  1. Usually the car runs hot for whatever reason, and the head gasket is compromised at that time. It's just not always obvious, 100% of the time. There's still a reason the car ran hot. we used to find that reason, quote the repair, and add the caveat, "if a head gasket isn't blown" if it wasn't "obviously" blown to begin with. (Of course, we also used to test them for this, if it didn't become obvious to us on the post-repair test drive... both for our peace of mind, as well as the customer's.) Except in rare circumstances, head gaskets do not generally just "blow" on their own. Typically,
  2. If the "emergency" is of the sort where, during regular business hours, I can get in the car, drive myself over, and wait for a bit... I generally use one of the immediate care facilities. In recent times, the Physician's Immediate Med on 278. Love that place. I don't think I've ever gotten out of any hospital's "emergency room" in half the time.
  3. I'm guessing helium balloons, carrying some lightweight multi-colored LED display that randomly flashes one color or another, or blinks off. That's just from the rate of rise, and the way they look like they're drifting with the prevailing winds, and reacting to small gusts. Bottom line, for $50-$100, some group or club just had a lot of fun at others' expense. That's just my best guess. I'm definitely interested in hearing the actual explanation, right or wrong
  4. As it turns out, today had already been set as an upgrade day. Maybe someone told a scumbag and they couldn't resist. lol
  5. Yeah, Pubby still has a bit of "fun time" ahead. Meantime, at least we can all have our familiar Recent Topics button
  6. I had to dig a little deeper on that one. In the skin chooser, bottom left of the screen, if you see "Board Left" or "Board Right" you probably have no recent topics button. Choose "Blue Left" or "Green Left" for now and those skins still show the button
  7. I hear ya. If I had to guess... and I do, because I couldn't reach Pubby just now... I'd guess that the "Recent Topics" button is back as soon as it can be done One of my favorite buttons, as well.
  8. ...but in a, "The back end part of the upgrade is COMPLETE!" sort of a way. OpenX Adserv upgrade: Complete. IPB Forum/Blog/Calendar/Content/Gallery upgrades: Complete. Now, as for all this sawdust, the loose nails, and gettin' everything all "pretty" again... I'll pass the scepter to Pubby. All yours.
  9. 'Morning, early people Waiting on the last of our backups to finish up... then the ride may be a bit bumpy for awhile. ...and by "bumpy" I mean everything from, "Dang, Pcom is slow today!" to, "Where did my Pcom go?!?" to, "Hey, you got your chocolate in my peanut butter!"
  10. Yaknow... that sounds like one of those experiments that would turn out really really good... or pretty darned awful. However, comma, I do remember thinking the same thing about spiking chocolate milk with RUM... and I seem to remember really liking that one Always said I'd try just about anything, once. Edited because I found... Pumpkin pie egnogg, about halfway down this page. Sounds yummy.
  11. Dangit. Now I want a sweet potato pie. Or a pumpkin pie. Don't really care which. Yeah, not too picky at this point. Anything that tastes kinda like that would be awesome. Oh, to your question: Give it a shot. If you're talking about the canned filling, of one versus the other... I'm pretty sure it will work just fine.
  12. Try it again now It just takes some time to get your site removed from the list, after reporting it "fixed."
  13. Yeah, some scumbag hacker played with the adserver early this morning. All better, now. The problem has long since been resolved, and Pubby has told Google as much. I think I'd read where it could take up to 24hrs to be removed from "the list" once all is well. In addition to resolving this morning's issue, we are also upgrading the adserver software tomorrow, since there's a newer version out. (If all goes as planned, we will most likely update the forum software on tomorrow, too)
  14. My luck, when I went to have lunch later, there would be a sticky-note on my sign that read, I'm not sure if you did any of the above... but I sure did. Enjoy your lunch!"
  15. ~9 years, in this particular career, and still loving it! The day I decide it's just not "doing it" for me any more, I'll pick a new path, just like I did last time I still think that day is very far away.
  16. I doin't think I'll ever get tired of that one. I love seeing folks get what's coming to 'em.
  17. I'm sure ours weren't the only neighbors up that late partying... but you could've heard ours anywhere between Friendship Church Rd, Ridge Rd, and Cohran Store Rd. It was just.that.loud. High powered sound system in the middle of a backyard, over looking a hollow.
  18. Unfortunately I ended up sleeping in, this morning, after all. I'm saving the option, though. I owe him one.
  19. I have to second that emotion. All else being equal, one really nice person, in a sea of cow-orkers I don't care for, is not enough to keep me there. Life is too short for needless BS and drama, in a situation where you have an easy solution.
  20. Wow... they turned off the loud stereo, at last. Wonder if someone happened to check pcom to see if any neighbors were complainin'. Opened up a couple windows, now that the sound isn't deafening... but I was promptly greeted by some long drawling f-bomb filled diatribe about the great Florida strawberry and tomato conspiracy... (As I hear it, they would've had a bumper crop of both this year, but used the 'frost' thing as an excuse to dig up acres and acres of perfectly healthy plants, to drive up the cost and make them more money) True? Hey, who knows. Anyhow, yeah... I just sh
  21. This was the first night in a lot of years that I considered calling the police to someone's loud party. Neighbor and his drunken crew are still out there with their bonfire and loud music. At almost 3am. Of course I won't call. Just not my thing, to involve LE's in someone's life for minor things. I hope they appreciate my lawn mower running, in a few hours when they finally go to sleep. I have been wanting to see the effects of cutting at every deck height from 6 to 2 anyhow, and the stretch of grass between our houses seems like the perfect place to try it out. Shouldn't take
  22. That's my motto. When the time comes where that's not good enough, or where I feel mistreated in spite of it... I'll find a new job. Been there. Done it. A good employer should feel as grateful to have a good employee, as that employee feels to have the job.
  23. Awesome dramatization. I'm sure it'd never fly, over here. I like it. I think they should do similar ones for people who: 1) Are putting on their makeup in the car 2) Just can't quite reach that CD in the floor 3) Are in a heated argument with their wife/hubby/kids/friends 4) Are dancing all around in their seat, such that their car is weaving. (No seatbelt, of course) 5) Are drunk 6) Didn't get quite enough sleep last night... and it shows. 7) Are reading a book/letter/map while driving 8 ) Are watching a video on their iPhone, dvd player in the next seat, etc... 9) Have heliu
