It's common courtesy for naturists to carry a towel or something. But pass a law????? Really? Sounds like a few of them need to read Naturist 101.

Do you ever smell cigarette smoke in your house..........
Mama Carol replied to Mrs G's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Funny you said this. My daughter said there was a place where a florist used to be (pre-Austell flood) and whenever she walked by she could smell carnations. This happened as recently as this summer, almost two years after the building was destroyed by the flood. -

I occasionally will smell cigarette smoke in the house. Usually when the wind is coming from the east, which coincidentally is the same direction as my neighbor's house. They sit in their sunroom and smoke. I can tell when my husband has been around someone who smokes. I am very, VERY sensitive to smoke of any kind, particularly cigarette smoke. I can also smell it on me when I've been around someone who smokes. -
My good news is: 1) daughter and son in law got their car back FINALLY, so I don't have to take her places like the grocery store now. :yahoo: 2) my business continues to grow, with new clients set to come on, one a month for the NEXT THREE MONTHS. :yahoo: 3) one of my clients informed me today they are moving to a new location, which is closer to my house (by a couple of miles). :yahoo: :drinks: :good: 4) my husband has finally agreed to let me get a bike so I can s

It's tough enough to be a stepparent. Since you aren't really his stepparent, since he is your "boyfriend's" son, you might have an extra tough row to hoe. Unless the son is on board, it really won't matter if the dad is or not. Make sure the son is willing to listen to you. At 18, he obviously doesn't have to. Good luck and keep us updated.

Did you get the membership yet? I told Pubby you wanted one and he cleaned out his PM box, too.

Click above on "store" and follow the instructions. Or call the office after about 10:30. Or call LPPT. I'll let Pubby know you want a commerce membership.

Even my liberal daughter got the connection between the lesson and school uniforms.
-
Nope, they are in there. Just got finished looking.

Marc, I gave him Lisa's number because I couldn't find yours. It's in my old phone. How you doing? Hope to see you around the 6th when I come to Rockmart. -
Have you seen school uniforms? And yes, where they are being used, they are supposed to be worn by all (except teachers and administrators). I've seen the kids on my street wearing their uniforms--beige pants, dark colored polo shirts. My 11 year old granddaughter is required to wear a school uniform. She was not happy about that either. Dang non-conformist. That's my granddaughter, all right. so it wasn't just me who saw it that way. Whew!! I was beginning to think it was just me.

You are so right!!

I think you hit the nail on the head there.

The rise of anti-Muslim sentiment in America has brought with it a wave of largely-unsubstantiated suggestions from conservative media commentators and politicians that America is at risk of falling under the sway of Sharia law. First, a definition: Sharia law is strict Islamic law. It is designed to guide devout Muslims in their personal and professional dealings. this came from here: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20019405-503544.html and this: Sneaky Muslims aren’t going to impose Sharia Law on the US and take away their bacon cheeseburgers. It’s impossible. fro

I don't get that either. I do believe that we, as humans, are generally afraid of what we don't know. I also believe that we, as Americans, fear the Muslims when as someone pointed out earlier it was insane, whack jobs who have hurt our country in the name of Islam. They could have just as easily done it in the name of Christianity, Catholicism, Judaism or agnosticism. But why does a discussion of the laws followed in the Middle East have to include Islam, the religion, when discussions about the laws in the US don't have to include Christianity?

sounds like Pubby and I both get it. I knew I liked him for some reason.

If you take the religious view out of it, there really is a lot of correlation between the two. But you have to view it without any religious slant whatsoever. I personally think using a Marine, or a soldier, talking about their uniform would have been better but I do get the comparison between the Muslim woman and school uniforms. Then again, I don't hate any particular religion. I dislike most of them equally. I also have to keep in mind that OUR views are not necessarily shared by those who have a different religion, a different culture or a different nationality. If the l

I always had difficulty understanding symbolism in literature class. I had no difficulty understanding the correlation between the letter from a Muslim woman and school uniforms. Maybe **I** am the only one who understood that. And once again, if you start teaching on Muslim culture, it leaves things wide open to discuss other cultures, many of which I'm sure administrators in Cobb would rather not touch. Anyone who thinks the teacher taught this without the knowledge of administrators doesn't know Cobb schools. More administrators and lesson planners and teacher teachers than c

Am I the only one who understood the lesson had absolutely nothing to do with teaching Muslim culture?

I found this in the Cobb County School District rules to be interesting: LESSON PLANS: The process of lesson planning is acknowledged by the District as an essential prerequisite for the provision of the program of instruction required to assist students to achieve the Georgia Performance Standards. Lesson plans, which are defined as the individual school’s plan for teaching the Georgia Performance Standards at each grade level and in each content area, are hereby established as a primary responsibility of school administration to be developed with the involvement of all instructional per

Spunky, PM me anytime you need to bend an ear. I've been in a place where the only help that got through to me was my online friends. They got me through the worst period of my entire life. And I've yet to meet a single one of them in person. I still consider every one of them "friends". You're right about the people on Pcom. We might bicker and fuss and call each other names sometimes, but I don't know of any group who would stand closer to someone in need. Ah, geez, I gotta stop this before I start crying. And :yahoo: you're feeling better.
-
Hmmmm. I'm quite sure that NONE of the lesson was meant to convey "bad" things about the religion. Imagine how upset parents would get if bad things were said about Christian dominations during class. I can just see it now: teacher assigns something on the Catholic church and then has to counter that with the child molestation scandal. Nope, can't teach the bad of any of these in class without teaching the bad of ALL religions.

One thing that we as Americans seem to fail to understand is that our way of life might not be what someone else, from another country, another culture or another religion, feels is acceptable. We may feel that the way (we believe) Muslim women are treated is wrong but they in turn may feel that the way the rest of the world treats women is just as wrong. We're each entitled to our beliefs. When I think of a Muslim woman, I think of Benazir Bhutto. This woman was a Muslim and led a Muslim nation. I hardly believe she become a leader while the majority of her countrymen thought of her
