 26 with snow Friday night, Weather channel shows low of 33. Should be interesting to see who's right.
  24. Yes, I have noticed it. The day I was there, one of them was pulling a copper power cord off of a appliance that was dropped off. If it's part of a county program to recycle, then I don't have a problem with it, if it's a free lance operation, then I do. I don't usually take regular trash up there anyway, it goes in the big truck and I'm sure it's smashed to unreadability by the time it gets there. (If I haven't shredded it)
  25. All of the above and worst case is like our house, the lights in the bathroom flickered for a while then went out. Found that I had a bad connection in the overhead box, it had overheated and burned the wiring completely up. We were lucky it didn't start a fire. Also look in the kitchen, outside outlets, garage outlets, basement outlets near doors, laundry area, and all the other bathrooms for a tripped GFI box. It appears they used to be much more expensive than now, my daughters bathroom outlet is controlled by an GFI outside.
