  2. This is a copy & paste of the email I got from our HOA, so hopefully it will answer your questions. Greystone of Paulding HOA: As many of you are aware, early this morning several families in the community suffered house fires on Rosemont Court. We were informed that everyone made it out safety. The association is partnering with the City of Hiram, and American Red Cross to collect items for these families as they lost everything in this mornings fire. The HOA has purchased some items today and has taken to two of the families staying in local hotels. We have spoken with several of th
  3. I found out this morning that this same woman...who took her own cat, her father's urn and some important papers with her before she left the burning house....had dumped her ex-husband's fully declawed, defenseless cat outside in the summer of 2016. She hated the cat because it belonged to her ex-husband. The cat eventually made it's way to my end of the street to look for food and a home. He made it to my house and now he's microchipped and mine. I was shocked, I thought another family who had moved were the ones who abandoned him.
  4. I live on the other end of Rosemont Court in that subdivision. The families got out but 2 dogs were killed in one of the homes. It is just awful. My prayers go out to all of the families.
  5. What I don't understand is why she wasn't tried as an adult. She was only 3 weeks away from her 18th birthday when the suicide happened. I am disgusted that she not only got a light sentence, but that she's walking around free right now while her lawyer tries for an appeal. My heart breaks for that boy's family.
  6. I told him that I've never been so glad to give somebody my money in my life.
  7. Pates just left here and y'all were right, it was the lid switch (which he repaired) and it was quick and financially painless. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU EVERYBODY WHO TOLD ME TO CALL PATES!!!! :) :)
  8. Yeah, that's way over my pitiful budget. It's just me, and my clothes don't get that dirty really unless cat hair counts.
  9. I have heard those are very good. Who sells them or are they just an online buy now?
  10. Oh I know, my family used to have a washer/dryer set that lasted that long. Broke our hearts when they died. I used to have an old Magnavox TV that lasted 20 years. They don't make anything like they used to, for sure. Yes, I did, thank you. I'm looking at both Sears and Home Depot online right now. So glad I was able to at least get some clean underwear done on Saturday before this morning's domestic disaster.
  11. Well, crud. I really hate driving all over the place and I'm not comfortable making major purchases online. Thanks for letting me know.
  12. Is that little Sears appliance store where Walmart in Hiram is closed? I haven't been there in a couple of years and I have no idea if it's still open for business.
  13. I'm suspecting something in the motor because it's been sounding a bit strained when it ran, but since it's old I didn't give it much thought. I'm leaning toward biting the bullet and getting a new one. Definitely not anything without an agitator or HE, people either love or hate them and there's no middle ground.
  14. I tried that and nothing. There's no power to the machine at all. Any suggestions for a new one, if I have to go that route? Are the ones with no middle agitator all those HE machines? It will need to be a top loader, whatever I get. It's just me & the cats, but I do at least 4 loads a week, sometimes 5.
  15. I will give Pate's a call in a bit. Given the machine's age, and thinking back on it sounded a little strained when running lately, I'm guessing a new one is in order. I hate it but 13 years for washer is a lot of years.
  16. My 2004 Kenmore top load (with agitator) washing machine just suddenly died. I had a load of towels in it. Water filled and it usually stops for a minute or two before it starts agitating to wash. No power. I tried the outlet (works) and the circuit breaker (works also) and I'm at a loss. I've never had any noticeable problems with it before. I called Sears, and the very nice lady gave me a repairman appointment, but it's not until Aug 7 (next Monday) and it's $89 bucks just for someone to check it. Any ideas on why a washer would just stop dead? The knob seems to work fine, lid seems fine
  17. I was there around 1pm today and just watched it circle but I couldn't tell what kind of helicopter it was, military or whatever. I'm curious too. Looking for a parking space, maybe? Walmart was pretty busy today.
  18. My biggest co-worker pet peeve was Cubicle Karaoke. These women who would wear their earbuds/headphones and sing along to the music they were listening to. You couldn't hear their music, but you could hear them singing along, and usually very badly.
  19. I have 3 now (recently took in a fully declawed cat whose previous owners dumped him outside when they moved and never came back.) All three are total indoor cats and two of them (who started life as outdoor cats before I adopted them) love to hunt in the house. Instead of rodents or bugs (thankfully) they will drop one of their soft toys at my feet after bellowing that they caught something. The third cat can't be arsed to hunt for anything unless it's a dropped snack.
  20. Bless his heart and his human family. Rest in Peace, Hondo.
  21. I grew up in Wilmington. Loved that city but haven't been there since graduating UNCW in 1983. I've heard from friends and family that it has really changed and become an expensive place to live now.
  22. I watched the awards Saturday night and just wanted to say that Big Boss Man's wife & daughters did such a great job with their acceptance speeches. It was really touching and I'm so glad for them that their dad and husband is being remembered this way. I don't know any of the family personally, but they seem like really good people.
