Just how exactly would the police enforce an TWD law anyway? Does anyone think that such a law may be pretty hard to actually enforce?

There is another reason that they seem to be a bit nosey about what you are doing with your money. A large movement of cash could mean that they are loosing the money from being as a deposit on their books. At times when I have moved or withdrawn large amounts of money the conversation hasn't centered around so much as what I'm doing with it, but what they would like to offer me- move it a money market for higher interest or a CD. I moved six figures on one occasion and the conversation was exclusively about financial products- not terrorism. A customer with a lot of cash in hand is still a po

I'd buy myself a new identity and then take a nice long trip out of the country...with a bunch of my money.

From what I recall from an earlier visit, if the county government is closed for a holiday the landfill is closed too.

So all of our desires to get the heck out of Paulding for emergency medical treatment aside... What would you think if the sticker price on a car was $100k. You were told that it is a very expensive car to make, but if you moaned enough they would knock the price down to $50k (work with you on it... and if the insurance company only pays a certain amount how do you suppose the insurance company determines what they will pay- the UCR rate?). Is the car really that expensive in the first place, or is the price overinflated to begin with? I've seen post about any cost to save someone's life

Sorry folks, but I still have trouble seeing the justification for a helicopter transport to an ER being the better part of $20k. Am I the only one still with sticker shock? What exactly is it that makes that ride $20k? Yes, I know they are expensive to buy, fly and staff- but at what price point do you arrive at that is fair and equitable? Of course, if patients are flying every day at that rate, it is no wonder Congress has the all the ammunition it needs for price controls/government control. Maybe some of my skepticism is due to my lack of faith in our local monopoly emergency 911 ambulan

Tiger Woods' Affairs Cost Billions in Stock Market
Hee Haw replied to GeorgiaTornado's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I agree with MCMM... first, it's the economy- guess for some wild reason people aren't buying high-end watches and whatever else he advertises. Even on the name brand everyday consumables, more and more people have been switching to generic or store brand to save a few dollars. I hardly think Tiger matters in the checkout line. Second, it is winter and golf-related (and other warm weather sport) items would be expected to be down in sales. Third, most golfers are men- who basically really don't give a rat's behind about Tiger's personal life. They just think he's a really good golfer. Next the -

I don't doubt that you feel you are right in your claim Surepip, but there are a couple of points here that just don't make sense. It sounds like you are suing over some damage to your property, which couldn't possibly amount to $800k. Fact is, many governments and companies will settle lawsuits in favor of the plaintiff- even when the government or company is in the right- when he costs of litigation exceed the settlement amount. It's just plain math, economics and expediency. In your case they are willing to go to the mat at over $800k? Who are they protecting? Most of those people are out o

Chief and Asst. Chief at Hiram Police Department resign
Hee Haw replied to gpatt0n's topic in Paulding County NEWS
Could also be just a simple falling out over some aspect of the job, additional duties, pay, politics or some other disagreement. We seem to want to always see the worse and that may indeed be the case here. But it could also be over some other reasons too. They certainly wouldn't be the first two people to up and leave a job for whatever reason. -
Generally speaking, surgery is best saved as a last resort- whether it be a laminectomy (which may or may not help relieve pain in the long run), fusion (really towards the extreme in repair) or nerve blocks through burning nerve endings (which are usually not permanent and can mask pain signals that you really need to prevent doing damage to yourself). First, I would see a specialist who is not an orthopedic surgeon (nothing against them- there are some really good ones out there and they do wonderful work)- an orthopedic surgeon does surgery for a living, so if you go to one expect to get su

Marietta Gets State Stimulus Funds to Bring Business

What a great idea! Maybe we can get another Wal-mart store- or another eatery or gas station. -

Looks like Fire Station #11 is bidding again

That must be the extra cost for the ladder parking Freebird By the time it's over the price will be even higher. But I'm sure Tommie and company can work with the figures and save us even more money! -
Try Marietta Eye Clinic over near Kennestone hospital.

I agree with you Shag- we have to cut back, but we also voted for some of these things that we will have to pay for. The bill is coming due for things we have voted for ourselves over the last few years back when times were good. I expect the government to raise taxes for those things, but I also expect them to hold the line on the general fund budget for things that are already in place. If a library needs to close for a day or two out of the week so be it. Same with a park or other non-essential things. I don't expect them to close a fire station or reduce police services, but if they raise

And I'll believe the part about a new hospital when I see the hospital's Grand Opening. Heck, if they build a trauma center I'll be double surprised- but don't anyone hold their breath!

I've heard it's going to be even better than the first- more action!

Most towns and cities have a downtown merchants association that most of the businesses belong to in order to address their specific needs- both financially and politically. I'd be surprised if Dallas didn't have some type of downtown merchants association. If not, perhaps they would be interested in forming one so that they would have a forum and a more united voice (assuming they want something different or more than what they currently have).

If it is a crack in the foundation of a slab home I wouldn't worry too much- I doubt the repair will be too expensive. I talked to a builder one time (a good one) and he said that many slab foundations will develop a crack or two and can usually be fixed by simply filling it in with a special cement mix. Don't know about basement floors and walls though.

The design of Dallas is much like many other towns- a main street, some shops and a traffic light. Like I said in an earlier post- I kind of like it (but I don't do much of anything in it either, except drive through it). But if Dallas isn't the mecca that some would like it to be I suppose it is because the people and government of the town don't want it any different than the way it is. That's okay with me- I don't live in Dallas and the folks that do are within their rights to make it into any kind of town they want.

... the sun don't shine on the same dog's ass every day. Now that's the best one I've heard in a while. I'm gonna write that one down... what difference would a Democrat commisioner or chairman have made? Instead of simply being in the red a Democrat would have completely bankrupted us. As far as your own lawsuit goes, this has crossed my mind. Remember I am just playing devil's advocate here. If I came to position after a previous administration had done you a wrong and paid big bucks to cover it up or keep from paying out reparations. I could determine if you

I kind of like it the way it is. That 'small town' atmosphere on main street really seems to be the best feature about downtown Dallas. All the big commercial growth seems to have gone to Hiram, so I don't think you will see much duplication of the same types of development/businesses in downtown Dallas anyway.

I don't know about any hush money, but I do recall that the county had about $20 million in reserve funds (not too bad a shape to leave things). Sure, we paid more taxes- and got more services. I for one voted against the fire tax and for the green space land purchase. We didn't get a public vote on the courthouse- but if the sheriff and judges and commissioners all seem to have agreed that we needed a new, bigger courthouse so I can't much argue against it. And I will vote against anything else in the future that would result in more taxes. As for the budget, if you look at the county bu
