  1. I'm so happy I've got hens in my backyard that are providing my family with 2-3 eggs a day. The problems with all these recalls are the industrialization of the food industry. After watching Food Inc back in Feb, we changed whole diet and outlook on eating. Its scary when most of the meat only comes from just a small handful of companies, regardless of the label on the package.
  2. Neti pots and a nasal vacuum (or snot sucker). You hook it up to your vacuum cleaner/shop vac and let it rip. http://www.thingamababy.com/baby/2008/11/baby-nose-vacuum.html. It's called a nasal aspirator, and you can get them off e-bay, I believe mine was shipped from Norway or Sweeden. You put the big end in your vacuum hose, and the pointed in goes into a nostril, then it pulls a mild air flow from one nostril/mouth through your nasal passage and into the collection chamber. Just wash out the collected junk.
  3. It was out of Chicago, but there are several "Jack FM" stations that did the same thing. I got used to it when I lived up there (or held prisoner as Lewis Grizzard used to put it) few years ago.
  4. Wish we had something like Jack FM down here, that just played random music with no DJ's/morning shows. If I listen to music I usually use the Wonder Radio app on my phone and just stream something over the internet from my phone.
  5. Couple of beehives in the backyard, two dogs, along with my friends Winchester, Sig Sauer, and Ruger in 12ga/.40/.357.
  6. Wife cooked chicken sausage with homemade cornbread and fresh crouter peas cooked in bacon, onions and bell peppers.
  7. With my 100 watt transceiver and a dipole antenna (wire strung up in trees) I've reached Turkey, Israel, Russia, and the research station in Antarctica. Back when I spoke with the fellow in Russia, though he had a heavy accent, you realize we aren't so different. He complained to me he was an hour late for work, hated his job, and his boss was a real jerk. He could be my neighbor, folks aren't that different in any part of the world. Most proud though of hitting the Research Station in Antarctica, it was pretty hard to get through all the folks wanting to communicate with them and get the QSL
  8. I'm a ham radio operator with an extra class license, been one almost 20 years. What can I help you with ? Brad (N4UX)
  9. Just don't have them go to a methadone clinc, they end up just swapping one drug for another. My brother's done all sorts of mix of drugs and pretty much he's swapped it for methadone. Really has no intention of getting off it, since he can just spend all his money on their "legal" version of the dope.
  10. Normally I have fleas every summer on my two dogs, but this year I have yet to see any. I've read they are worse this year, and normally I put on the flea drops, but I've yet to have to use any. What has changed though, is I added 5 hens, and I believe they are eating the fleas - they sure eat anything that moves that decided to jump in their coop area. So far those hens have been the best pest control I've ever had, and so far we are getting about a dozen eggs a week from them as well.
  11. Wunderadio - Listen to radio stations everywhere TweetDeck - Nice twitter client. BeejiveIM - Don't pay for text messages, use the Yahoo/MSN clients for that. myWireless - Check minutes & pay your AT&T Wireless bill Kindle - Used for reading/buying kindle books from Amazon CardStar - Store all those store discount cards on your phone Ambiance - Noise/sound generator. Listen to crickets or noise to help you relax/sleep Craigsphone - Craigslist client RedLaser - Barcode scanner/price checker Personal opinion is to jailbreak the phone, install Cydia, and get 3G Unrestrictor to
  12. I got rid of Dish recently mostly since we don't watch that much TV. It was good service when we had it, but we are trying to save some money and it wasn't worth paying the cost of satellite/cable vs how much we use it. We ended up going with a digital outside antenna and netflix, and we have a PC hooked up to our big screen and watch instant viewing items (like on demand but free) though Netflix. We can also rent movies/tv shows through Amazon or iTunes, ends up being so much cheaper.
  13. I'd be up for it, always enjoyed busting clay pigeons.
  14. I got caught in the traffic mess around it this morning as I was headed to Lithia Springs.
  15. One thing too, if you get a bunch of rain in a week or two, sometimes you may get some muddy water at first where you don't have a filter (like the bathtub). If you needed to wash clothes, just turn on the nearest water outlet and kinda "flush" the line a bit. Only happens every now and then (least it did at my folks home with an old well/pump), but nothing to really get too concerned about.
  16. My wife was a big fan of the books and got me watching it, can't wait for the rest of the episodes to air - really looks like another great season.
  17. You only get to keep the unlimited plan if you already had an iPhone. If you have a new phone, or want to add tethering, you have to go to the new plans they offer. C-Net has a pretty good writeup on it with AT&T about the options. http://news.cnet.com/8301-30686_3-20006997-266.html
  18. One thing to keep in mind, and I'm an iPhone user as well - is that AT&T killed the unlimited data plan for all new users after June 7th. If you were already on it you are grandfathered in, even on upgrades/contract renewals. But new users get the shaft.
  19. It's like a power outlet for an accessory like a trolling motor. Thats what I have on my boat. You have two hot lines and a ground for running 24v motors on it if you need to. Think of it like a cigarette lighter in your car. Below is what a 3-prong one looks like.
  20. What is wrong with it, or what happened to it ? Because that is such a specialized device, its likely a dealer repair. I believe Apple does a flat repair on their items and basically its a swap out for a refurb. If the glass is goofed up/broke, you can often order a repair kit online and do it yourself. But if you aren't comfortable tearing into that, I'd either send it back to Apple or see if a local Apple store will do a swap for you.
  21. This works pretty good, I use it around my beehives as its about the only safe thing to use to keep the ants out and not harm the bees. Weather will wash/blow it away, but cinnamon is pretty cheap (and harmless).
  22. My wife who is diabetic has switched to using honey in things like coffee. It doesn't spike her sugar like normal sugar would. We both did the same thing and gave up artificial sweeteners, processed food, soft drinks, etc. We've both lost weight on what we jokingly call the "farmer diet". We've been buying organic, got part of a grass-fed cow this year, and if its something like yogurt or cereal we buy, the ingredients need to read more like your grandmother's pantry rather than a chemistry project.
  23. The also have sort of a fiddle shaped design on their back, small body with really long legs. They love hanging out in nice, dark places like basements, old shoes, toolboxes, etc. We only have two deadly spiders here in Georgia - the brown recluse and the black widow. The venom of the brown recluse is a tissue destroying type, and really hard to stop. Fellow my mom knew sat on one on a lawnmower, and they had to cut off a large chunk of his butt as it just destroyed the tissue. My doctor I went to on Monday was telling me about one of his patients that they were really having a tough time treat
  24. I have chickens and honeybees at home. Last time someone sent me that, besides ignoring the game, I told them if they wanted to play "real life" farmville, they were welcome to come over and clean out the chicken coop.
