  1. Your "boy" ROCKS!! I am so proud for him, and for you! To Lucky--it's not called "tough love" because it's easy. Teen years are tough, but so are parents who care!
  2. We gave my daughter a car. Not traditional, I know, but she'd driven a clunker all through college...she LOVED the car, and still drives it now, in Los Angeles, as she drives to and from symphony practices and performances she gets to enjoy because she worked her tushie off to do so well in school. It made all of us happy to give her that car.
  3. First off, YAY for a date, AGG!! And kwood...my first was much like yours...failure to progress with the first delivery and a second delivery by scheduled c-section 19 months later. Like I'm sure you feel, I felt it wasn't worth the risk to try the VBAC. BUT...2 1/2 years later, I had my third by VBAC. It was great to "accomplish" that, but having done it both ways, the c-section recovery was in some ways easier than the VBAC recovery. Seriously. Best wishes to you both! No matter how they arrive, it's still a beautiful event!
  4. I have no idea why I can't get the YouTube video to post in the thread.
  5. Henryville High School was devastated by the tornadoes that blew through the town in early March. Lady Antebellum was holding a contest, the winners of which would enjoy having the band play at their senior prom. To enter, the schools were invited to submit a video explaining why their school should be chosen. The students at HHS's rival school, Silver Creek, submitted a video on behalf of the students of HHS, asking Lady A to play at the HHS prom. And HHS won from that video!! Unfortunately, Lady A had a pre-scheduled concert scheduled for the actual date of the prom, so inst
  6. There is nothing offensive about the historically accurate question. The ones earlier this year? Those were offensive. This one? It's just not an offensive question. It's based in historical FACT. The facts aren't pretty, but neither is pretending they aren't what they are. How is someone "culturally sensitive" if they skirt around the ugly things in history? Is it ugly to ask questions about the number of Jews annihilated by Nazis? No...it's considered an historical fact, and asking the question highlights the magnitude of the atrocity.
  7. Learning that lasts isn't compartmentalized into neat little categories like "math" and "science" and "social studies." Learning that matters is contextual, and crosses all categories. Knowledge isn't subject-specific. History is only interesting if it's made relevant to the present. If the history isn't beautiful...there's lessons in that. And they should be taught. It's not culturally insensitive to be honest about history anymore than it is to be honest about science or language. I have no problem with the question.
  8. My heart aches for you, PcsCharli, for what you have been through. It's hard to raise kids into adults, even when everything goes as it ought to go, and even harder when there are bumps in the road, which is the most I've dealt with raising my kids. That's not to diminish how difficult the problems seem when they are your own to deal with, but what you've dealt with is extreme, and my Mommy heart hurts for you. Mr. Dis--I don't have much to offer. I've struggled some with my sons and have wondered often if what I chose as either treatment or punishment was what was best for them, but I
  9. I went to my CU this morning, signed an affidavit for each disputed charge, and had the $$ (totaled $620--another charge came through this morning) immediately replaced to my account. The guy at the CU said it's now between the thief and the businesses that took the fraudulent charges. It's all done on my end now, as far as I know. He did say that most places don't pursue it because, unless a single charge is really large, it's not cost-effective for them to pursue it. I can only hope it pi$$es off the folks at the Race Express in McDonough--there were three charges there alone.
  10. My answer would be... NO!!!! There's non way that whoever jacked my card would know those three numbers. It didn't stop them from jacking my account. I honestly don't know when and where this happened...but it is definitely LESSON LEARNED for this girl. It truly $UCKS to have to rearrange what you do because there are folks out there who will intentionally take advantage of your trust, but once someone does, you can't really ever go back to how you did things before they did. I really hate it. But I'll evolve...the alternative isn't really an option.
  11. Do you (or does anyone) know how they hijack numbers from an online purchase? I also made a purchase on Amazon.com on the 10th, but the purchase was a kidney diet food for my kitty, and the purchase went through Amazon to Pet Food Direct...I thought all of that was secure? Since these purchases were fairly local for the most part, I'm thinking I must have fallen victim to a skimmer of some sort...
  12. Hold down the Ctrl key and click the - key until the page fits your window. You can resize it up by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking the + key the same number of times you clicked the - key to make it smaller.
  13. Thanks! And to everyone else, thanks also. It's just a hassle, and as was said earlier, it feels invasive. lowrider--I've probably checked mine 10 times just TODAY!! I'm just hoping the last of it has come through and they've discovered now that they can't rob me any more.
  14. Thanks! That makes sense. We don't have a basement, and it's a concern for me when we have severe weather.
  15. Those look really neat! How does the person who parks the car over the shelter get in with the rest of the family?
  16. It looks like a Cedar Waxwing to me. See here.
  17. Sorry, I realized after I answered exactly what you were asking. Maybe over the next weeks, a pattern will emerge. One difficulty with that is that, though I live in Cobb, I'm closer to Hiram than anything else, and so I do most of my shopping there. But, I had to report the "crime" to Cobb County. I will call next week and let the officer who took my report know to consider Paulding as a possible point of origin. Unfortunately, he made it sound like, though they know this is a HUGE problem, the individual crimes are in small amounts, and while they try to trace them, there's not a whole l
  18. I bought a nice corned beef brisket at Aldi for $2.99 a lb. It's been cooking slowly in the crock pot all day with onion quarters. A while ago I added the potatoes and carrots. Here in just a bit, I'm adding in the cabbage. It smells DIVINE!! Happy St. Patty's Day, everyone!!
  19. No, they can't pin down an area, unfortunately. I had 5 fraudulent charges on my account (well, actually, 6--the first one, and the one that tipped off my bank, was for $1 at a RaceTrac in Jonesboro. This one was the one they used to see if the charge would go through. It just didn't add up until the charges started coming in from all over the place). The other 5 were all over the place: one at a vacuum cleaner place in VA for $109.63, one at a flooring store in TN for $125.74, one at a hair salon (?!?!?) for $151.25 in Dublin, TX, one at a Quick Pic in Jonesboro for $55.17, and two at a Race
  20. Thanks. I had to cancel the card (and will have to wait for a new one), and in order to get the $$ returned, I had to file a police report. After I get the case #, I have to send a letter to my bank (GOCU) that includes the case #, disputing each fraudulent charge. The bank does an investigation and sends me an individual affidavit for each charge when the FDIC returns the funds to my account. I have to sign and hand-deliver each affidavit to a branch of GOCU within 10 days of receipt, or the money is removed from my account (I forfeit the return). So...not something I can't do...but defin
  21. Over the last few days, transactions have been made on my debit card that I did NOT authorize nor initiate--in the amount of just under $600. I have no idea when or how someone got my info--I shop in the same places all the time with almost no variance, but SOMEWHERE, someone accessed my information and went on a mini spending spree. Though I doubt it has anything to do with them and I DO NOT wish to create a panic, the ONLY "new" transaction I have had since the 10th of this month (when the first fraudulent charge was made) was at the new Aldi in Hiram. I also shopped there on the 10t
