I need some help getting some mail stopped. Not the usual junk mail though I guess in a way it is. It's a bank statement from GEMC Credit Union. We closed the accounts in October 2013, when we sold the house and no longer were eligible to be members. They sent a check for the balances. And each and every month since October 2013, they have sent a statement that shows the grand total of ONE PENNY balance. Before anyone says "call them and ask them to stop sending them", I have. Twice! I've been told both times that the accounts are closed and show zero balances. Both times I was tol

Boston butt on the grill with three kinds of barbecue sauce on the side and buns or loaf bread, slaw, deviled eggs and then banana pudding for dessert. A couple of glasses of moscato for the ladies and beer for the gents. The egg tree was it. No kids here. We got a plant for the yard last week. It's a 10 foot sabal palm.

I remember the day well. Prayers for everyone involved.

You would probably find alot more (interesting) stuff if you walked along the road. My son in law used to walk on 278 between Humphries Hill and Florence. He said he found all kinds of things along the road. Reunited a few people with lost belongings, too. Some things he had to just shake his head about. He said the #1 thing he found was.............................. Bibles.

Congratulations Guard Dad!! If you're like me, you wonder why you didn't have grandkids first. They are certainly more fun than kids. -
And please don't buy your kids bunnies or chicks for Easter either without realizing that these will grow up to be prolific rabbits and possibly very mean roosters. Don't learn this lesson the hard way like I did.

I agree with Guard Dad. You can't make this stuff up. What HAS that person been smoking??????? -
No, I didn't. We have a very small lot and are still in the process of making flower beds. I want some to put in the bed under my palm trees. I may get some to plant this fall. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do the fall of 2013, and couldn't do much because of knee pain. Then last fall I couldn't do anything because of surgery. After the 8 gladiolus bulbs I planted years ago and the thousands we dug up, put Roundup on, pulled up, burned and still couldn't get rid of them, I'm pretty careful about bulbs. I want azaleas everywhere but my husband has said no to more than a couple of

We were at Lowe's the other day and they had some King Alfred jonquils. I swear they were the size of saucers! They were huge! They stood about 3 feet tall, too. Biggest dang "daffodils" of any kind that I'd ever seen. But then again, we have azaleas here that are as high as the rooftops. Must be something about this sandy soil that some flowering plants love. LR, I love the multiple petal flower in that bunch. That's beautiful. Looks a lot like a peony.

Thank goodness there were no camera phones around when we got that deer in the backseat of our car.

Regarding the topic of Global Climate Change
Mama Carol replied to marvinthemartian's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Studies are quite often corrupted depending on who is doing the funding. Scientists are not immune to this corruption. Climate change is a fact. But the climate has changed throughout history. If that were not true, we would still be having an ice age. Does man have an impact on it? Probably. Does the fact that the earth is constantly changing have an impact on it? Probably more so. -
What is a jonquil? In some parts of the country any yellow daffodil is called a jonquil, usually incorrectly. As a rule, but not always, jonquil species and hybrids are characterized by several yellow flowers, strong scent, and rounded foliage. The hybrids are confined to Division 7 and the term “jonquil” should be applied only to daffodils in Division 7 or species in Division 13 known to belong to the jonquil group.

So why is, or was, the space agency investigating weather and climate change? -
I know my dad and his side of the family spoke highly of the Rice's. I still have coins my dad's dad had. My grandfather died in 1953, so the coins are pretty old. I have no idea how old. Not positive where they are but I know I brought them when I moved. Do you remember the jonquils in the field behind what became the funeral home before Bill and Juanita bought the property?

The top one is a jonquil. The bottom is a daisy. I know my jonquils. The leaves are different on jonquils and daffodils. Jonquils have leaves that are more like drinking straws, while daffodil leaves are flat. They are in the same family but still different. No, he didn't. I think my grandparents bought their farmland from the Rice family. It was out in the country. On Old Concord Road. Back in 1917 that WAS out in the country!

Regarding the topic of Global Climate Change

After this past winter, I'm thinking those people in the northeast, particularly the Boston area, might be a difficult sell if you're trying to sell the global warming theory. Climate change is a fact. Global warming, not so much. "New" ice age, not so much. -

I remember all that hype about the global cooling trend, too. I didn't remember when it was exactly but thought it was during my high school years. I remember the fear of a new ice age occurring. Then again, I remember hearing that the world was going to end when I was in something like the 7th grade. Then again when I was in the 10th. Again in the 12th and several times since that.
