  1. What would be even better is if these delivery folk were cited for littering, like *I* would be if I went around throwing trash in people's yards. I still can't believe we allow it, in general. They should have to ask our permission first, instead of forcing us to call them and beg them to stop, after the fact.
  2. I like the early train wrecks, too... but I totally get the, 'took a slot from someone more talented,' feeling too, for some that get passed through. Of course, I get the same feeling listening to the radio, hearing what's there, sometimes... and knowing what's out there that's even better. It's all about getting 'the big break' somewhere along the line, I guess. (And of course not all of them get one) Still, kudos to all the brave souls who get up there and try. Me... I have one of those voices that even autotune can't help. It'd be like a train wreck followed by an explosion
  3. Well, I think it's a bit of a ripoff, sure... but we currently have two GA bulldogs tags... and I expect we'll be keeping them. It's just once a year, and when I think of what I've blown, just on sheer impulse buying, in Guitar Center, Microcenter or Best Buy, it's just not that big a deal, really. Hey, if you're pinching pennies... you may have been better off without them in the first place. (Not saying that to be mean to anybody... just sayin) Ask me next year, and I may have a different answer. Been there, done that, too
  4. (Not my own work. I have never seen clear attribution for this, or I would just link it. Several have posted as their own, and there are many variations. It's been going around for a few years now, and a buddy reminded me of it, this morning. This is a 'cleaner' version that I first saw... but it's still pretty funny) The Diary of a Snow Shoveler December 8 - 6:00 PM. It started to snow. The first snow of the season and the wife and I took our tea and sat for hours by the window watching the huge soft flakes drift down from heaven. It looked like a Grandma Moses Print. So romantic we felt l
  5. That's the trick. I can probably manage our driveway OK, though it's usually not much 'fun' itself. It's the hill I have to go up to get out of our hood that has me most worried. After that, I can take roads that I know have been treated and travelled. Not my shortest route, but the safest, for sure
  6. Seriously! My little girl and I went out to see what this racket was, just down the road. Turned out to be a neighbor who had slid over the side of his driveway, getting towed out. While we were out, a gigantic sheet of ice slid off another neighbor's steep metal roof. It didn't take out their gutters... but WOW it was loud when it crashed. It made us play a bit further "out" from our own house, and take a much wider path around the house, when we headed back into the garage, that's for sure. That woulda left a mark
  7. Good stuff man! I expect the picture will be a bit different in the morning... and I'm hoping for some bright and early sunshine.
  8. Gotta say, these are all pre-"ME" but I have favorites there, as I do in just about any decade or genre http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyG63HDzq9k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbxxkwBQk_o This one is actually a cover, but it's one of few that I ike better than the original http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMTPHa7HWGs I like several of the ones you posted, too. Easier Said Than Done and Stay, for instace )
  9. I didn't either, until I actually 'got' one. Like I mentioned earlier, I was actually wanting a Droid, originally. I 'settled' for the iPhone because it's what AT&T had. I'd had a BlackBerry before, and wasn't all that impressed. When I saw the ease of integration with everything I do at work, email and calendars, even VPN or ssh access if I needed it, I was hooked. Add in all the cool apps and the fact that I didn't need a separate iPod or GPS unit any more, and I was even more hooked. I think other smart phones approach in some areas, and exceed in others (Flash, I'm looking at
  10. I'll be working from home again, without a doubt Not even going to try it tomorrow. Maybe on Wednesday.
  11. Yeah, people complained and complained about the 30$/month required data plan (that was completely unlimited) so AT&T responded. I'll still stick with them, for the next little while, at least. If I switch from AT&T, I'll probably also switch to a different phone at the same time. (I like my iPhone, but I'd originally wanted a Droid) Mainly, I'm just glad it's going to more than one carrier. Competition is good.
  12. True. I have a secret wish for those who are being stupid, during times like this, that end up taking out power poles... but I'll let it stay secret
  13. I'll second that emotion. However... falling trees can't tell which lines are which. Fingers crossed that the trees keep standing, and hang onto all their limbs
  14. Light, grainy snow / light sleet here. About midway between 92 and 61 off Ridge.
  15. Well, that seems like an awful lot of fun, at least. :) There was probably a time in my life when I would've gone to those extremes... but yeah, that time is gone. I have battery-powered, non-satellite access to essential services, and alternate entertainment sources. I'll survive.
  16. I know we'll lose our reception, if we get any accumulation of 2" or more. Our dish is on the backside of our roof, pointing forward, and just as low as they could get it and still manage to clear the ridge to hit the satellite. So really, it doesn't matter if our reflector stays clear or not. ~2" of snow at the roof apex, and we're relegated to DvD's, Tivo and YouTube or other online vids/TV shows. (Snow is one of the few occasions where I wish our insulation wasn't quite as good as it is.) Mostly, though... I'm hoping that losing our satellite reception is the worst problem we have.
  17. What's 'new' is the "enhanced pat down" for those that opt out of the full body scanners. Even the TSA's own blog site doesn't deny that a new 'enhanced' pat down procedure is in place, though it remains intentionally ambiguous, I think. (They were not as ambiguous when they tried this in 2004 and were made to stop) The object seems to be, to make it so invasive, that not that many people will opt out of the regular scanning process.
  18. Seen quite a few, in this thread, that I also miss. I'll say: Nestle's Alpine White (If you never had one, imagine what had to be 70%+ cocoa butter, milk, sugar, and some almond flecks. YUM) and Big John's Beans 'N Fixin's I still contact Nestle every so often, but I don't think they're ever going to make the Alpine White bars again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGjDjKJWwvs
  19. Then tell him not to wear any... he'd look ridiculous in it!
  20. True. Well... at least until you say, "Venti White Chocolate Mocha, 5 shots of expresso, please!" Not that, you know, I've ever done that, 5 days a week, for several months, until I got sick of it. ...but I've heard of people doing that. Yeah. That's it. My current "energy" drink addiction is not any better. I stop off, at a Racetrac along the way, for a couple medium Red Bulls and a 5-hour Energy drink, 3-4 days a week
  21. Yeah, there's some weirdness there, with the way it's working. Looks like an anomaly that Pubby will have to sort out, with the passwords. Must have gotten broken in the minor update last Sunday. Oh, Pubby!
  22. I "think" those passwords are encrypted and stored in a cookie. At the bottom of the page, on the left side, there are a few text links. Log out, and click the "Delete My Cookies" link.
  23. Pickup a KVM (or other brand) switch made just for this purpose. One keyboard, one mouse, one monitor. press a button or a hotkey combo to switch between computers.
  24. I can agree with that, in principal. Certainly not "Every" blown head gasket should cause an engine replacement. And yeah, the mayonaise can be cleaned out. Done it many times, after head and intake gasket failures. That alone wouldn't be a driving factor for "engine replacement" in my view. But every case is different, too. There does come a time where other options begin to look more attractive. I've had people drag 15+yr old vehicles in, 190k+ miles on them, wanting the head gasket replaced, that were leaking from every seal. Sure, I'll quote that out... I may tell you that I don't
