  1. I think everyone is expecting a civil suit from the Ward family against Tony, regardless of any criminal conviction. My question is, for anyone out there with some expertise on the subject is.....assuming that Kevin Ward, who was over the age of 18 (he was 20) signed a waiver before the race, would that negate or lessen any civil "wrongful death" or "negligence" claims against Stewart, or the race track itself? Not that I believe Tony or the race track is at fault in any way here, but I'm not a lawyer, racer, or race track owner.
  2. Pass the buck and bypass the blame. The sheriff's election is Nov 4, 2014. The DA was elected to a 4yr term in Nov 2013, but has held the job for many years. He's thinking about Nov 2017. The sheriff is Rep, the DA is a Dem, but they have to work cooperatively for either of them to appear successful in their respective jobs to their voting public. Neither of them want to lose votes, no matter which way this case goes. They don't care that an innocent man's future is at stake. This whole thing should have ended with the sheriff's office. I'm sorry that young man lost his life. But first and
  3. We used to have those health insurance screenings at work too. One year the Health Police who came did the BMI tests on everybody, and there were at least 3 women there, none more than a size 8 (one was maybe a size 6, she was so petite) who were told they were overweight. We all just ranted about it. I've always been small and frequently medically underweight (I'm only 98 lbs now and hate it). The one year I was a size 10 (5'3" tall and weighed 132lbs) I got told I needed to lose weight. I didn't look fat. Hell, I looked normal and healthy for the first time in years.
  4. Welp....this started out as a nice thread, anyway.
  5. I get emails from classmates.com all the time. I joined years ago but never did the paid membership when Facebook is free. I found one guy I almost married years ago....the Italian Stallion from back then looks like Chef Boyardee now. As far as old high school classmates, I've reunited with several on Facebook. What's funny to me is how many of those pot-smoking, beer-chugging teenagers I hung out with have since got religion and now wouldn't dare admit to any of the fun we had back then. Their kids and grandkids might read about it! And on Facebook I found out that no less than 5 of
  6. Add early stages of Parkinson's Disease to the mix. His widow just made a statement: http://www.11alive.com/story/news/nation-now/2014/08/14/robin-williams-was-battling-parkinsons-disease/14063519/
  7. Lauren Bacall was always so beautiful and so classy. So many of our modern-day actresses could learn a lot of lessons from her. Rest in Peace.
  8. I don't know if many people remember this, but Robin's hero and mentor Jonathan Winters also suffered from severe depression, and was hospitalized at least once for it. Such a sad thing for Robin and his family. His combination of depression, substance addictions, and the depression that often comes after heart surgery was just too much, I guess. I have dealt with medical depression ("chronic recurrent") and anxiety since childhood. It doesn't just manifest itself in behavior or thought symptoms, it is also has physical symptoms. It's hard to explain or understand unless you also suffer fr
  9. This is a screenshot from a public facebook post made by a crew member of the first car (#45) that had to avoid Kevin Ward on the the track. Sorry it's so big, I couldn't get photobucket to resize it correctly.
  10. Leaking fuel or a fire probably would have caused the officials to throw a red flag to stop all traffic immediately instead of a yellow. In any case, the young man could have shown his displeasure with Tony while standing at the fence where his wrecked car sat. For whatever reason, he decided to go angrily walking down the track, knowing there were moving vehicles that would have to make evasive measures to avoid him. He wasn't thinking, whether that be from immaturity or machismo or just the heat of the moment. He walked toward Tony's car, he was intent on a confrontation or at least a chance
  11. All things being relative, if I were a race mom or wife, I'd much rather my racing loved one stuck to some type of stock car. One of my Canadian friends has a 17 yr old son who races modifieds up there. The kid wants to race sprint cars but his dad is trying to really discourage him from that because of the safety issues.
  12. From what my friends who are involved in racing explained to me was, these sprint cars are not like regular race cars. The right rear tire is larger than the left, and there is no clutch or starter. In order to make the sprint car turn left, you have to accelerate. It's not a matter of simply turning the wheel like a regular car or race car. What results is the rear end of the car fishtailing. This guy Ward was walking down the track with cars (while slowed due to the caution) coming his way. One car was able to take evasive measures and avoid hitting him. Ward kept walking down the track and
  13. I have several friends who are involved in racing we've been trying to analyze what happened. The way they explained it to me, with the sprint car, because the right rear tire is larger than the left, and there's no clutch so you don't race it like a normal race car. To make a sprint car go to the left, you have to accelerate but as a result, the rear of the car will fishtail. It looks like to me that Tony may have been trying to move to the left to avoid hitting the young man and there was enough movement of the back of Tony's car to accidentally catch Ward. Ward appeared to me to be approach
  14. I don't check the Rest in Peace forum very often, so I missed the news. I am so sorry to hear of her passing.
  15. Maybe one of those planes will drop their lavatory load right over her house.
  16. I had to dig way down to find it, but it still has the exception for those of us who have signed contracts with other trash collection companies. I raised holy hell to the Hiram govt for this crap. They're just trying to make a buck off residents by using a trash collection company that is not even locally based. I use a local trash company and I wish I were allowed now to extend my contract even further. Apparently the good old boys and girls in the Hiram govt have something in that ordinance to prevent me from making my own choice to use a local, family-owned company when that contract expi
  17. That is frightening, and exactly why I never go there. I remember when that poor woman was murdered there a few years ago. So sad.
  18. Of course Gators & Crocodiles look the same to me. Well, what do ya expect? I'm a Bulldog fan.
  19. I weigh 98 lbs on a Fat Day. I'll eat anybody's portion who's on a diet. It's my duty as a good citizen.
  20. Get me a Krispy Kreme and a Costco in Paulding County, and I would be ecstatic.
  21. Murphy's Romance was another one of my favorites from Garner. And I loved him in Rockford Files too...really he was so good at comedy or drama. Garner was a man's man...very sexy too. Of course, race fans consider his role in 1966's Grand Prix to be classic. He did all his own stunts and racing scenes (unlike the other actors) and was considered someone with some legit racing skills. The live Formula One German Grand Prix broadcast going on right now just gave Garner a mention. He was much loved and respected among race fans and racers.
  22. I saw that the other day on facebook. So sad and so sweet and I just came totally unglued after reading it.
