  1. Way to go Hiram! Nice job taking care of Sprayberry. I'm an East momma and it will be an honor to play you guys next week! Looking forward to a great game of football between two great schools next Friday night at the Boneyard!
  2. I second the NO SNAKES! Haven't seen one yet, but I'm scared my dogs will dig one up every time I walk them. They like to play in the piles of dead leaves and I just know there are snakes hiding out under there!
  3. The intoxicating aroma that tantalizingly drifts from a freshly carved pumpkin. The crisp sound bursting forth from a bite into a bright green Granny Smith apple. That first golden leaf spied twirling in a soft breeze. The sharp bite of a hot cup of spicy cider.
  4. I thought my mom was the only person who did this! She recleans any hotel room she stays in and refuses to take her shoes off. I honestly used to not think about it too much when I was younger, but as an adult I start getting creeped out thinking about what has probably gone on in the bed at some point. Yuck!!!
  5. My son plays for East 7th grade team and our next home game is this coming Saturday at EPHS against Rome. It is supposed to be our toughest game. So far we are undeafeated. The 7th grade plays at 9:00 and the 8th grade following our game. Both teams are great!
  6. My 15 year old daughter and 12 year old son both have the same issue with odd numbers. Radio dial has to be on an even number, when I pump gas they beg me to end it on an even amount, it even bothers them if they are eating pizza rolls and there is an odd number. They will throw one away first. It's very "odd" to me, but otherwise they are very normal, healthy kids with no other compulsive issues.
  7. I don't know all the exact details of it, but we played District and since we didn't win enough we were put in the State "B" bracket. We did not finish in the top two at state but still went on to the world series. At that point I felt like we were paying to play so we didn't go. At the World Series there were different brackets as well based on wins. I always thought it was just the top couple of teams in each age group that went and played for the title. I'm probably telling it all wrong and someone will correct me. I'm not the most knowledgeable baseball parent on earth, but in our
  8. I know that last year my son's team went to the World Series and we didn't win either District or State. We chose not to go, but I think as long as you pay you can play in the B bracket World Series. To me that turns it into just another tournament and not something you earned the right to play in. To play in the A brackett you had to have won at State I think. Hey, I found it nuts we could play at State when we didn't win District but we did.
  9. Wow! With the cooler fee and higher adult charge it will cost me nearly $20 to take the kids to the pool. That could add up quickly. Even with a pass I guess you'd still have to pay the cooler fee. I like being able to bring drinks in for the kids. They get very thirsty and if I bought one at the concession stand every time I'd go broke. There may be way fewer pool visits for us this summer
  10. Will most insurance companies send you the money? That would be great, but I have a feeling ours would say no. Did they just make the check out to the orthodontist and you turned around and gave them the check?

I remember when I was in high school going on 20 years ago now, there were mom's that took their kids to PC for Spring Break, bought the alcohol and encouraged the raunchy behavior. Heck the mom's acted as bad as the kids did! I'm sure that's the same today with so many parents trying to be their child's "best bud". When we hit the teen years I started out trying to remember how I felt as a teen and tended to give into things a little more than my parents did. It didn't take me long at all to figure out that my child has no more idea of what is good for her than I did as a teen. Thei
  12. Thank you! We are going to go for a consultation. I've found that price varies greatly just in this general area. When my daughter was ready for her braces we visited three separate orthodontists. We were given three different prices and three widely varying treatment plans. We went with the least expensive and her teeth look fabulous! Price doesn't always mean something is better.
  13. We are in the process of finding an ortho for my son. We used Dr. McClendon with my daughter and adored him. But, I've been seeing the ads for Orthodontic Care of Georgia and was wondering if anyone had ever used them and what their experience was. They offer a no down payment plan and payments of $89-$99 dollars a month. I called today and got some information and they seem really nice. The only upfront money is $99 for records and your first month's payment. The total fee is based on what your child's case calls for and includes retainers. I know when we used Dr. McClendon we pay

Beyond the question of is it right or common the most glaring thing to me is it's ILLEGAL! Why would any parent risk jail time to make their kids birthday a smashing success? My daughter will be 16 this fall and we are doing the 16th birthday package at the skating rink. We'll have the entire place to ourselves with a DJ. She's excited. Cheesy? Sure. What she wants? Exactly! Will her friends enjoy it? Who cares. It's her party and she can plan what she likes as long as it's legal and safe. I am far from naive and I know that she will be in a situation sooner than later where
  15. I just had to share the great experience I had today. After stopping to get gas on the way to pick up my child at school I discovered I had locked the keys in my car. I became pretty upset because it was close to carpool time. A gentleman pumping gas next to me asked what was wrong. He told me he could bend a wire and pop the lock for me. He dug around in his tool box and pulled out wire, pliers, rubber door stops, a screwdriver and a rag. I commented that he must travel prepared and turns out he was a certified locksmith. Talk about God putting the right person in the right place! Ama
  16. Yes, please share on how to remove your washer from septic. Five people here as well and I wash a LOT!
  17. Those people who tease you about stockpiling would be the LAST folks to borrow a pencil or pack of paper from me!
  18. Hmmm, been there done that when I was a senior and my children WILL NOT go! I have nightmares about how invincible my friends and I thought we were. If I even thought my daughter or sons might be as reckless I would have a heart attack. And since I'm not stupid I know they would do craziness just like me so we'll just nip it in the bud before it happens. I also went on the Senior Cruise after graduation. Another trip my kids won't take. We had a teacher as a chaperone who lovingly herded us together minutes after the ship set sail to tell us in no uncertain terms that "She was on vaca
  19. O.K. I just checked FaceBook and I am friends with Kim Cobb who is on the Board. She posted that option "B" was the calendar that passed. It is the option that Cobb just passed with the September break, week in November, two weeks at Christmas, week in February and week for Spring Break. It also has a very early start date if I remember correctly.
  20. I agree! Cobb made their decision months ago so I'm not sure why we are waiting so long. My interest is purely self-serving though as I teach pre-school in Cobb and would love for my children (who attend Paulding schools) to be on the same calendar as me.
  21. Does anyone know if they made a final decision on the school calendar for next year? I know that today was the BOE meeting where it was to be presented. I checked the minutes from the meeting but all they have posted so far is the agenda.
  22. Sadly this is the mentality that is taught to these kids even at the rec level. Both my boys play and we have played against teams of 8 year olds that are vicious and unsportsmanlike. For some teams it is a win at all cost state of mind. Hey, we like to win just as much as the next person, but at this age my boys are in it to learn the sport and have a little fun. We've told them both that this is football and you've got to be tough. Our older son loves it no matter what, but the little guy is having second thoughts. He said he might just retire and play baseball for a living Hats
  23. I lost nearly thirty pounds with Weight Watchers a couple of years ago and kept it off for nearly a year. It's a great program that I would vouch for. My problem came after about a year when my brain started telling me that "hey, it's o.k. to start eating what you want now that you're skinny again!" Unfortunately, the rat-like metabolism that kept me slim and trim in high school no longer exists and after a few months of eating what I wanted the weight ever so slowly creeped back on again. It is a LIFESTYLE CHANGE! No matter what diet or plan or calorie cutting you choose you have t
  24. If you are looking for a quick fix for the smell until you can do major repair, Ace Hardware (actually most any store) sells these odor absorbing air fresheners. They are in a round container and cost around 4-5 dollars. We have a small leak in my van and some water seeped into the front passenger carpet. The smell was absolutely horrible! I bought one of these after seeing them used at work. Our school had the carpets cleaned this summer and down in the basement rooms the mildew smell was pretty bad. We put one of these air fresheners in the room and in a day the odor was gone. The sam
  25. I've checked television websites, Paulding Board of Education website and the Paulding County Government website and no one is saying anything about tomorrow yet. My mom said she heard on t.v. this morning we were out tomorrow, but I can't confirm that anywhere so I'm waiting to get the "official" call from the BOE before I tell my kids yay or nay.
