  1. There are reports of snow around Mobile and Pensacola as well. And I swear I saw some snowflakes outside my window. Hubby said I shouldn't swear to such things.
  2. I'm a card carrying cynic and even I can't believe that people make the DECISION to become a junkie. To take that first hit of speed or burn that first bowl of crack or shoot up the first time but to decide they want to become a junkie, nope. Doing the drugs makes it more difficult to make a good decision, absolutely. And to some people they don't feel "normal" without the drugs. But that IS their normal. Straight isn't their normal. Lonely, heartbroken, suffering from poor self esteem, having poor coping skills is their life but that isn't what they want to be. My sister in law ha
  3. And how many of the "new" heroin users started out on prescription pain meds? Just because your doctor won't write any prescriptions for the stuff does not mean your "dependence" on them goes away. From what I have read in recent months, many prescription pain med patients have turned to illegal drugs because they are cheaper and more readily available. Yeah, thanks for that pain management clinics. And if you were new to using drugs would your first drug be shooting up heroin? BTW, great post!
  4. Yep, she's here. They moved down about two weeks before Christmas. They are buying a house down at Navarre, about 20 miles from here.
  5. So true. I have found that it's all small stuff now, too. Miss you!!
  6. I'm going to be cremated so unless it can go with me, I'll just leave it here. Don't want to litter to seashore with stone tablets anyway.
  7. Yeah, and the UPS guy needed hand trucks because it was so heavy.
  8. You, my dear friend, are the bravest person I have ever met. I simply cannot imagine going through what you did........ and you know what I've been through.
  9. Mine is on stone tablet. But I've got a few years on you.
  10. I think it is absurd that someone the age of your mom has to prove their identity in order to get a drivers license renewed. If it was a first time license, yeah, maybe. But to renew one? Totally ridiculous. I'd make a comment about the ineptitude of our government but will refrain at this time. Now that I've undergone an FBI background check to get a concealed carry license, I'm on their radar. I will warn them now. You listen in to my phone conversations you better have lots of coffee and speed because I'll put you to sleep.
  11. Glad you were happy with a contractor I recommended. I wouldn't use anyone else. Wish I could get him to come down here and do some work for me in this house.
  12. For sure. Love the new Pcom name. And your new lights.
  13. Just got off the phone from making my first payment. Just under $500 for the month. And it looks like it may be effective February 1. I was told it would not be effective until March 1 but if that were the case, I don't know why my first month's premium would be due by February 3. While I'm not happy about any of this because it hasn't turned out as promised, I am happy with the plan I have chosen. My doctors are on there and the plan pays pretty well, considering I have to pay the first $6250 before insurance will pay anything.
  14. Not only that, it isn't a good idea to have the listing agent be your agent. The listing agent is there to represent and protect the seller. We never would consider a house our agent had listed. Rarely did we ever even look at one listed by the agency for which she was an agent. This house was listed by a broker in Pensacola; our agent is in Milton. They are in the same MLS and know each other. In fact, the listing agent knows our agent, and us, very well now. I'd be willing to bet he reads over all offers from front to back and top to bottom now. We were given the code for
  15. The first agent we dealt with down here looked absolutely NOTHING like the picture on her card. In fact, she had to introduce herself to me. The second agent still looks like the picture on her card even though she ditched that haircut a couple of years ago. She still looks the same. I always wondered why the glamour shot, too. I guess, like lawyers who advertise on TV, they want to look approachable and want people to know what they look like. And they all have slogans. The photos and the slogan are two big reasons I am not an agent. Well, that and I'm NOT a salesperson.
  16. Doctors will tell you that you do still need to get the shot. I did when I had it in 1989/1990. I had the flu sometime around Thanksgiving and the minute my doctor said I was well enough to have a shot, I did. I wasn't taking a chance on getting the flu again especially since I had it so early in the season. The EMTs death has been a shock to this area. People seem to ignore a flu death until it hits home. This hit home. The man was very well thought of by co-workers and the citizens he served. Edited to add: like I said earlier, I had the flu shot about two weeks ago. I didn
  17. Yes, that is correct. Any agent can show the property. We have never had the listing agent show us a property. Edited to add this to comment on your addition. Entirely possible that the agent is not affiliated with the listing agency. It wouldn't be a bad idea to give them a heads up about it though. If it's a rental, the odds are pretty good that the agent is from that agency.
  18. I got my flu shot about two weeks ago. A day later our area lost an EMT to the flu. Last I heard his wife was fighting for her life in Birmingham where she was flown by our version of LifeFlight (ironically the air version of the ambulance service for which her husband worked). Doctors were not sure she was going to survive and at the time his death was announced, she was in a coma so she did not know about his death.Even if the flu shot is only 60% effective, that is 60% better odds than not getting the shot at all.I've had the flu. Twice. I'll get the shot from now on, thank you very mu
  19. And in those states, the ones on Medicaid are still in the same boat. Bottom line is you get X number of people paying into the system who wouldn't otherwise have, you increase profits. If everyone has to meet a deductible of say $6000 before insurance pays the first penny, then the profits go up as well. Covering preventive medicine is much cheaper than covering treatment, which the patient has to pay the first $6000 of anyway. And how many people really have done the math to realize that a $6000 a year deductible per person comes out to be $500 a MONTH. Having done tax returns sin
  20. My husband and I received training (and he did an apprenticeship) for jobs that barely exist now. He was a journeyman *manual* machinist. There are still people out there who call themselves machinists but most are little more than machine operators, computer operators for the most part. A manual machinist can set up the machine to run parts, one part or a thousand parts, and run the parts. Today's "machinists" use a crane or an automatic feed to load material into a CNC machine to make parts. Yes, the CNC machine can make parts cheaper and faster than the old fart standing at the machine
  21. Prayers for a swift healing of Jennifer's injuries. And be sure to take care of yourself, too. Thanks for the update. I looked up the doctor and you couldn't have gotten a more qualified doctor. Hughston Orthopaedic Clinic is one of the best you can find. His bio says his fellowship was there. Hughston does a lot of work with returning soldiers (they are located very close to Ft Benning) so they have to know their stuff. I have a friend who used to do transcription for Hughston Clinic.
