  1. Why write him? He can't make me qualify for something I don't qualify for. I wouldn't qualify for it ANYWAY even if the program had expanded. Besides, he didn't promise I would only have to pay no more than 8% of my income for health insurance. He is not the one who made the promise. I support the governors who opted not to expand the Medicaid program. 1000% I support them in that decision. I just want what was promised BY the president, TO the citizens. Nothing more, nothing less. Well, maybe dinner and a movie since I'm getting screwed.
  2. The thing that really gripes me about this is the fact that I, as a citizen of the US was PROMISED that I would not have to pay more than a certain percentage of my income for health insurance. We were PROMISED subsidies to help pay for health insurance if your income fell below a certain amount, something like $94,000 for a family of four. Well, we're a family of two and have an income of less than half of what the limit is for a family of two. I am not even asking for Medicaid (I'll apply just so I can have proof that I don't qualify). I am only asking for what was PROMISED to me as a ci
  3. I thought there was a limit to how many positives or negatives you could give in a 24 hour period. I'm thinking maybe 10 but I'm not sure. Maybe it's based on the level of membership. Hopefully a mod will come along and answer the question. It doesn't bother me one way or the other. If I run out of votes, I run out of votes.
  4. These people were actually decent people other than the back rent and damage they left behind. We treated them like family. They were living right around the corner but since their family was expanding, they needed more room. And their family expanded again, so they again needed more room. Wish they had paid the back rent but it wasn't worth pursuing. Ironically, the guy would stop by and talk to our daughter and son in law who moved in after they moved out. They weren't good friends but they were good acquaintances.
  5. Glad I can help you out there, TP. Now, my question is are you going to help me pay my utility bills or buy my groceries since I'm helping pay for your insurance? We live within our means. No satellite TV, no full cable package, no unlimited data on a monthly billed cell phone. Low cost paid for vehicles, basic auto insurance, minimal driving. Low cost house and it's not even insured so if a storm damages it or a fire destroys it, we're just SOL. We burn up in the summer and freeze in the winter in order to keep the power bill low and we use water sparingly. It's not like we're livin
  6. Health insurance and health care are not the same thing. One is a financial means for paying for the other. You can get plenty of health care if you have the money to pay for it, whether or not you have insurance. Doctors, hospitals, clinics, labs, etc want to know they will be paid for their services and I don't blame them a bit for refusing to see people who don't have insurance. But again, just because you have health insurance does not mean you will receive health care. And just because you don't have health insurance does not mean you won't receive health care. And not only that
  7. I totaled up what my insurance paid on claims and what I paid on claims last year. I didn't include the premiums. I paid more than twice as much as my insurance did. Not only that, one thing I was going to do was going to cost me MORE if I filed the insurance. I also didn't include that in my figures either. And this was a normal year. Most years we wouldn't meet a family deductible of $1500. It's rare either of us go to the doctor, basically when we're sick (like you can get my husband to go when he's sick). We've been covered by health insurance since 1991. Continuously insured e
  8. Who will pick up the difference in the cost? Those who don't get subsidies and the taxpayers. I'm with you. I don't believe health INSURANCE is a right and sure as heck don't believe it should be forced on a person. As I have said for a long, long time even years before the ACA was being discussed, there is a huge difference between having health INSURANCE and having health CARE and just because you have the insurance does not mean you'll have the care. I saw too many horror stories with insurance during my two decades in a doctor's office. Really? You can't afford to move som
  9. Yes, I did. I have insurance. Just have to call today to verify it and pay for it. It's reasonable in cost, even though I don't get a subsidy to help pay for it. I am actually surprised that it is less than $100 a month more than I was paying and other than the deductible, seems to be a better plan. I haven't established with many doctors as yet but the ones I do see accept it so I won't have to change yet again.
  10. We had tenants who moved out, leaving behind a horrible mess and two months back rent. We sent them a bill. They ignored it. It was going to be more of a hassle to take them to court to get it than it was worth to us so we just let it slide. Karma will take care of them.
  11. I voted for Clinton as well. First time he ran, not the second time. Interesting story on the Affordable Housing program, too. That began during Carter's administration. Along the way between the late 1970s and around 2006-2008 when the program really started to cause problems with so many foreclosures, both Republican presidents tried to bring it into a more reasonable program with more oversight and regulation. Turned out the banks and mortgage companies had pretty much bought off the regulators.
  12. So in other words because Republicans nixed what the Democrats wanted to do, even though the Democrats wanted to implement a "Republican" plan, we got something that is mean spirited, biased, a complete cluster **ck and not working? Hmmmm. Sounds about right. If you're a 2nd grader on the playground and someone hurts your feelings. That's why except for the fact that I wanted to vote in the primary and had to choose a party when I registered to vote, I would have chosen NO PARTY AFFILIATION when I registered. I say we throw every one of those SOBs out of office--Democrats, Republicans, Li
  13. See, that's why I don't understand them telling me I *could* qualify for it if I know good and well I don't qualify, even if I qualified based on income, which I don't. Their decision that I "could" qualify is totally pointless. Even Medicaid said I COULDN'T qualify. Apparently, if the health insurance market place says you "could" qualify for Medicaid, you don't get a subsidy. But it's impossible to tell since the letter I got doesn't say WHY I don't get one just that I don't. And the reps at the HIMP aren't any help. It's like an endless loop.
  14. That right there says it all, folks. Please, let's keep this topic non-political.
  15. I knew of a house in Cobb County that had a "for rent" sign out front. Someone told me they called the number and was told by the person answering the phone that they did not own the house but were renting it out "for" the owner. Turned out the owner didn't have a clue that it was happening. They actually did that TWICE. I think finally the owner wised up and put a stop to it. Somehow the person got a key and was able to show the house to prospective tenants. The prospective tenants were as clueless as the homeowner was. It was a rental property. The person trying to rent it out was no
  16. Not sure how you would go about forgoing Social Security. Oh, and this year it will be probably $250 over since he got a small raise in his benefit.
  17. When TP stops posting charts that have nothing to do with the topic.
  18. Which is why insurance company stocks have done so well the last year or so and why they are forecast to do well in the coming years. And also why they were the largest lobby during the time the ACA was being discussed and voted on.
  19. Believe me, I did the math. Between the deductible and the premiums, it will be just under 12k for the year. On 22k household income. My two best options are to have the surgery early in the summer and go back to work late summer or early fall OR to file for Social Security disability so I'll be able to pay for the insurance.
  20. Congress voted on it. IMO, that means they voted as representatives of the voters. Obviously, this is not the case here. They voted for the insurance companies, who pay them huge money to pass this debacle. And PLEASE don't make this thread about politics. That is not my intent. My intent was to share that I have at last signed up for insurance and have been royally screwed in the process. I'm not in this boat by myself. You know the old saying. If the shoe fits, wear it.
  21. My guess is your friend's $24,000 a year income is taxable. Mine will be $467 a month, $6250 deductible. I have to pay the deductible before the insurance pays ANYTHING except for preventive visits. I HAVE to have lab work twice a year, a mammogram and abdominal ultrasound once a year. With the pre-op tests that will be needed prior to knee surgery, like an MRI or CT scan, I'll get that deductible paid pretty quickly. That's the GOOD thing about this.
  22. Not sure if you understand what I said. My application has already been processed. In fact, it was processed back around Thanksgiving. I'm not trying to apply. I've already applied, the determination has been made that I don't qualify for a subsidy and I have purchased insurance. There's no need to go sit down with someone to help me with this. If the people at the health insurance market place don't have a clue why I don't get the subsidy, just that I don't, I doubt the Social Worker or whoever it is at the local hospital will be able to help either. There are 46 application "assist
  23. Seems like finally Florida got their server error fixed and I was able to do the "am I eligible" and get to the end. And I got this: Medical Assistance Based on what you told us, it looks like someone in your household may not be able to get low or no-cost health care through a medical assistance program such as Medicaid and CHIP. But are they talking about me or my hubby? Good question. It does not say.
  24. And forget about qualifying for Medicaid if your only source of income is SSDI. That's still too much if you had a decent paying job while you worked. I agree. That's too much because it is 18 times what was promised. But all in all, it is something I can afford, my doctors are on the plan (so I don't have to drive 25 miles to see one) and once I pay the deductible, things will be paid by the insurance. Meeting the deductible if I have knee surgery won't be a problem. In fact, that will be a piece of cake. Just the pre-op testing and visits will take care of most, if not all, of that
  25. Hey, don't apologize for the rant. You said everything I had been thinking! I wish I could give you a 1000 plus marks on it! Maybe the reason I don't qualify for the subsidy has nothing to do with the "could" qualify for Medicaid. I still think it has something to do with taxable and non-taxable income. I'm just hoping that a year from now when I do our return we get a refund.
