  1. I also went with low expectations and walked out with a whole new respect for Jackie Chan -- I also loved how they showed how Kung Fu is an artform rather than the chop-chop beat em up stuff. The fight scenes were very realistic and harsher than the original. I LOVED this movie and haven't been to a movie where everyone clapped at the end in a very long time!
  2. This is very good advice -- been to Disney many, many times and this way is the most enjoyable -- the parade starts at 2 or 3 in the afternoon -- good time to leave actually...go back to the hotel, swim, nap, eat and come back for the Night Parade and Fireworks (MUCH better than afternoon parade!)
  3. We did this for my son's 10th birthday this past April. Make sure to stop in at City Hall (where you rent strollers) and tell them your son is celebrating his birthday. They will give him a special "It's My Birthday!" Button for free. You will see LOTS of people wearing these buttons, as well as other celbrations such as Anniversaries, 1st visit and Just Married. They are nice souveniers and you will be AMAZAED how many Disney Cast Members tell him Happy Birthday -- It even got us to the head of the line on a ride! My son definately felt special! Other than that, relax, go slow -- you wil
  4. Sorry, but when a post includes a disclaimer on where to file a complaint, you have to expect strong feelings.
  5. Last year's link:http://paulding.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=212350&view=&hl=Free lunch&fromsearch=1 It may have been hard to find because they didn't call it "Summer Feeding Program", it was just called "Free Lunch".
  6. Perhaps a reason for ill-will towards this government funded program is that they cut 300+ jobs this year!! The "ones who need it: can apply for several different meal, food stamp, WIC, programs that already exist! -- The BOE (Board of Education) is responsible for education. Many, Many people lost their jobs last week, just sayin!
  7. THANK YOU -- Where were you last year when I was posting this same lament (little did I know what was about to happen to many jobs!) To the OP: Just curious since you indicate this is your first year with the program, did someone ask you to post this PSA? Last year's PSA was so similar it's eerie.
  8. Perhaps we can all agree on one line of the OP: "Come by and see what your missing!!!!!!!" Last year, the workers who were being paid were actually posting saying "this program is IN DANGER of closing down due to low attendance!!!" They were promoting to local day cares and summer camps to bus the kids over to "enjoy this free lunch"!! Look, if a child is truly in need of food, food stamps, WIC and other programs are in place for a reason...but "Come one come all and see what your missing!!" is a gross abuse of government funding, funding that was cut when it comes to your childrens educ
  9. Mine was out on one TV this morning -- I called and there is a recorded message that says to unplug for 15 seconds, then unplug again for 15 seconds (twice in 30 seconds). I did this and it rebooted it with an upgrade message, but then froze up again. I tried the unplug, unplug this again and it has been working fine since then!
  10. LOVE Big Pie In the Sky!!! It's off Giles Rd. I beleive. It was featured on the TV show Man vs. Food also! Good tip about calling ahead -- they need to get a bigger place in my opinion!! Even a hint that we could go there and my kids go nuts!
  11. Again, back to my point...so sad that the teachers had to take time out of their day to stuff the kids' folders with extra stuff that in no way benefits them -- AND THEY ARE EXPECTED TO SHOW UP -- even if they live a county away!!! To raise money for what exactly....
  12. Just curious....since you are the teacher -- what is the difference between a regular para and a ESEP para == answer: nothing!
  13. I hate that it done by seniority though -- some GREAT para's will suffer...if people ONLY knew!!!
  14. As I was reminded in paperwork that came home with my child today (no mention on budget cuts of course)..."SPRING FLING" is coming up....donate your store bought cakes, pre-pay for tickets... we need to lead by example folks -- if times are truly this tough, this kind of thing needs to be one of the first things cut back -- I realize that PTA is responsible for this, but we really need to look at what we are teaching our kids --- excess!! They already get end of year parties, CRCT celebrations, field day, graduation parties, etc. This just seems like such a slap in the face when our jobs ar
  15. Sorry to assume -- when I brought this up to our PTA Prez -- she said "Spring Fling" is really not a money maker, that they basically break even -- I guess that's where I got upset to think we should all be celebrating when that facts are not so...best to lead by example I feel -- the kids ALL get an end of the year party, field day, graduations, etc. I just thought it would be a good example to show the kids how to save on the extravagance...love your Heston quote btw!
  16. OK, just re-read your post and think you mean you donate directly to the teacher...if so, Thank You and sorry for the "side-eye" icon!
  17. And you're OK with that...PTA keeping the money that is??? Would love to hear the logic on that...
  18. After all this... child comes home today with a flyer for "Spring Fling" this Friday -- they need cake donations (store bought - $5.99 at least)!!! $10 entry fees, etc.(Last year, family of four cost almost $50!!! before we even ATE!!) Now, I realize this a PTA function and I'm sure they are spending this money well, but WHERE ARE OUR PRIORITIES????? PTA's need to come together and explain to the children that cutting costs are necessary, perhaps they could pool their monies together and buy their teacher some paper!!
  19. SSShhhhhhhh......best kept secret in town; it's getting hard enough to get a spot up there anymore!!
  20. I live in the same vicinity and mine was broken (kicked?) off also. Ours happened on St. Patty's night. They got several in our neighborhood also -- hopefully, they are learning a very important lesson about karma pretty soon. Losers!!!
  21. The name of the restaurant is Denny's Burgers -- went there based on a previous poster's comments about it being good -- It was yummy!! (It is located where a short-lived mexican restaurant was a few months ago) Ordered just a regular burger and it is huge!! I like the BBQ sauce that it is served with and it was cooked perfect. The baked beans were very, very good even if the portion was giant! I will go again, they have some pretty good looking specialty burgers. Hope they can make it through the next few months (it was 1/3 full at lunch) Less staff would save $$!
  22. Almost forgot about the summercamp -- BEST around!!
  23. I think waiting until the beginning of the school year is best -- this is the time of the year when each scout is earning/promoted to new ranks, awards, etc. and it may seem overwhelming to a new scout. Plus, baseball is pretty all consuming this time of year. Scouting can be as much fun as the leaders make it -- one thing I learned is that it takes everyone to make a great program. The same 2-3 volunteers get tired running everything all year and parent involvement can make a HUGE difference!
  24. We went to Myrtle Beach last summer mainly because I saw it advertised as the "best family vacation" in some magazine. The beach is wonderful, rentals are plentiful, restaurants were great and there were lots of amusement park style places, however -- the "main street" in town was loaded with "adult" stores, and they were kind of raunchy! To each their own, but these places had HUGE signs advertising that left us with uncomfortable explaining to do to "new readers"!!! LOL!!
  25. This is a sad thing for sure -- There better not be survellience (sp?) video on this!! She had so much experience with these animals, wonder what some of the warning signs were!
