  1. I have discovered that "I don't know." is a good response to use in many circumstances. It seems to keep me out of explanations often. I wish I had discovered this phrase when I was much younger but I don't think the teachers in school would have been happy with that response. It is a good response to use instead of pretending you know something you do not know and ends some of the discussion sooner.
  2. With all this discussion of the Zimmerman/Martin trial and the escape of Snowden.....what happened to the Benghazi story or the IRS story or the infringement of privacy issue. It seems we tend to be swayed from important stories that must be a big relief for the Obama administration.
  3. I didn't read all the comments but in my opinion, the case was not made to convict Zimmerman. I don't know what happened at the incident but the fact that they withheld background evidence on Martin showed something was wrong and they wanted it kept quite. The D.A. could have done a better job but he may have had nothing to really work with. I would hope Obama's army would stay out of further action on this case but they have been working on a Federal case. We will spend millions on this so Obama can have his fun. A terrible situation and no matter what, the outcome would not be accep
  4. My Comcast bill has gone up twice since Jan. I called and they said that was the price now. No discounts.
  5. Anyone now of a landscaping company that will do a one time cutting of a yard? My mower is in the shop and it is getting bad.
  6. First I don't really think this is important enough to make such a big issue of it. Secondly, I have noticed over the last few years that the media goes after Paula Deen every chance they have. The bad effect of her recipes, her being a diabetic (as if that makes any difference), the "n" word debacle. Who hasn't cursed at times, eaten too much of the good stuff, even been "politically incorrect" at times. Give it a break. I still remember eating at her old, small place in Savannah that was cheap and great southern food. I don't care if she had anything to do with it. The new place is no
  7. We were at the end of a long line of people. A couple of weeks ago, we went to a movie there, got into the aud. and the manager comes in about the time the feature should start and said there was a delay and it start soon. We waited and it started. It ended close to the right time because they skipped some of the commercials and previews. I think it was probably an equipment issue that created a late start and that is why they canceled one show and delayed a later show to get back on time.
  8. We were standing in line at the theater for the 1:15 show today of "Man of Steel" when the girl selling tickets yelled out that the 1:15 movie was canceled and the 3:00 show would be delayed to 4:00. No explanation was given?
  9. Has anyone used Atlanta West (Thornton Road)for installing counter tops, back splashes? Good or bad results?
  10. Best place for a small truck battery? AutoZone seemed very rude yesterday when I went to them. Where is the best deal and service?

    Nathan Dean

I was surprised that his passing wasn't covered on any Atlanta television news shows today. He was very popular in this area.
  12. At one time, at Rome Middle School, if you did not pick up your child by a certain time the police was notified and the parents was charged with child neglect. It could have been the second instance of it but it was handled by the Rome Police Dept. and not the school.
  13. I have noticed the rapid increase of steak prices in local supermarkets. At one store they went from $5.99 lb. to $7.99 lb. to $9.99 lb. for rib-eyes. I don't buy meat from WalMart but usually Publix or maybe Kroger's. Am I shopping the wrong stores?
  14. Okay I understand what you are saying. I remember when teachers were allowed to control their students with their methods and it worked to a certain point. Then it was decided that there should be a trail of evidence against the student where the write-ups would decide the punishment. Then they converted that to a three strikes and you're out system. Then it turned into a five step system which basically meant the students could get away with something about four times before any real punishment took place. I think then the ball was dropped by the adm because they didn't want to punish stud
  15. Some excellent points! The comment on micromanaging is true. But I think notifying parents of future activities or deadlines is a good thing to do. Even on high school level, parents question teachers concerning notification of expectations and schedule. I think the days of administrators (or board office) with a backbone is long past.
  16. I would think that if a teacher notifies the students of what behavior they expect and if the adm. would back them up on it, it would go smoother. I do believe that in today's age, communication is crucial to inform parents and students of what is expected and going on. Papers handed out in class, on classroom board, announced, emails to parents and students, phone tree messages and on web site. It makes it tough for anyone to say it wasn't communicated. I was told once that if a student is disruptive in a teacher's class, they would be removed so that the other students can learn. Thi
  17. I have heard of teachers being attacked by students in the county schools. One teacher was pregnant when she was knocked down by a student. Students have cursed at teachers, thrown books in the classroom, damaged property, etc with little if any punishment. My belief is that if any teacher is threatened with violence or attacked by a student, they should immediately call the police and file a complaint. Then they should consult a lawyer about legal action against the schools if the school has allowed it to go on. You have to think that if students are acting this way at school, what do
  18. Maybe because the schools have a reputation for not taking care of business?
  19. Just a few thoughts. Getting by the teacher/adviser and student officer was a mistake. Everyday in the AJC, they make many more mistakes. I don't think they did it on purpose. The girl that said he was a freak. She has a right to her opinion but that doesn't mean she is right. He may have reasons for acting the way he does that other students may not know about. It would too costly to re-print the books since the mistake was made at the school. I think a sincere apology from the principal and a maximum punishment for the students involved in putting it in there may be the only sui
  20. The Corner cafe is open and the college kids eat there during the week. They used to have a simple , cheap breakfast.
  21. It appeared to be a special class but it didn't show what the teacher did to get this lecture. I have had teachers that bored me and that I disagreed with but I was taught to be respectful of elders and teachers. From what I saw, the young man need a serious spanking.
  22. Someone else mentioned Dallas Tire.
