  1. I am a huge Skynyrd fan. Surprised me the other day when I realized I only had one of their albums. My neighbor and I took our daughters to see Travis Tritt, Skynyrd, and Charlie Daniels in concert about 20 years ago. My neighbor couldn't believe that I knew all of the songs that Skynyrd did. Free Bird!!
  2. Close enough. Actually closer to Eglin as part of it is in eastern Santa Rosa County and we're in central Santa Rosa. When they shoot the big guns at Eglin we can feel the concussion and sometimes hear it.
  3. Interesting. I live east of Pensacola. We had two booms today.
  4. What I learned growing up was only the bride wore white so anything was fine for others. My former boss' son got married over the weekend. My former boss and his wife coordinated their clothing. His tie was the same color as her dress. Looked fantastic! My best friend got married just before Halloween. Some people wore black, some wore orange. I think I wore a black flowered dress.
  5. This sounds exactly like what happened to a friend of mine. She thought she was getting a free trial of something and had almost $200 being taken out of her checking account without her knowledge. She ended up having to get a new checking account because the bank (actually a credit union) didn't know any way to stop the THIEF from taking the money. What she got was supposed to be something from someone on HGTV (I think).
  6. I kept an eye on her as well. My brother is in Sanford and my nephew in Longwood so I was quite concerned about the path Irma was going to take. Glad you and the Mrs are doing fine.
  7. I was concerned about you as well. Glad to hear you did OK down there. BTW, we have had worse thunderstorms than what we got from Irma. We're good with that though.

I definitely don't want to see it go over open waters in the Gulf. Not unless it changes course drastically to the west. And I mean makes a 90 degree turn to the west. The bad thing about this storm that we might have to deal with personally is my daughter potentially can lose two houses to it--one in Navarre, FL and the other in Manchester, GA. The good thing about both houses is they have been through a number of storms already. The one in Navarre went through Opal, Ivan, Dennis and the effects of Katrina, Wilma and Rita. Don't know how much damage it received because she has only
  9. There's one in Newnan, too. A few in southern Alabama and northern Florida as well.
  10. My first legal drink (and first drink of alcohol period) was in 1974 at the American Legion in Smyrna. It was a Marietta Cobb Vo-Tech Christmas party. I well remember when if you wanted alcohol in Cobb County at all you had to go to the river, to the VFW off Fulton Industrial, to Lost Mountain Store or to Moody's on Macland. I'm sure east Cobb had their places.
  11. LOL. Well, it was a long, long time ago. It was really different on FIB back then. Might have been the Buckboard. I can't remember. It was probably 1974 or 1975.
  12. There was a place at Windy Hill and Cobb Parkway that was a nice little bar. I can't remember the name of it since I only went there once. In the shopping center were Medix used to be. Now to really show my age, who remembers Sugar Shack on Cobb Parkway (known at that time as "The 4 Lane")? It closed long before I began legal drinking age. In fact, I think it closed when I was still in elementary school.
  13. I can't think about WT Grant's without laughing. My dad had a pick up truck with a camper shell on the back and two really wide mirrors. I was pulling into the service bay at Grant's and caught one of the mirrors on the side of the bay. Pulled out, straightened up and darn if I didn't catch the other mirror. I finally got out of the truck, told my dad HE needed to pull the truck in and I went inside. LOL How about Dunaways? They had a fantastic lunch counter. When I worked in Marietta across from Kennestone I went to Dunaways almost every day to get a hamburger for lunch. Yum, yu

There's a place we love to eat, over in Pensacola. They have a hurricane evacuation plan posted. 1. Grab a beer 2. Run like hell. That's my plan.

We have a saying around here. You really do NOT want to see Jim Cantore show up. That means the feces is about to hit the Westinghouse. BTW, now have TD #13 to deal with. It's moving east in the lower part of the Gulf. Forecast for it is to go toward New Orleans. Looks like we will get something from some storm.
  16. I highly, highly recommend Jason Vaughn. He's on 92 at East Paulding.

We are leaving and heading to Atlanta if necessary. I told my husband when we decided to buy a house here that I'd stay for tropical storms and Cat 1 and low Cat 2 hurricane but anything stronger than that, I was leaving. My friend here in the subdivision and I decided we would go whether or not our husband's did (and both of them said they would stay). But now, without the neighbors here, we have given reconsideration to both of us leaving when a hurricane comes our way. No possibility of flooding (if we do you can forget Pensacola continuing to exist as we are considerably higher th

Yep, that is one reason for the strength of Harvey. The warm waters have really caused the storms to be strong. We had a very mild winter along the Gulf Coast, which I would guess has led to the warmer waters this summer. Sure hasn't been the extreme heat causing it. The summer has been relatively mild. I sure hope Irma turns north before she gets to Cuba. Maybe northeast would be better. Anywhere but the top of the Gulf Coast (or Texas). If it comes this way, I'll be posting to Pcom from P'county! I wouldn't wish what has happened with Harvey on anyone. We got a lot of rain
  20. Yep, it was in front of The Miracle, near Zayre. I worked with the nicest man who was the usher. I was 19, I think and it seemed like he was 100. He probably wasn't more than 55 or 60 though. Very nice "elderly" guy. Best memory I have of working there was spending time with him. He was like the grandfather I never had.
  21. My mom was the kitchen manager there at one time. I never ate there but spent a lot of time with her at work. Made some good friends there. A lot of the people who worked in the kitchen brought their kids to work with them during the day and we kids helped out where we could. We shucked corn, shelled peas and just in general had a good time. Made for easy friendships when we got back to school in the fall. That's where I saw it, too. I saw "Dr Zhivago" and "Gone With The Wind" at Belmont. I saw "Love Story" at Cobb Cinema (I was an employee at the time). Even though I worked
