  1. Interesting theory by the OP. Any savvy politician would try to time tax increases to their best benefit. Or at least the least harm done to them. I wouldn't think though that Austin would throw Powell and Ragsdale under the bus, especially as they were so helpful to him in getting elected (especially Powell). But that's just politics and, like Obama, you can't expect Austin not to take advantage of a previous administration or outgoing commissioners as scapegoats. Especially if they are due some blame. What ticks me off is the timing. Vote for SPLOST or we'll have to raise taxes. SPLOST p
  2. That is because for many people politics is about who you like or don't like- not principles. Amazing that, in the eyes of their own CEO, all government employees seem to be viewed as being of less value than a real estate salesperson. Maybe he just has the view that it is okay for them to be a worker in the rank and file, but it isn't okay to for them to try and move up out of the servant's quarters. Put a little pressure on a politician and sometimes the real person- the real way they think and feel- comes out......
  3. Bella, I think you are asking yourself and answering the same question that a lot of people are starting to wonder. Why? Why does David want Todd on the board so much- and why does Todd want on he board so badly he's willing to do it for 'free'. These people are too eager. What is the agenda that King David is afraid that someone like Beverly would "hold back the commission" on? If drawing a paycheck on the county (taxpayer) dime is so bad, then why is David doing it? So drawing a government paycheck is a bad thing? Attention all teachers. firemen, cops, judges, water employees, sewer emp
  4. Shhhh... We'll talk more about it at the secret clubhouse. Bring your decoder ring. So you mean that they think that the guy standing on the street corner with the Nathan Deal sign is the chief conspirator in the county?
  5. Term limits make good sense at the local, state and federal level of government (but especially the federal). You don't suppose any of our leaders would vote themselves into that corner, do you? How about if instead of giving back their pay the candidates pass term limits on themselves?
  6. Would you care to explain to the viewing audience who appoints most of these development boards and authorities? Do the IBA and Airport Authority create and fund themselves completely. Guess the county government also has no influence on the chamber either? My dog agrees with me too. He must love me just for me being me... A unified BOC- just like a unified Congress- is also known by a few other names- ruling council, politburo, take your pick.... I think the American people are learning a hard lesson after following the same logic with Bo- give him and his guys (Pelosi, Reid, the rest of
  7. The only kings I'm wild about are two, three and four of a kind Who are Ithy and Tom- do they have pcom names? I must admit, I'm giving Austin more credit than he is guilty of. Their first year they are 'citizen' leaders- then they work their way up to 'officials'. After that they become the minor royalty. It isn't really until a few years into it that they become full-fledged monarchs. King Jerry may have had his day, and I'm sure King David's day is right around the corner though.
  8. And.... Cue Billy Mays!!! Will David or Todd help me loose weight or help me get those tough set-in stains out? How about get more stuff in my closet? Seriously..... your average post commissioner has no more control over jobs than I do over weather. I think the strategy right now is to talk up Paulding and take whatever comes. We can't exactly be the pickiest girl at the dance anyway- no Interstate, 278 is basically a 1/4 mile drag strip between traffic lights (except during rush hour, when it turns into a crawlway) and we have no water supply. The airport is so far removed from anythi
  9. And I wonder who on the current board- and amongst the current candidates- that Carruth and his predecessor support? Hmmm... that would be very interesting to know. It would indeed be disheartening to learn that the last good ol' boys who got tossed out of office were really just the 'new' good ol' boys being replaced by the 'old' good old boys. But of course, King David, Tommie, Todd and David B. wouldn't be tied to the 'old' good ol' boys... Nah! NG hit the nail on the head- this election should be about checks and balances......
  10. How many acres? Near KC? I don't doubt that you feel you have been victimized- and not knowing the real details I can't say who is right or wrong. But, I'm assuming that if the county has spent 1 mill on the case, you must be pretty leveraged as well. In any case the question still stands unanswered. And frankly, if I were in your shoes I would probably be extremely biased towards supporting candidates where I believed the end result would be a favorable outcome for me in my case. I don't blame you if you feel that way, but I think in all fairness to the rest of the people you are trying
  11. Does this mean my satellite TV is going to act up again? Dang!
  12. You wouldn't expect them to break lock-step with King David, would you?
  13. Amazing...... Here we have an administration that uses the old scare tactic of raising taxes if SPLOST doesn't pass. Now that they got SPLOST passed, we'll get a tax increase anyway. If this happened a few years ago the same crowd on here saying it isn't really a tax increase would be calling for the head of every commissioner, calling them crooks, liars, thieves and waiting for the investigation that would magically come and throw them all in the pokey. Where can I get some of that Kool-Aid?
  14. Surepip, you are awfully wrapped up in this election- as apparently you were the last one over King Jerry. Listening to you is almost like listening to an infomercial on how much we need product A and how much product b stinks. You have a lawsuit against the county and I have to wonder if you have a very vested interest (more than the ret of us) in the outcome of a couple of these elections?
  15. I can't say anything right now, but soon some breaking news about Animal's candidate will come out. I have it from a good source inside their camp that Animal's candidate will finish last in the race. But I can't give the details, just wait though, soon the story will break and it will rock. I have it on good authority from someone in the know that a friend of a friend knows but I can't say anything else.......at least not until I start the next post!
  16. No is no. I do most of my shopping outside the county now because of the increased sales tax inside Paulding. Lowering the sales tax will encourage people like me to shop inside the county because the incentive to shop outside the county will be reduced. Pass it if you want, but I've got enough to pay for- new courthouse complex, school E-SPLOST, greenspace we voted to buy, fire tax we voted for (that now suddenly also needs the SPLOST), school bond we voted for (to build all those nice gyms), airport to maintain and reservoir to pay to build. Just as soon as one funding crisis passes well get
  17. First of all, don't allude to all this terrible story that will 'rock'. Either spit out what you know to be true or don't post. If you aren't prepared to call it like it is you are either a liar or a coward. All I think of when I see those kinds of posts is that someone has an agenda, and that whatever story there is will probably be a bunch of crap stirred up by somebody else with an agenda. Even if there is smoke here it sounds like it is about some family member. So what- who doesn't have some nutty or shady relative somewhere in the family tree. How would that impact her ability to be a go
  18. That's an economic plan? Are you leaving something out in your post or is he leaving something out in his platform?
  19. It would seem though that Handel started it, being quick to sling mud- I mean, point out- how crooked all the other Republican front-runners were. It does seem, however, to be an accurate reflection of her support of mainstreaming gay relationships and supporting an organization (planned Parenting) that both endorses and finances aboortzions. Whether or not you personally agree with the issues, they tend to be Republican conservative base hot buttons and will likely have an effect when people get in front of the voting machine. Let's face it though, Handel probably won't get a great deal of su
  20. I heard the same thing. And it's really hard to believe it. I just can't image that she is really Obama in disguise!
  21. The wind shook our trailer like no tomorrow! I've got to get some tie-down straps.
  22. I doubt it was intentional. Likely the President or his staff failed to ask the county and the city. Those local governments who knew of it and were inclined to lower the flag did so, others did not. I wouldn't be surprised if the guys who took care of those types of things for the county and city was laid off anyway. Here we are in a budget crunch, knowing that we can expect to see a reduction in services and other optional tasks. Along comes an optional task and... surprise... it didn't get done. No big surprise, and certainly nothing to make a federal case out of
  23. Settles it for me... If he's got guts enough to come on here and face down the PCOM jackals he sounds like the man for the job. I'm not as interested in having a 'nice guy'- or the current seat warmer- as the DA as I am in having a tough go-getter. The DA prosecutes felony cases- rapists, robbers, murderers, child molesters, habitual criminals who are a danger to our society..... I want a tough- and sometimes cranky- DA with experience in the courtroom and on the street. I'm fine with seeing the incumbent move along and letting the other guy work on my will or Sunday pouring permit.
  24. Just trying to figure out if it is the same guy whose name I heard on TV, and if so, where his qualifications come from...... A year's time as a part-timer in the most liberal magistrate's court in the country and an in-depth knowledge of the local liquor laws just don't seem to be what I'd be looking for in a DA. Not saying that any of the choices are great, but I can't recall anything good from ever choosing from the lesser of evils. Is that jack*** enough for you?
