  1. My husband won a set of cordless tools from Home Depot about 8 or 9 years ago. They were crap. I'm thinking they were Ryobi.
  2. He needs to alert the place where it occurred, too. Manager or district manager, not store clerk.
  3. I had my credit card info stolen at a convenience store years ago. If he has been to one lately, he might alert them as well as the SO and the credit card company.
  4. If you need it to earn a living, you'd be better off to buy qualify tools from Snap On, Craftsman, Bosch, Kobalt, etc. and not Harbor Freight. But if you're only going to use something a few times ever, or a few times a year, HF is a great place to buy them. Hubby sold all his good tools a little more than a year ago. But he still likes to have some tools around though he doesn't do much with them these days. He has a cut off tool and something similar to a Dremel that he bought at HF for about 1/4 what the same item would have cost at HD or Lowes. I got some great stuff for my kitch
  5. No argument there. Funny thing, they all still exist in other areas. Are Paulding diners that much more discriminating when it comes to food? We rarely eat at chain restaurants as most have horrible food that they are overly proud of. Jim n Nicks comes to mind. I also don't care for Applebee's. Hubby won't eat at Ryans. Longhorn is decent for the occasional, maybe twice a year outing. Outback is just not what it used to be and was never one of my favorites anyway. I prefer a bowl of cereal over Waffle House. We love to find mom and pop, hole in the wall places to eat. Abou
  6. In that shopping center, right? I miss Subs n Such. Ate there a good bit.
  7. We have Sonny's. Two in Pensacola and one in Ft Walton Beach. Wow, Shoney's with a bar. Interesting concept.
  8. That Subway is going in where the old Subs n Such was, isn't it? I'd be excited about Hobby Lobby, too. And Taco Bell. We lost one of our Taco Bells in this area due to a fire last summer. We have two others, though. The only thing I have really missed that was close to us up there is Garden Ridge. It's about 75 miles to the closest one now. I loved Garden Ridge and I miss it.
  9. It was there before I left town so that's been longer than 12 months. Yeah, time flies. I never went in that store. We go about once a week to the one down here. We love it.
  10. And more Walgreen's and CVS stores than you can shake a stick at! Geez.
  11. Yep. I've been hearing that BS a long, long time. Just like that Racetrac or Quik Trip that was going to be built at Oglesby and 278 in Powder Springs. Unless that's been built since July, it hasn't happened either. I'd heard about that before the Racetrac was built at Cleburne and 278. LONG before.
  12. I hope not. That's actually a pretty nice store. Gives a good balance with Kohl's and Target. Location sucks though. Nope, probably another sporting goods/outdoor store. There's only two there now, right? Why does Paulding need a convention center?
  13. My point is these are retailers and restaurants that HAD locations in Paulding but no longer do. So, not only are there no jobs in Paulding, there is no place for you to spend the money you get from the job you have in another county without going to another county to do it. I think the Pier 1 is still in Douglasville, isn't it? And every time I went in the Pier 1 in Hiram it was absolutely packed. I loved that place! I miss Rhodes Furniture the most of all of them. And again I ask, what NEW restaurant or retailer has opened in Paulding in the last six to 12 months?
  14. But those are not in Paulding. Shoneys does not have a location listed in Acworth. They do have one in Lithia Springs, which did close for a time a year or so back, and Cartersville but not Acworth. And I rarely ate out in Paulding when I lived up there. Oddly enough, I went to Paulding to shop but went to Douglas County to eat. No decent place to do either in Powder Springs. I see ads for places all the time here that you simply don't find in Paulding, Douglas or Cobb any longer. Retail and restaurants.
  15. It really sounded like a wonderful opportunity for you. So happy you made a decision! Now, go out there and kick ass.
  16. The reason they are full is two-fold. #1--there are no decent chain restaurants and #2--there have been some in the area (perhaps not necessarily Paulding) that have closed in the metro Atlanta area and there are fewer choices of somewhere to go when you want to go out. But that's the way it is everywhere, really. Ever see a Logan's Roadhouse now? Is Folks still open? How about Denny's? Seen one of them lately? Or a Shoney's? How about Sonnys? Last time I was by where they were located it was a Kauffmann Tire. And a lot of retailers in the west metro Atlanta left town as we
  17. Before I went to work in downtown Dallas in 1995 there was the rumor that Olive Garden and Lowe's were both being built where 278 and what is now Bill Carruth Parkway intersect. Both were to be opened within a year. To be fair, I haven't been by there since April but they weren't there then. I seriously doubt either are going to be there now. And it seems as though more places are closing in that area than opening so I doubt a big, decent chain restaurant will open in Paulding anytime in the foreseeable future. It's interesting how many retailers and restaurants we have in this area
  18. They stopped competing on tools and lawnmowers a long time ago. Harbor Freight beats anyone else's price on tools and Lowes carries the better brands of lawnmowers so why go to Sears for those. I got a very nice necklace chain from Penney's for my birthday. I don't care for their clothes nor do I care for Sears clothes though of the two Sears gets my vote for clothes. Yeah, I like "old people" clothes. I actually prefer Kmart for my everyday clothes like jeans, shorts and t-shirts. My dressier clothes came from Penney in Hiram. Got a great deal on them, too, so I stocked up. Mall
  19. "Often" you get no care but that is not always the case. Having health insurance is no guarantee that a doctor in your area will accept it. Case in point: my husband has Medicare. There is a hospital just slightly more than 1 mile from my house and doctors all in the area (you know how that works). There are 15 family practice doctors who practice at the hospital. Only two of them take Medicare patients. And they are 15 miles away. There are no doctors of some specialties in the area who accept Medicare. For that, we have to go into another county. This doesn't present a problem i
  20. Not from my standpoint. Previously I was only paying 20% of our income for insurance and only had to meet a $1500 deductible. Now I'm having to pay 25% of our income and having to meet a $6250 deductible before the insurance company pays the first time unless it's preventive. The only times I have been to the doctor in the past five years when it wasn't preventive or an annual check up has been to the doctor for my knee. I've paid more for that than my insurance company did, but at least they did pay something on it. Oh, and my insurance paid for the flu shot that would have cost me
  21. Yep. And I haven't had a child or grandchild in a Cobb County since 1999. But yet I paid taxes there and was fine with it. I don't have children or grandchildren in school here, yet. I think you should have to pay school tax until you draw Social Security. After that, you're not likely one to have a kid in school. My cousin didn't feel the same way and that is why he introduced the bill removing school taxes once you turn 62.
  22. Exactly. It sucks to have something promised and then that promise be broken. When I still had 3 kids at home I read a lot about child raising. Everything I read said "don't make a promise you can't keep". I've tried to do that, not just with my kids but with everyone. It's a shame our government can't do the same.
  23. We pay school taxes here. We also live in a good school district (among the top performers in the nation). We have good, decent home prices and sales are good. We have no problem with paying the tax. We would have qualified for an exemption on school taxes had we stayed in Cobb County because my husband turned 62 this past June. It wouldn't have taken effect until this year but we would have qualified for it.
