  1. I havn't left my house since I got home Friday. What I thought was a cozy rainy weekend at home, turned into this!! While I'm very fortunate to not be in an area greatly affected by the floods, I have not gone out for fear of being in the way. So, I have finished padding the walls, and I was wondering if I can borrow one of your straight jackets!!! I know most of you probably have at least one, maybe two.
  2. I sure hope so!! I also hope the county/state gets the money to pay them!!! What a great concept.
  3. I have not been out since this began, but I think I would not be passing "road closed" signs, and driving with extreme caution on any other roads. They can become washed out verfy quickly, and I sure as heck dont want to be the first one to find out!!! The county absolutely cannot be everywhere right now, watching every part of every road. Sometimes it boils down to practicing some of the common sense you have. If you cant seem to locate your common sense....STAY HOME!!
  4. Hmmm, I work at Thornton and I-20, will I ever go to work again??? I am very fortunate to have such a great boss that told me to just stay home and hang with the kiddos!!!
  5. I want to thank Subby for the water lesson yesterday! I also want to thank PCOM, and all the emergency people that have been working so hard night and day to keep us safe! Oh, and the water dept and power (I cant believe I didnt lose power). I also want to thank my boss for telling me to stay home and be safe! Heck..thanks to everyone for showing how truly amazing people can actually be.
  6. I second that! If I'm not reading it on PCOM, my kids are asking me!! Who cares....wait until the school calls. I'm happy they call my phone and tell me instead of waking up each morning to watch 10,000 school names scroll across the bottom of the screen!!!
  7. I actually appreciate some knowledge once in a while! I dont get too worried about water as long as there are stores open that have it..or soda..or beer!!
  8. My son is 11 so its a little different, but he was sick for a week and a half. He had what seemed like a head cold for a week, then had a fever for 3 nights, and 2 weeks later he is still coughing but much better. I called the doctors and they said unless they treat it within 24hours, there is nothing they can do. You need to make sure he gets A LOT of fluids, and try to keep the temperature down. If he becomes extremely lethargic, call the doctor. Thats what they told me to do. Very nerve racking when it lasts so long.
  9. Thats it!!!!! I'm filling my tub now... Just kidding....thanks for the insight. Maybe I will have the kids read your lesson, seeings how they havnt been in school..
  10. Hmmmmm...what does he drink (thinking I may need to hit the liquor store)
  11. I did it WITH an attorney, and it didn't help. She wouldnt look down the road when the kids started school, wasnt an exact child support figure (just half of all costs) If you do it on your own, in the agreement...cover ALL issues. Dont verbally agree on anything such as holiday visitation. If you want to save money, get as mucs in writing ad you can, and down the road you can always file ammendment papers if needed. Its better to have something than to live apart with no agreement due to lack of funds for a lawyer.
  12. 20 years ago was not the Carter administration. GOOD employees are not a dime a dozen these days. Many are lazy and would rather stay home on unemployment. Regardless of the age of the OP it was a logical question in this day and age...current times, not a history lesson. No, it is clear that there are no mandatory laws that people should get paid for days when their houses are buried in water. I dont believe the question was if they are obligated, it was if they will. It sounds to me like it was meant for people who actually work. These are working people the OP was speaking about, not C
  13. There is bereavement pay, No Work=No Pay?? Not always. No company is REQUIRED to pay anything except minimum wage...Some companies do more. Some dont even like to pay minimum wage. Its not someone saying I missed work, someone needs to pay me" For some people it may be "I am worried about making ends meet, my company is under water, what can I do??" People are losing their homes and if a company has the ability to help, then they should. If you want employees to go above and beyond and care about your company, then care back. 20 years ago, bosses knew the first names of their employees..
  14. I have never been there, but I've heard it was kind of gross to begin with. Can you imagine how gross the grounds will be after being submerged? Nevermind the rides, I wouldnt want to be there at all.
  15. I sometimes miss the snow and the freshness of the air and such but... I love the South, the Southerners, and the LACK of SNOW!!!
  16. I dont think unemployment counts until after at least a week. If your business closes foer an extended period of time, it would probably be considered a layoff unless they could work you cleaning up or something. If thats the case, I would recommend offering to help vs a layoff.
  17. I surely hope your family will not lose their businesses! My post before was mainly referring to companies that are NOT damaged, just employees that cannot get out to report to work or who had damage. I think companies going through devastation themselves would not be able to pay lost wages, unless it happened to be covered in an insurance claim.
  18. Hey guys, it is just a question the OP was asking. Some companies WILL pay it. The weather is not the fault of the business owners, but death is not either and some companies offer bereavment. There are certain circumstances where a business may have enough money to do so, and it will be out of the KINDNESS of their heart if they do. Times are tough for everyone. If a company has loss income due to being closed, thats one thing. The job I work at makes money wether we are there or not, as a lot of my job can be done by phone. If a company makes the same amount of revenue that day, I thi
  19. I think its like 1 FOOT of snow for every INCH of rain.......can you imagine?? We used to have a bunch of "snow days" every year in Maine, and those were the best days ever. Snowing in the morning, hot cocoa....so fun.
  20. Did you end up staying at work last night?
  21. I agree, however, I live in Yorkville, and can get to Wal Mart in Rockmart for meds if anyone needs. I understand there are many road closures, but some that are not in any of the extreme dangerous areas, still may be concerned to go out. Please everyone...be smart and safe.
  22. That just gave me the creeps!!! All those people walking in the water....I know they have no choice, but still.
  23. It IS the parents responsbility to judge conditions for their own children....BUT it is also the JOB of the Superintendent that did not do his JOB. It is not just the children (whose parents could have kept them home) it is the Teachers on the roads, and the Bus Drivers that were made responsible for the children and put in positions that they NEVER should have been put in if someone did their JOB. Hooray for Paulding County for doing their jobs!!!!
