  1. I hate this for you and wish you the best of luck. Not that this is any better but I have to say I was a little relieved when I read your post. My first thought was that another one of your dogs had been stolen. I'm happy it's not your dog but I'm sad you lost your job.
  2. You're right. It is sad all the way around. As a landlord I HATE throwing people out but sometimes you just can't let other people's problems become your problems. I still have to pay mortgage and taxes. If I allow the renter to live there without paying and I can't pay the mortgage then the bank will foreclose and everybody looses. The smart thing to do is go ahead and get them out so I can make repairs and hopefully move in another family who can pay. Labor ready has always worked for us. Another suggestion is to stop by a local shelter. There are always people who will jump
  3. GAA has a Mommy and Me class as well.
  4. I wonder if you could download it from Napster or ITunes. It may be cheper that way.
  5. I LOVE the risoto at Fusco's in downtown Acworth.
  6. Soup and corn bread sounds good. I'd love some good brunswick stew. The best I've found around here is at The Rib Ranch on Canton Road. All the others I've tried taste like it comes out of a Dinty More can. I think Surepip (?) made some a while back. I offered to buy a couple quarts but he never responded. Hint Hint.
  7. I'm in the same boat. November will mark the first year since my dad passed. My mother lived her life for my father. She did everything he wanted. She even cooked what he wanted to eat and they vacationed only where he wanted to go. Because of her didication to his wants and needs she led a very sheltered life. So, I decided to help her make herself a priority. Instead of dwelling on sandess I've tried to help her have new experiences. On her birthday, his birthday, their anniversary, etc. I've taken her to places she's never been and never even knew existed. I've taken her to di
  8. My father wanted to be cremated and have his ashes spread in the ocean because he didn't want anyone fussing over his grave or sitting in a cemetery on holidays, birthdays, or anniversaries. He said if you want to be close to me then go on vacation and have a good time at the beach somewhere. This November is the first anniversary so my family and I are planning to be sitting on the beach with a cooler of beer and a bucket of oysters. He wouldn't have had it any other way.

He cut off her breasts and hung her body from a tree on Wolf Pen Road. He was eventually arrested and the police officers were taking him f
  10. There is a poster in the ghost stories thread who claims the subjects of your August 1936 article were family members. I'll try to go find out who it was.
  11. Not all ghost stories are bad. Actually, mine are kind of comforting. I've lost a lot of family recently and some I still feel are watching over me while others I just can't feel at all but I wish I could. When my uncle passed away I was devastated and couldn't even watch as they folded his flag. I stared at the ground and silently sang "Old MacDonald" to myself to escape from the moment. I also tried to think about Christmas movies and the only one I could pull to mind at the time was about angels getting their wings when you hear a bell ring. I remember dropping my tissue. When I
  12. I just try to hit clearance sales and stock up throughout the year. I have a basement closet for future Christmas and birthday presents. Today I was at Aeropostale and they were having a sale with and additional 70% off their clearance items. I got several necklaces for $1.99. There was one white tote bag my daughter loves that is originally $29.00 and I got it for $4.80. I also got an overnight duffle type bag for $8.00 There were three pair of house shoes that are originally $15.99 each. I got all three for $3.99. I put every bit of it up for Christmas.
  13. I like the no bean chili for hot dogs. Has anybody tried to make a large batch and can it? I wonder how it would do in pint jars. I guess that way you would always have some ready for a quick meal. Chili with beans is one of my favorite cold weather foods. BUT... I only serve it to my family on Friday evenings. They need the whole weekend to work out the bubbles before they go back to work and school. My favorite way to eat it iw with crumbled corn bread or corn muffins.
  14. I have a little marketing or service suggestion for you. The schools no longer allow parents to bring in home made goods for their children. This means I can't make and send in cupcakes but I can send in store bought, sealed and labled cupcakes. It would be great if we could come online, order the cupcakes, pay online, and have you deliver them to the schools. This would really help working parents do something special for their children without having to leave work. Maybe you could work with local PTA's and they could send out fliers for you or allow you to have a display at the next
  15. Seems to be happening a lot. They've posted signs about this happening at my daughter's gym as well as other places. Two of my friends went to a football game at Kennesaw Mountain and both their cars were broken into on the same night. I believe there were a couple dozen in all.
  16. If you are wanting to go in February I would check out the cruises leaving from Charleston. We looked into them a couple of years ago and the only time Charleston had cruises was in Feb. They were very reasonably priced.
  17. My Alaskan cruise was the best. We toured the inside passage. The excursions were reasonably priced and very interesting. We went in June. It was still slightly chilly and always damp. If I remember it correctly, our Juneau tour guide said it rains all but 60 days a year. You won't need a big winter coat but I would absolutely recommend a waterproof wind breaker. We went on a Royal Caribbean ship and were more than happy with the accommodations. If I went again, the only thing I'd change is I would opt for the freestyle cruising. I prefer to eat when I want and nap when I wa
  18. She said," Sure Honey, I'd love one. Please make sure it's on the rocks and I only want a little salt this time. If you bring it to me before my show is over maybe I'll let you talk dirty to me."
  19. I think someone's been in the sauce.
  20. I don't even think I'd backpack in my back yard. Now, throw in some hotels and comfy transportation and we might have a deal.
  21. If you get wind of a cheap and short (3-4 day) cruise out of Miami and departing on Jan 25 let me know.
  22. Well then. How exactly do you describe yourself?
  23. I'm embarrassed to admit this but I had cheater's chicken parmesan. I put the noodles on the plate and topped them with -- get this -- chicken nuggets. I topped the nuggets with a slice of ham, a slice of parmesan and a ladel full of marinara. My pantry is full of odds and ends but nothing I really want to cook. I can't justify going to the store so I'm just trying to be creative with what I've got.
