    SPLOST

Well, then they'll just have to take it from me. I'm voting myself a tax cut- the only one I'm likely to get- and every politician that comes around to raise taxes- whether it is for such noble gestures as archery ranges, dog parks and skate parks or not- I'm going to the poll to show him or her the door. I'll be there in July to vote an end to this slush fund- and if for some reason my vote doesn't count then I'll do my best to spend every penny that I spend on things outside the county.
  2. I'll have to miss this one- have prior plans- but hopefully I can make it to next year's Grand Opening ceremony.

    SPLOST

I'm sorry, but you can count me as part of the 'taxed enough already' club. They got a fire tax to pay for fire protection- so they still want to dip into SPLOST?- they got a new courthouse and office building that we are paying for now- they got a another SPLOST to pay for new school gyms and other buildings that we are paying for now- I know the feds are paying for most of the costs to build the airport, but we'll have to pay to maintain that if it ever gets finished- and I still don't know where we are going to get money to build and operate the legendary reservoir. When does it stop? The m
  4. So how long before- once the building boom finally returns- before the politicians and the builders figure out how to line the new bypass with subdivisions?
  5. You know, I was just thinking about that the other day. I drive that road now and then and for about as long as I recall in recent history I can't remember the stinky fields being stinky. Is it just because the weather isn't real hot yet or has something been done to control the odor (giant can of Lysol???)?
  6. I'd have to go with Jesus too. Assuming you could speak Aramaic, what a conversation that would be.....
  7. They should use a stretcher and they should place a cover over the body bag that hides the fact that there is really a body bag being used. The body bag being slung around (complete with moans and groans) was totally unprofessional. This doesn't sound like a crime scene on CSI and the deceased should be treated with as much dignity as possible. They should also let you know that they are moving the body and give you the opportunity to leave the area if you don't want to watch. I suspect you got a dose of untrained and/or inexperienced handlers? Of course, if I'm not mistaken the coroner also
  8. I figure the NAACP wouldn't launch the suit without the tacit approval of the universities. If the universities don't take a vocal stance against the lawsuit that will be the indicator of their buy-in.
  9. It looks like a catch 22. Those universities are not really viewed as highly as the more economy-driving research and professional degree-granting universities, so they are not first on the list for appropriations. They just don't generate big, so they don't get big money. They didn't want to merge with other universities for cost-savings (and perhaps to expand their offerings) because they wanted to maintain their individual identity and autonomy. And for that decision they get to keep paying the price they have been paying. Of course, lot of students are also attracted to smaller schools, pe
  10. I've heard this music and know the tune. Do yourself a favor and tear out the basketball goals. When the weather warms up a little more you'll find that you will have to spend money on securing your swimming pool too.
  11. I'd be a little surprised if they stayed in business, given the economy...
  12. But Ivy, the minimum wage is the floor by which we are all valued. If you raise the minimum wage up to say, $15.00, then unskilled labor jobs will pay $30k a year. Prices of meals, hotels, many labor-oriented services, etc. will skyrocket. Not to mention, the relative scale for everyone else. If you were semi-skilled labor, making $30k a year, your pay will have to go up to $45k a year to retain you, and so on and so on. Or, we could just pay everyone $50k a year, have universal healthcare and universal higher education, regardless of what they do, so that everyone could have a good, basic sta
  13. Viewing the EITC as an economic stimulus- that it actually grows money into the economy- is the same logic behind thinking that federal government stimulus (money printing) will stoke the economy back to life. It's wealth re-distribution plain and simple. Somebody has to pay for every entitlement program. Somebody. Period. Of course giving poor people money will result in them spending it. The research shows that people on the lower end of the socioeconomic scale spend more and save/invest less. But there is also a principle involved- yes, I know the progressive socialists on here will roll ov

  15. BB and NJ get the 'somethin' ain't right' award tonight. I always pay... and pay.... and pay.... every year. Never been to Animal Kingdom- don't get to take much in the way of vacations anyway. Now take that anger that sizzled in your gut when you read that post, support the fair tax and get yourself to the next TEA party rally. Because there really are lots of people out there who manage to live very well on your dime whilst you work very hard to subsidize their lifestyle- and it's fixin' to get worse.
  16. I think its really a good thing. We've got a few kids, carry a lot of debt and don't make a lot of money. Every year for the past few years we get a pretty big tax credit refund. Since we don't make a lot and spend a lot of what we make on living expenses, health insurance and kids we aren't able to save a lot of money. Our tax refund basically pays for us to take the kids to Florida on a vacation for a much needed and well deserved break. Last year we were able to fly down to Disney and stay at the Animal Kingdom for a whole week, and still had some money left over. We just couldn't do that w
  17. Then just change your W-4 so that you keep more of your paycheck.
  18. I seem to recall most of those comments being centered around one or two political campaigns. I think the airport suddenly got to be a better idea after election time.....
  19. The name sounds like a looser. One day it will probably be a good thing for Paulding. Unfortunately, the economy isn't right for it at the moment, but when the economy and the rest of the county catches up it may prove to have been a far-sighted project. Only real problem for it is access though, and that will be a huge obstacle to overcome.
  20. Trapped like a rat in a sinking ship... It's not all bad though- got a wal-mart and a zaxby's nearby
  21. One of my posse got disrespected so he put a couple of rounds at the punks to show them he can take care of his business.
  22. There's a big red box-thing in wal-mart that rents movies really cheap. They also sell popcorn and candy there too. If you really want to go with that idea long-term buy one of those surround sound boxes while you are there too. It's a sad thing, but there are enough of the 'me' generation out there to make going the movies too much aggravation. Of course, years ago there were actually ushers who walked rounds through the theaters, taking care of problems like that before they got out of hand. Now they just take your money and give you a place to sit.
  23. Check their rules first. Many colleges and universities forbid weapons and such (including pepper spray). Of course, if they do prohibit students from carrying such, that means she would just have to be extra discreet in carrying it on her...
